Went here about a month ago on a trip to the Minneapolis area. This is a very cute restaurant. Got a table right away. I got the one blue point oyster as an appetizer to go with the bread. To drink I got the happy hour double pour Chardonnay. For my entrée I ordered the shellfish linguine entrée. My friend got the swordfish and let me have a bite. I would recommend the swordfish it was delicious. The shellfish linguine had lots of muscles and clams which were really good. Definitely go around happy hour for the DOUBLEPOUR!

Just came back from Happy hour(we do this once a month with another couple). Calamari — average, didn’t care for the ginger aioli, mussels — average, fish tacos, better but lots of raw onion, pizza — average — six slices for the 4 of us(?) Server — not great. I want blue point to succeed but they need to step it up several notches to compete with Cov which is five stars.

Not that great for the price you pay. Only went one time however, might have been a bad night.

I am giving this restaurant three stars with the big caveat that I was here for a private event with work and my experience probably varied greatly from normal sit-down service. Our party was large — probably about 30 people — and we were seated in a private room. It was the type of deal where there was a preselected menu with an appetizer selection, four or five entrees to pick from and two dessert options. I had the soup, a chowder I thin, which was fine but not anything amazing, I had a scallop and duck entrée. My scallops were lukewarm and gritty, and the duck was hard and not very appetizing. The chocolate molten lava cake was decent, but again, not hot enough. I absolutely realize that it’s a really tricky thing to serve a party of that size simultaneously. But it really seemed like there were issues with temperature and consistency. There were some very nice touches, including a specially printed menu. Reading though the other reviews, it seems like perhaps the experience for a regular meal here would be vastly different. So I’m looking forward to my next visit and hope to update my review.

Originally owned by the team at Parasole, Blue Point is a Wayzata staple for fresh fish and, naturally, oysters. The décor is old school in a good way and the service sublime. I’ve eaten here many times over the years and have never had a bad meal or poor service — the place is consistent. Given the number of times I’ve dined at BP I can honestly say I’ve had every item on the menu. All are good but some are my personal favorites. They are as follows: the tuna steak is a must, halibut is always perfectly cooked and melts in your mouth, the oysters are to die for and the calamari is the best in the Twin Cities. If you’re not a fish person the their steaks are fantastic, they even rival Gianni’s, a steak house one block away. If you’re a happy hour person be sure to try it here. Generous glasses of wine, a fine selection of spirits and a wide array of beers on tap are all on special. Their appetizers are also a bargain during happy hour. Do note that the bar is filled with locals who are eager to engage new comers in spirited conversation with the Lake Minnetonka area often as their favored subject. Also, if you’re interested in discussing politics you’ll likely be amongst a Fox News crowd that’s well educated, affluent and respectful — no barroom brawls over touchy opinions. BP is not a budget restaurant and that shows in the food, the service and the value. I highly recommend BP for anyone in the western reaches who wants to enjoy fresh fish.

We love this restaurant, once every other month, for a light-fare, early dinner, between 4 and 5pm(opens at 4PM). Large parking lot, right behind the building … easy walk to the back patio and through the back entrance to be seated. We order drinks from the full bar … a dozen Blue Points on the half shell and an order of Baked Blue Point Oysters Rockefeller. Then we follow it up with a Caesar Salad with added salmon. It’s just an excellent meal … expertly prepared and elegantly served. We are finished by 5:30 or 6pm, before the dinner rush. This is a nice, little town and delightful to walk on main street, after dinner. Their full menu has wonderful fresh and mouth-watering seafood selections(and a few elegant beef choices) and is viewable on their website. We always enjoy the dining experience there!

Disappointing to say the least. Meals arrived Luke warm to cold. My wife had the shrimp & chorizo risotto special. Shrimp was cold in the middle, chorizo & risotto overcooked & barely warm. Very gummy, bland & flavorless. I had the grilled white shrimp entrée. The shrimp was almost tepid, nearly inedible, yet the risotto cake was so hot it couldn’t be eaten. There was no sign of the tomato butter listed on the menu. Poorly prepared food & outdated décor & menu will doom the place to finish last.

Omg, the hash browns! I want to marry the hash browns! They are not even the traditional hash browns one might think of but a sexy version of American fries that have been fried in butter to perfection. Seriously each piece was perfectly crispy and buttery with nice caramelized onions and mushrooms mixed in. So amazing! Service was good, décor was fancy and romantic. Drinks were average(I ordered an old fashion). Oh and the New York Steak was pretty awesome as well. Nice red wine reduction on the thing.

Food was very good. Had the blackened chilean swordfish and my wife had the bacon wrapped scallops. Both were very good. The best part was I put a note in my reservation I made through Unilocal that it was our anniversary and I’d like to get a nice table if possible. We did get a nice table and then the waitress acknowledged it and they gave us a generous sized piece of pie with a candle in it on the house. Overall, it was a great meal with good attention to detail.

Now that I figured out which restaurant I was in, it’s the only one that fits my standards. Downtown Wayzata is so beautiful, near the lake. It reminds me a little of an area in Bayfield, WI. A pure seafood restaurant with a few token beef dishes thrown in. We started with a very flavorful and delicate calamari. I would like a hair more crunch. We shared one of the best New England clam chowders in flavor and texture, with a perfect balance of clams. The jumbo white gulf shrimp lured us both. Even though it was served lukewarm, I didn’t want to mess with how buttery and perfectly charred it was. It came with a risotto cake, and I preferred that over potatoes. We had time to kill before the bookstore event, so we got dessert. Basil got the bread pudding served in a goblet. The spices gave it a dark color, and they offer to top it off with whiskey, that’s crazy. I got a delicious crème brûlée served in a deep ramekin. I can’t put my finger why it’s so different. The service was great. I had a nice chat with John the manager. The break in the weather that one day in mid March made it the perfect evening.

Love their happy hour! $ 8 double pour wine by the glass and awesome fish tacos and blackened fish sandwich along with oysters on a half shell. This is all part of their happy hour menu. Most of the dishes are big enough to be a full meal. This is one of the best happy hour seafood places and goes until 6:30. Gets pretty packed in the bar area since it’s pretty small. They also have a parking lot in the back that I forget about.

Best shrimp in Minnesota. Spoiled on «pinks» in Florida and great seafood on both coasts, finding a great tasting shrimp is more than difficult unless you want some frozen shrimp deep fried so you can depend on the sauce for flavor. This is worth the drive for us. The place is spacious for a quiet conversation. The room on the back bar side has poor accoustics and makes the experience uncomfortable. The main room on the restroom side is perfect. Price for quality is excellent. Service wonderful. Reception always friendly. The peel and eat white shrimp for $ 10 is the best taste and value you will find. Great place for couples and families. Parking in the free local lot behind the restaurant makes Blue Point an easy place to get to. On a summer night, a walk around the area and to the lake across the street is a nice way to end the dinner.

I am from New England and know good seafood. Why do I keep returning? The restaurant looks like it’s in New England, but the food is so sad. The Cesar salad was so unexciting. croutons were like small erasers, anemic lettuce. Mussels were equally unexciting. I suggest adding garlic/onion/olive oil/fresh herbs. Making your own croutons would be nice(which is easy) or at least purchase good ones… I recommend you visit the Daily Catch in Boston to understand seafood.

Great food, great service, great experience. From the moment we walked in, we knew our business was appreciated. Attentive, yet not overwhelming service and a great menu await you. You will love the experience at Blue Point. Benjamin Freedman Minnetonka, MN

It’s arguably the best«Happy Hour in the Western suburbs ! The menu is loaded with well prepared items, the Fish and Chips are great, Mussels, Oysters, and Fish Taco to name a Few. The Beer, Cocktails, and Wine are great values, A great bunch of Bartenders, and the people watching is a hoot!!!

While the happy hour is fun at blue point some of the staff is downright rude. Our group of 12 was basically told to leave because there was not enough room for us at a table. Margaret(hostess) was not polite about it. It’s one thing to be really busy. It’s another to unapologetically tell someone to leave a table.

Food is pretty good but not spectacular. Had the duck/scallops combo and the mahi mahi with mashed potatoes. The duck was pretty good but the fish entrée was bland. Everything was pretty bland in general. It’s very pricey, about $ 30 an entrée, and your dinner comes without salad or anything. Even the bread is bland. We had dessert and coffee: the coffee is bad, and the dessert, a molten chocolate cake, was cold in some spots telling us it came from the freezer. The atmosphere is old… we call it the Blue Hair sometimes… because lots of grey hairs there, but it’s nice overall and I made a reservation for 7pm at 6pm on a Friday. Small bar area filled with locals which at least gave it some life. But it’s like a place we go when we need to talk… not really for the food. Good wine list though.

Happy Hour selections seemed reasonable in variety and price. Overall, I’d like to give this place about 2.75 stars. As I walked thru the bar area back to the table and chair area, I felt many eyes on me — I felt as if I had intruded on someone else’s turf, and chalked it up to simply being in a place where locals or regular patrons hang out. I must have been the«anomaly»(maybe it’s my two heads…). We tried the PEI steamed mussels, cocktail shrimp and some fried potato chunks with an aioli«dribble». We also each ordered a beer. It seemed to me that the waitress was in a great hurry to be on her way rather than answer questions we had about items on the menu. That sort of attitude diminishes my liking of any place. When we wanted to leave, it seemed to take forever to get her attention to settle up our bill. My beer was not all that cold when it was served. I had ordered an Amstel and I like that sort of beer served *cold*. The food was good. The PEI mussels were sweet and delectable. The shrimp cocktail was as expected. The potatoes were hot and tasty, but the«dribble» of aioli on them would be best enjoyed as a generous dip in it’s own little cup as it got rather«lost» on those hot fried potatoes. It was fun to sit at the front window in the bar and see people walk by and to also see a train go by.
