Very good breakfast, great hash and an owner who was great with my children. We are planning on trying dinner next.

Terrific road house food on a great motorcycle road with a fantastic view. Who could ask for more. Ride in and enjoy the food.

Passable but decidedly mediocre flavors. Good fable service. Expensive for quality received.

We had lunch here recently and were pleased to see a new menu and the place spiffed up a little. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and although the fish portion was large, I ate every bit. Breakfast is great, with serve yourself coffee immediately available, love it. Very kid-friendly. Wish they featured more local/organic/sustainable/low-spray/pastured meats, dairy, eggs, and produce more; this area is screaming for a real farm-to-table restaurant. I’d happy pay quite a bit extra for local meat or cheese or what have you. Good models for this are the Oakhurst Diner or the Phoenicia Diner in NY. I could see adding a few higher priced local specials and keeping the nicely modestly priced options too.

My best friend and I had dinner here over the weekend and were very pleased. We sat at the bar and started out with a couple of their signature cocktails. Our bartender was super friendly and helpful. Our entrees were excellent — I had the mahi and my friend had the pork butt which I tried. Both were great and while I’m not a huge pork fan, I must say it was really tasty! I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant — would highly recommend!

We stopped here after a day of driving. The ambiance of the restaurant was very warm and welcoming. The sound of Tony Bennett playing made our dinner all the more special. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich. He was blown away by the hickory sweet flavor.

Neat place located by covered bridge. Save time to walk over to the river, it is beautiful. The food is ok. We were hoping for more

Terrible lead hostess and overpriced mediocre food. Don’t believe the Unilocal reviews you’ll read on this site. A few of them are written by the owner himself. Small restaurant with small personality.

We’ve gone to the Wandering Moose on many occasions and have found the food to be consistently good to excellent. For breakfast I recommend the home-made muffins, freshly squeezed OJ, eggs Benedict, blueberry pancakes and(my favorite) home-made corned beef hash. For dinner we have not had anything that we didn’t like. The ribs, jambalaya, scrod, and(my wife’s favorite) salmon are excellent. Love the hand-mashed potatoes. And the desserts(if there’s any left over) delicious. We’ve found the owners and wait staff to be efficient and attentive, even when crowded. Remember that this is a small restaurant with a small staff.

Went to the historic car event at Lime Rock and after found this place on the way home. Stopped for lunch and sat outside with a view of the West Cornwall Bridge. The sandwiches were very good and the waitstaff was excellent. We will return.

I’d love to give a higher rating, but I can’t justify it. We’ve been there a dozen or so times over the last few years and always enjoy ourselves, but the staff is never that friendly and recently the cleanliness has been an issue. We have gone for breakfast and lunch. The food was always good and they have a nice patio that is perfect for watching the classic cars and motorcycles that often cruise by to cross the nearby covered bridge. The location is perfect to stop and relax on our weekend adventures which is the reason we keep going back despite the minor problems. I’d recommend giving it a shot if you are in the area. Also, if you’re just visiting and want a classic New England photo opp, cross the road and walk down towards the water. The bridge gives a great backdrop. There are also benches if you feel like grabbing a coffee to go and taking in the scenery before hopping back in the car.

Our family has been patrons to the wandering moose for years. For most of that time the waitstaff is pissy, food average and location fantastic. Usually we can tolerate the rudeness due to lack of breakfast options in the area. I can’t say much about the guy cooking the food he seems like a decent guy, maybe a bit removed, but I’d be the same way if my frumpy wife alienated all of my customers. We came with a party of 10 and asked to be seated outside, the waitress was snappy and replied«No, I’m not opening an entire part of the restaurant. We’re already packed and if I did that I’d kill myself. You can wait 10 minutes and sit inside». Needless to say that will be the last time our families dine here. I hope the attitude was worth the $ 150-$ 200 bill and all future business. Do yourself a favor and«wander» to a different restaurant.

We sat outside when we got here and it started to drizzle so waitress made us move. Rest of waitstaff was sort of rude and not very talkative. Food was mediocre for the price

Yes, the location is great. However the food is not. Especially beware of the fried shrimp or anything involving fish to say nothing of the Cesar salad.. The gilled cheese for lunch and the breakfast are passable. They really should should offer local eggs and fresh, organic produce(at least in the summer) as it is so bountiful in the area. and maybe some local –roasted Irving Farm coffee. The female owner is extremely grouchy. The paeya(sp?) is very scary. Cross fingers for improvements. Oh yes — dinner is over-priced.

This hidden gem of a restaurant in north west Connecticut nestled next to The West Cornwall covered Bridge crossing the Housatonic River is absolutely amazing. My wife and I often make seasonal trips up that way, and have always said we should go there for lunch; well we finally made it and were extremely happy. The staff is exceptionally courteous and professional. I had the special hamburger of the day, the Cajun burger with cheese, she had the maple rubbed chicken sandwich which was with maple mayonnaise and we both loved them! The restaurant has a quaint patio seating area and a family friendly inside dining space, it is also a short drive(30 minutes or so) from Lime Rock Speed Way. For the leaf peepers I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Spent the morning Geocaching up the 7 and stopped off for some nourishment. I had the standard eggs, home fries, sausage and toast. It was very good. My husband had the Belgian waffle with fruit topping. He really enjoyed it. We also grabbed a homemade blueberry muffin and slice of chocolate cake for later. Overall great place, nice ambiance, attentive and pleasant service. Definitely worth another visit to try their lunch options.

The Wandering Moose is in the heart of West Cornwall with a nice view of the popular«Covered Bridge.» I’ve had food from here three times, one eating inside, and two takeout. I’m a fan of the maple chicken sandwich, but right off the bat I can say there is some underlying inconsistency, I know this because I ordered the same thing all three times! The first time was the best, nice tender chicken breast with sweet maple mayonnaise and hand cut fries. The second time my friend and I ordered the same sandwich with homemade potato chips to go. When we got home, we found that they were bagged wavy lays chips! The third time we ordered, they were«out» of the hand cut fries, and homemade chips! That would be ok if they told us before ordering because it’s $ 32 for two of these sammies. The buns were torched and hard as a rock with wilted lettuce. When we called back to see what had happened we were told that it was because the orders sat under the heat lamp in the kitchen for too long before they were boxed up for takeout. I would like to give The Moose the benefit of the doubt because I have heard dinner is excellent, and they are popular out in the area. I will definitely go back for a casual and quiet night out, and see them do well moving forward! Please don’t let this review stray you away from popping in for a bite to eat. The wait staff is very friendly and welcoming, and the owners are nice… just a few kinks to work out!

This is a nice little place to stop in especially if you can done outside and take in the view of the old West Cornwall covered bridge. It is right in the center of a quaint town and a few steps from the bridge. The menu has some good choices for lunch and dinner, but the real treat for visitors seems to be the Gifford’s Ice Cream. It seems to get a lot of day tourists, but more importantly seems to get a lot of locals which is always a great sign.

And the award for«Best Restaurant Named After the Most Common Local Automotive Hazard» goes to… The Wandering Moose! Perhaps the implication is that the meese have wandered southward from Vermont and New Hampshire… not really sure. Regardless, experience the essence of Northwest Connecticut by having an admirable meal here. A simple menu, a sweet waitress, a view of the covered bridge over the Housatonic. It’s Connecticut alright. I had the special burger, «Dangerous Dan’s BBQ,» which was flavored not only by the sauce, but ingredients mixed in to the patty itself. I was a little miffed that it didn’t have any cheese, though I guess it’s my fault for not asking. The fiancée had one of their signature dishes, the maple chicken sandwich. Served with homemade chips. Yummy stuff. You can even stop in for a takeout coffee and a pastry in the morning. Considering this is basically one of two restaurants in West Cornwall, I can certainly understand the need for an all-in-one type of place.
