I just stopped in the other day after having passed by this place a dozen times. I just got the mac & cheese sandwich for my son and he LOVED it. He played with the owner and honestly he was the nicest guy. He came over to talk to us & play with my son while he was cleaning up around the kids area. I would certainly come back and bring my son & husband. It’s not only a great place for kids but a really fun idea! Thanks!

Looks like the Wayne location is closed now. They replied on Facebook that it was due to a «real estate» issue. Sad to see it go, but I wasn’t too thrilled with their menu changes and the fact that they closed at 8:00 during the week.

I have been wanting to try this place, especially after I read all the positive reviews on Unilocal!Today I walked in and immediately noticed it was dirty. I was already there, so I just decided to stick it out and try something. I got a half crab grilled cheese and the smoked corn chowder. I thoroughly enjoyed the corn chower, until I found a hair in it. The grilled cheese was awful. The crab must have been fake and there was just a little scoop of crab in the middle, which didn’t even fill the whole sandwich. So basically, I paid $ 8.99 for a regular grilled cheese and a bite of crab. They lost my vote and I will not be returning. Tip to the resturant: there is no excuse for dirty tables and floors. I don’t care how busy it is — having your customers wipe down their own tables and chairs before they eat is a little ridiculous and disgusting. If the customer facing side of the resturant is that dirty, god only knows what the kitchen looks like!!!

This review is quite over due, but I’m in one of «those moods,» so I felt it was necessary to speak my piece. After seeing the great reviews here, me and my partner thought we would give this place a try. The place just opened for the day and so we did not think much of it when there was no one inside. We both placed our orders(can’t quite recall what we ordered; hence, not a very memorable experience) and waited a good 15 – 20 minutes. Someone else walked in after us and he got his order first(HUH?! We were there first.). Then, a little after that, my partner got his order. I finally got my order 5 or so minutes later… Not sure why it took so long to get my order, but realized when I got my sandwich, the female(I don’t remember her name… which is probably a good thing) that made the sandwich, did not make it with«love.» I ordered my sandwich with gluten free bread and I know the bread was frozen because the bread looked like it got attacked(the center of the bread was missing) in the toaster oven. I know this, because this happens to me at home IF you don’t toast the bread evenly/long enough. I also forgot to mention, the restaurant was dirty! Mind you, this place just opened, so one would think it would be clean from people cleaning it the night before and/or the morning of; however, I had to wipe down our table as well as my seat before I felt comfortable enough to sit down. I could go on for days, but I have already spent too much energy on this place… not worth it and not worth trying again.

Visited several times to try things; my husband tried almost every sandwich on the menu, while I stuck with the classic, but we also tried the milkshakes, soups, and salad. The employees were all really sweet and helpful(with the exception of one guy who always seemed too cool to be there), and I gave an extra star for them. The tomato soup is a little more spicy than I liked, but tasted fresh just the same. I went with American cheese each time, but whenever my husband ordered something with cheddar he said it didn’t seem to melt well. For my family, grilled cheese tastes great but is not super-filling for a body that needs a rounded meal. Thus, grilled cheese alone is not going to be meal-worthy, and needs soup or salad to feel satisfying. Unfortunately, the sandwiches alone at Melt Down are $ 5 — $ 8 each, the soups are $ 3 — $ 4, and the salads are $ 7(for portions half the size of Peace-a-Pizza at the same price). In fairness they offer combos of half a sandwich with soup or salad, but the size of portions for the money is very pricey compared to nearby places. For $ 7 I can get a burger and huge amount of fries at Newtown Pizza, or a foot-long hoagie at Berwyn Pizza, or the aforementioned salad at Peace-a-Pizza. I am satisfied for a meal with those options, but unfortunately the way things are portioned and priced at Melt Down, I can’t get the same value.

This is our new favorite lunch stop. At a convenient location right on lancaster ave, this place is great. It also isn’t ridiculously overpriced like a lot of these grilled cheese places apparently are. I have tried the Philly cheesesteak grilled cheese, the Mac and cheese grilled cheese, and one with turkey on it. I haven’t tried any of their soups or salads but they look good. Also, their grilled ice cream sandwich is amazing!

This place could be so much better! Grilled cheeses are an all-american favorites, so when I first saw this place driving by I thought, «Wonderful! A restaurant dedicated to all types of grilled cheeses! I can’t wait to try!» Read Unilocal reviews, of course, and still couldn’t decide what I wanted to try first visit. I spoke to the gentleman at the cashier who explained the most favored options on their menu as well as his own. Finally, I went with the«most popular» grilled cheese: Baja Melt. I couldn’t finish it all, size-wise good pricing, but I felt like I was eating a quesadilla! I was hoping to taste amazing cheeses from sandwich, but definitely didn’t get that. If I ever chose to give it another shot, I guess I’ll have to try the original grilled cheese.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here one night just before they closed. Despite the fact that they were trying to clean up, the staff couldn’t have been any friendlier. We ordered a standard cheddar grilled cheese to split, and they packed it up to go. It was still super hot and melt-y when we got home 10 minutes later. The bread was perfectly grilled, and I enjoyed the pickle slice it was served with. The place itself is cheesy(haha — to be expected, right?) but fun, with a bright, colorful design and cool circle series windows. They had a cool little section for kids, too. I’d love to come back to try the crab grilled cheese or the caprese, so look for an update!

I take the trip from WC to get their specialty sodas and the grilled mac and cheese… also, the corn chowder is really good, and I usually get the meal with a half sandwich and a cup of soup. My husband loves the grilled cheese with the crab in it, and the last time we went it was jam packed with crab, which was a nice treat my husband really loved. Still have yet to try the dessert, I’m usually too full, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

Has the feel of a fast food place. Tables were little dirty and not stocked with napkins, even though we got there right at the beginning of the lunch shift. Food was good, and service very friendly. Was expecting better.

I have been craving a Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese for a really long time. I finally got a chance to come here and I ordered the Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese. It was the perfect lunch for a cold day. Melt Down Grilled Cheese wasn’t crowded during the lunch rush, which was a plus. I ordered the half sandwich and tomato soup and it was delicious. I would come here again and order the milk shakes in the summer.

Da best. The food was gouda with Swiss service. The employ-cheese were funny, attentive and hooked us up with some awesome sandweeeeches. Absolute mu(n)st(er) if you’re fond– ue of grilled cheese.(side note no actual fondue). Be sure not to havarti eaten beforehand! Seriously though — the pickle and apple were amazing. sandwiches and service were excellent but the meal was complete with such high quality sides.

After writing my first review, the owners of Melt Down Grilled Cheese were quick to privately message me and not only apologize for my experience, but offer some coupons to go back and try it out again. I thought this was very generous and smart. So I went back the other day to give it another shot. Let me say, this experience was 1000 times better than my first one. From the moment I began my order, the gentleman helping me was nice, prompt, and got my order correct to a tee. I think his name was Dan, not sure might of been a manager? Anyways, he couldnt have been nicer or more helpful. As far as the food went, it was really, really good. We got the baja grilled cheese and the normal grilled cheese. Both were really good, tasty, not to greasy. Just very enjoyable. It reminded me of eating those amazing grilled cheeses when I was younger. I will have to say my favorite part was the milkshake! It was awesome! All in all it was a great experience, and it was made possible by the team that contacted me to makes things right. and they did! Thanks guys!

Yum! Who doesn’t love grilled cheese?! This place is delicious. At first, we didn’t think a grilled cheese sandwich would be enough food for dinner, but I’m so glad we gave it a try. The sandwiches are actually a lot bigger than what we expected – probably about an 8″ square. They have several cheese selections & combinations & if you want to switch up the sandwich, making it your personal creation, you can! Also, if you’re there and you check in, you can get $ 3 off a milkshake. And their milkshakes are SOGOOD! My husband said it’s the best milkshake he’s ever had. The consistency is perfect & they use local whole milk to make it super creamy. The only reason I gave this place 4* instead of 5 is some issues with the food service(don’t get me wrong, the actual customer service is wonderful, but they lacked a little in regards to the food). We were both served our sandwiches with chips, but later we found out that there was an option for an apple or chips. We both would’ve chosen an apple, but they didn’t make that known to us. Also, we didn’t receive the classic dipping sauce which is supposed to be served with every sandwich. We figured it probably just didn’t come with all sandwiches, but later found out it was supposed to. Lastly, I ordered their salad and it did not come with the avocado, as was listed. Shucks. All in all, I would definitely go back again, I would just pay a more attention to what I’m receiving, making sure I receive everything I’m supposed to.

Grilled cheese… one of my favorite comfort foods so when I heard about this place, I had to check it out. As soon as we got there, I checked in on my Unilocal app and to my surprise, got a $ 3 off coupon for a milkshake! What?!? So I validated it with the cashier and indeed got $ 3 off a milkshake =) I wanted to get almost everything on the menu, but when they mentioned the mac n cheese grilled cheese sandwich, I had to jump on it! Yes, I know, carbs + carbs + fat — delicious! Anyway, the bread they used was nice and thick, the service was very good, and a clean establishment also. I’ll definitely be back for seconds!

Talk about a high end grilled cheese joint. Who would have thought something so simple and easy could be so popular on the main line. Came in and grabbed some signature sliders, 3 to be exact. This trio consist of the classic, baja, and ham and cheddar. The classic is just sharp cheddar nothing else, you can add every ones favorite little piggy in bacon to the mix. The Baja had some more to it with Monterrey jack, avocado, chicken, tomato, with a light coating of baja butter. The last of the trio is the ham and cheddar melt. Sharp cheddar, with a cured ham with apple mustard, and a Rosemary butter. All 3 were on an Italian white, and comes with chips and a pickle. Myself I would have preferred fries, but that’s me. Kids love it, grownups are happy to have found an environment like this for the little ones. This place also offers milkshakes nothing fancy, chocolate, vanilla, or the traditional black and white. You can also choose from different breads to enjoy your grilled cheese, along with soups of the day or salads . Great for the kids with a little play pen located inside. I think it is a little much for a grilled cheese, but in all it keeps the kids and parents happy. This is OK, and with your check in you can get a free fountain soda with your choice of meal.

If I could give half stars, we’d be at 2.5. So there is apparently nothing else in this area around this, but since I’ve made it my goal in life to visit grilled cheese places, I’m holding this to a standard. Walking in, the place is set up like a fast food joint — you order at a counter, they then bring you your food. The menu is fairly small in terms of variety of grilled cheeses but has some fun options. We tried their signature smokey bacon chowder along with a classic grilled cheese and a sharp honey apple grilled cheese. The first thing to note that is really different here is the soda fountain. They don’t have coke or pepsi — they have a New Hope fountain which has some very different cane sugar colas. For me, this was a plus. For my husband, this was a huge minus. Dependent on who you are, you will love or hate this. The lemon and huckleberry sodas were delicious. The tea isn’t freshly brewed though and downright awful. The sandwiches were just meh. The cheese was cheap and did that funny thing where it melts like plastic almost — it’s a sign of not-so-nice cheese and means it was kind of flavorless sharp cheddar, which is sad. The Italian bread was crackery — not bad, but not perfect for a grilled cheese. The best thing was that honey, apple, and red onion is brilliant on a grilled cheese — I’m just going to steal their idea and made it with nicer cheese at home now. Soup was fine — we didn’t eat much of the bacon because it wasn’t all that great, but I’d go back for the soup if I lived in the area. Overall, this was the bottom of the grilled cheese tour list. It’s nothing to write home about.

Cheese makes everything better and this place takes that motto to a whole new level! Grilled Cheese grows up and becomes a main entrée instead of just a kid size meal. However, the place is very kid friendly with a little play corner. I don’t have kids so this factor was not really appealing to me but I had a great experience for a casual dinner with a friend. I no idea what to order because everything on the menu sounded delicious! I ended up ordering the Honey Apple because I wanted something that was kind of sweet. It is complete with Apple Slices, Cheddar(lots if it), Red Onion, Honey on Multi Grain bread. It was so good! The one odd(and upsetting) thing I found on the menu is that provolone cheese not an option for any of the sandwiches. My Italian grandma used to make me grilled cheese with provolone all the time and I would have ordered it for nostalgia. Provolone goes great will grilled tomatoes or artichokes. Hint, hint — management! PS. Check in on Unilocal and you get a free cup of soup! I had the loaded baked potato soup and it was very rich and tasty.

Tonight, we needed a place to get a quick late dinner. We passed this location on the way to the event we were attending, and the wife noticed it. Being the grilled cheese connoisseur that she is, she talked me into stopping here. It was not a hard sell for me. This place has been on my radar to try for a while. So, it was 8:30 on a Saturday night. Not too crowded, two guys working the counter, pretty easy to get good service. They were extremely friendly to boot. The Unilocal check in got us free soup, so we took advantage of that to try the Smokey Corn Chowder with Bacon. She got the BCT, and I couldn’t resist the Maryland Crab sandwich with some bacon. So let me just get this out of the way. Yes, the sandwich I ordered, since the bacon was extra, cost over $ 10. That’s a lot to pay for a specialty grilled cheese, although I’m sure the crab element takes that price up. I’ve seen past reviews mention the price point here. Gang, you will get your money’s worth here. That sandwich was the perfect combo. I mean, a grilled cheese sandwich with crab and bacon on it… I am officially here to tell you that yes, it is as damn good as it sounds. And the corn chowder with bacon… most definitely as good as it sounds. It all fills you up. I left here completely satisfied. And the chipotle dipping sauce they give you… if you like a good spicy kick, you’ll dig that. But here’s where they really won me over. I have seen some comparisons to the Pop Shop in Jersey. If you know of this place, you know it also specializes in grilled cheese(although the Pop Shop is more of a full service diner than this), I enjoy the Pop Shop, but somewhere in there, their grilled cheeses became too specialized to the point where a lot of the specialty grilled cheeses became different types of sandwiches on their own, and lost the elements of a true grilled cheese that makes it so great. What I like about Melt Down is that they don’t lose that. I got a sandwich with crab, bacon, and imperial sauce that could have easily lost that grilled cheese simplicity that is so wonderful. Yet, I still felt like I was eating grilled cheese. They seem to have figured that out, and I hope they don’t lose that. If you try one, you’ll know what I mean. But don’t just take my word for it… my wife was so happy with her grilled cheese that she’s already planning on dragging me up here all the way from Glenolden for one of our Friday night dinners out. Again, it won’t be a tough sell. Sure, you can get a cheaper grilled cheese up the street at Minella’s, but really that’s no damn fun. This place is special. It makes driving up from lower Delco worth it. That’s the highest praise I can give.
