My review has absolutely nothing to do with the food, as I did not get the chance to eat it. My waitress was delightful, she seemed sweet, was attentive, and jovial. The hibachi cook on the other hand must have sucked on a lemon before getting to the table. We went on a Friday night and were literally the only people in the restaurant. One would think that if attendance is so poor on a Friday the employees would want customers to actually make some money. Apparently for Mr. Hibachi Chef this is not the case. He arrived at the table clearly in a state that screamed he did not want to be there, even though the place was supposed to be open for another hour and a half. He actually slammed down the bowls that held the dipping sauces and continued to be as rude and awful as possible. I am allergic to black pepper, when I asked what he was putting on the food he ignored me completely. I then literally said, «so you are going to ignore me?» he continued to ignore me and pepper the food. Then after he was done and I continued to speak while he pretended I was not, he looked up and said, yes it is pepper. So if he hadn’t heard me he would not have known what my question was. He deliberately acted as though he had not heard me. When I told him that I could not eat the food that he had so generously peppered through my protests he looked at me like I was outlandish. Someone came out, idk if it was the manager or not, who supplied new steak and shrimp to be cooked without pepper. This would have been agreeable to me, had the chef not continued to slam things around and behave in a rude manner, so I requested the check and to-go boxes, paid and left. As I said earlier, the waitress was great, and honestly I have never had hibachi that I didn’t like. But when I’m paying $ 30 for each plate you could at least pretend that you don’t hate every second of your job, especially since cooking what we ordered was honestly less than 20 minutes of his time. I won’t return, it has nothing to do with the waitress or the possible manager. The place was clean and looked cute, but the chef was a douche and I won’t give money to support his continued employment. This is his livelihood, having customers on a Friday night should be a given, don’t get pissed at me for trying to have a good dinner.

If you like to wait a long time then this is the place for you. I was told my food would be ready in 10 minutes. I ended up waiting over a half hour. The service is terrible. Went home and my meal wasn’t even correct. Also overly priced.

We came here with 25 people tonight. They were able to seat us all together. The hibachi meals were served nicely and the chef’s entertainment was fun. I think the other wait staff was unprepared for a party of our size. One of our party members ordered sushi only and I ordered a Bento box. The sushi came quickly and the chefs started their meal preps and distributing the portions to all who went with the hibachi dinners. Unfortunately my Bento box did not arrive until everyone was done. I had inquired about it several times and my husband finally got up to ask again. When I finally got the bento box the only thing that was hot was the tempura. My teriyaki salmon was cold and dry. For about 20 minutes, there were no wait staff to be seen. So many had empty cups.

Terrible. The food was eh and the service was the WORST. It just ruined the whole experience. You shouldn’t have to get up and find the waiter and repeatedly ask for things. And then be met with constant contempt. 1. My boyfriend asked for steamed rice. They never made it or brought it until repeatedly asked. Like, seriously, about 5 times. 2. Never refilled drinks until hunted down and asked repeatedly. 3. They put teriyaki on the chicken without asking. My boyfriend hates teriyaki and sent it back. They made a huge fuss about it and left and didn’t bring him fresh chicken until asked repeatedly. 4. After all this, I got up to go find the manager. I found a couple employees just sitting on their asses behind the sushi bar. They got the waitress for me, not the manager, and she basically shrugged at my requests. Really? Is this the kind of service a restaurant that costs above $ 20/head should have? I left a small tip because I just can’t do that to a person, but it was about half of what I would have left if the service had been good. Also, the food is nothing to write home about. Average sushi and below average hibachi. Spend your money and time elsewhere.

We went for an early dinner(4:30 on Saturday). We sat a the hibachi table, and even though it was just 3 of us, they began cooking once we placed our order. We had sushi, which was fresh and very tasty. The hibachi dinners came with soup and salad. You get a choice of fried rice or noodles with dinner, we opted for the rice. Two of us had filet mignon, a chicken and shrimp combo was the other dish. I can tell you there was enough food on each plate to share. We all had to go bags. The service was wonderful, several times we were asked if everything was OK. I would definitely return.

Umi has great and flavorful sushi but I feel like they are a little bit pricey. They do have a lunch special for three rolls. The rolls are fresh. You can also byob at Umi which is great. They have some booths where you can sit down on pillows and they have a curtains for privacy.

Very nice Japanese restaurant, very attentive wait staff. Food portions are not exaggerated. They also offer kids hibachi grill menu, which my kids loved for the kids portion size. Reasonably priced to other hibachi grills in the area.

The staff has absolutely no concept of customer service. I was there with 15+ people for a birthday, and I ordered chicken hibachi… Simple. However, the chef dropped a full platter of shrimp on my plate. Understandable mistake, and we all made due, by splitting the shrimp and chicken my friend had gotten. When it came time for the bill– I wanted to make sure I wasn’t charge for extra shrimp, and just the chicken I ordered. The waitress got very angry and INSISTED I ordered shrimp, no matter how calmly I explained that wasn’t the case, she got more and more heated about it, claiming«someone has to pay for it. And you’re the one who ordered it, not me». I almost lost my cool, out of sheer frustration in knowing I didn’t order shrimp! It sounds so silly… but to be repeatedly told I’m wrong is not how to handle things. Eventually she gave in, and said she would do me the favor of not charging for«double shrimp». Terrible way to handle simple mistake, especially with a bill that will be in the thousands of $$. It’s a shame cause the food is not bad at all. And the hibachi chefs are a riot. Oh well…

Not what you might expect when you first drive by this hidden gem. Atmosphere is very nice and great for kids or couples. My first visit was a good one as we order some very tasty Sashimi for an appetizer and I followed that up with a great selection of sushi which rated above average for me. The hibachi was standard, got a saki shot squirted in my mouth from the chef and he was relatively entertaining. Overall I would go back in a heart beat.

Had a 7:30 reservation for 10 people on a Saturday night. It was my daughters 14th birthday celebration. We showed up at 7:30, there was no one at the hostess desk, finally by 7:45 I flagged someone down and showed her my reservation. She said it would be 15 minutes to seat us. NOJOKE! By 8:30, we still were not seated, no one would explain or talk to us! We finally went next store and ate at Bensi. I WOULDNOTEVERGOHEREAGAIN!!!

We made a reservation for 6:30 for Mothers Day. We arrived at about 6:25 and were told we had about a 15 minute wait. I informed the hostess that we had reservations, to which she responded, with a serious attitude, that they were very busy. Also the websites says 10% discount with student ID, I was told this is not the case, they don’t give any discounts. My scallops were unbelievably salty and my husband’s fillet mignon was over cooked. Not in love with this place.

I come here every now and then, I have been here many many times. I have ordered take out as well as sat there for an actual dinner. I probably have eaten here over 10 times since it opened. I agree that they do have young hostess’ so that could be the reason for a few of these reviews. THe hostess is sweet but young, so I think that could be an issue. I have ordered to go on occasion, and have never had any problems. Maybe once I had to wait too long for a sushi roll to go, but it was not a big deal. This place is in a pretty good location. It is in a shopping center, but isn’t mostly every other sushi place around here. Its good because there is not too many sushi locations near it. The inside is clean and very nicely decorated. The food is great, and comes in big portions, and is pretty decently priced. Some rolls are a slight bit expensive but thats typical with sushi places. I will say sometimes service is not always up to par, but most of the time it is pretty good. But the food is always fresh, and good.

Super expensive in the end for a meal. And I still left hungry. I ordered a side of hibachi shrimp for $ 7. I got 6 small cooked shrimp and no rice. Seriously? I had to order an additional side of rice for a couple of bucks. Got two rolls of sushi. Was not impressed with either. They were just okay. $ 60+ for two people in the end with no alcohol and we did not get much food. Will never come here again. Décor was nice though.

Umi is a pretty nice Japanese restaurant which seems quite inconspicuous as it is located in a small strip mall and has an unremarkable store front. Despite the unremarkable exterior, the inside ambiance is very nice. The lighting is dim which provides more of a romantic and intimate setting. The décor is not overly cheesy or stereotypically Asian. When you walk in you are right in front of the front desk but you can see the cool booths where you can sit in the traditional Japanese style with shoes off and on floor pillows. I have never had sushi or menu dishes here but they always look delicious. I have only been to this restaurant for a few gatherings with friends for birthdays and celebrations and have always been in the hibachi section which is located to the back of the restaurant. Once a waitress sits you down and takes your drink order, you wait for a bit until another waitress comes with the drinks and takes your food order. This switching of waitresses can sometimes result in miscommunications and mistakes but they are always minor and easily fixed. The hibachi dinner is a bit expensive but you get a lot of good food and a bit of a show. First, you get some miso soup and a salad. The soup is nice and light but the dressing on the salad is fantastic!(And this is coming from a person who almost never gets dressing on salad.) After the appetizers comes the main course! The hibachi chef comes to the grill and begins cooking the noodles, fried rice, and meats. As the food is cooking the chef does some cool knife tricks and entertains guests by flinging veggies or squirting sake(or water for those underage) into mouths. After watching, and smelling, the delicious meal be cooked right before your eyes, it is super exciting to dig into the freshly cooked hot meal on your plate. I have had steak, shrimp, and scallops at Umi and everything has been absolutely delectable.

I honestly think this is the best sushi in the area. I would be surprised if I wasn’t their most regular customer. The rice is always done just right, not too sweet or too much vinegar. The fish always tastes fresh. I’ve noticed some variation in the same rolls, but I suppose that depends on who makes it. My only real complaint about the food is sometimes the«special sauce» is literally just mayonnaise. I’m not really fond of 1⁄3 inch of mayo on top of my sushi. The service here is average at best. They can sometimes be rude. I once ordered two rolls for take out and when I picked it up they gave and charged me for three. I told her I only ordered two, but she gave me such a bad attitude telling me I’m wrong that ended up just taking it.
