I had a similar issue with the owner as another reviewer mentioned. Definitely questionable business practices.
I talked to her in person, and she followed up with me by email with a total rental price. Three days after that email I called her to say that I’d like to reserve the house, followed by 2 emails from me, with no response.
Five days after my phone call, I got an email and a voicemail from her saying that the house was still available, «but at a substantially higher price». If I was still interested with this higher price, then I should let her know. So basically, even though she had quoted me a full price in writing, she was trying to create a bidding war for the property.
It all felt very unethical. I will never do any business dealings with them again. I have used VRBO for 15 years and have never experienced anything at all like this. Shame on them. The bad karma will smack them in the head someday, no doubt about it.

. I made specific written arrangements with the owner for their home, for a stay in October 2014. Upon receipt of my first installment of $ 732, I was told I will also need to pay an additional $ 1200 as a security deposit, with my final payment. This was NEVER written in any of the communication, until after the owner received my money.
When I questioned this, I was told «I didn’t know what the amount would be until I got your application». Wow, this is typical ‘bait and switch’ in my opinion.
After a few emails, I was finally told that the owner’s husband doesn’t think it’s a good idea to create a rental agreement with someone so far in advance and they’re returning my check and application. You have got to be kidding me. Very unprofessional to say the least. I would never recommend this vacation rental to anyone I know.
