If you’re at Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, then you must sure visit this Vegetarian Café! This is a great place to hangout for a hot cup of coffee/tea as it’s set in the hilly area, makes a perfect reason to stop by just to warm up after a peaceful darshan at the temple. It’s small, simple yet cozy and a beautiful place, located to the right as you get down the temple steps, next to the community center. It’s clearly not a commercial dining destination and please don’t expect to get your tummy full when you come here. It’s helpful to grab instant refreshments only. There are very few seats inside and the outdoor ones are spacious enough to accommodate fewer groups. If you can’t find good seats at all, take a brief stroll to the right of Café, there you see some benches, sit and enjoy every sip of your drink/every bite of your snack, while also catching some excellent overlooking views of the scenic Monterey Bay Coast. Favorite picks so far, ~ Flavorful and refreshingly soothing Hot Tea, ‘House made Masala Chai’ — comes in 3 portion sizes, 8 oz($ 2.50) 12 oz($ 3.00) 16 oz($ 3.75). ~ Fairly big sized-Hot ‘Samosas’ — Served 1 piece, priced at $ 2.50 and tastes decent. People serving here are mostly volunteers. They are kind and give you prompt service! There are lots of parking spaces on the side, but not sure how packed will it be on the religious days!

This place was not just any ordinary hidden gem, It was a D/IF DIAMOND. We found this place after getting lost hiking down from Kim Son Monastery. Not sure If I was just dehydrated, but the ice cream I ate never tasted so good. We ended up having to hitchhike a ride back to the temple, but it was an unexpected adventure that I will never forget.

Anjaneya’s World Café is just an added drop of honey-sweet goodness to this majestic mountaintop overlooking Monterey Bay. With a million dollar view, take a minute to hang on the patio sipping homemade chai(with Indian authenticity sans the sugar high). It’s a small place but welcoming and just enough sweets and savories to tide you over. If you are visiting, note that it doesn’t have full-course meals – it’s not a restaurant and has snacks during the week and a bit heavier fare(like samosas) on weekends for the bigger crowds. What a lovely place to spend a few hours. OM!
