Begin at the Wawona Hotel. The is a circle hike so always bear to your left. Ignore other trails. Walk across the Wawona golf course on the paved road. Once across the golf course, take the first left onto the unpaved fire road that loops around the meadow. Great little hike if you are camping at The Wawona Campground nearby or of course the hotel. Grab your wine or brew and head out in the evening. 3.5 miles not … more like 4 but easy mostly flat. Very pretty meadows no bear on our hike but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or maybe a deer grazing in the meadow.

I am very surprised to be the first to review this popular hike in Wawona. The Meadow Loop Trail begins by the Wawona Golf Course, goes the length of the course, wraps around the meadow, and takes you back to the Wawona Hotel. At 3.7 miles and almost nearly flat, it’s not that arduous a hike and can easily be done by a moderately in-shape hiker. Here’s the rub: we did it with three small children just after snow melt and had to leapfrog with a toddler in a Bob stroller, a baby in an Ergo, and a reluctant four-year old over multiple muddy puddles. Oh, and we also had to ford a small stream. Major props to hardy husband for wading in with the stroller with baby on his back while I carried said reluctant four-year old over so he would not get his feet wet. Lovely. In mid-summer to late fall, the hike would be easy. And without three children in tow, the hike would be *really* easy. The scenery — beautiful woodlands and meadow views — was absolutely worth it. We also did not need to apply sunscreen as the entire trail was covered and shaded. Even though it was hot outside, we were cool in the forest.
