I came in here at 9 pm on a Friday night with a group of 8. There were probably 15 other patrons in bar at this time. The ambience was great; plenty of television to catch some football with tons of seating options available. My wife ordered a pear Moscow mule which she loved(she’s a sucker for Moscow miles). I went for the basic gin and tonic. Unfortunately, my drink was extremely weak and tasted completely like tonic with a splash of lime. It also took more than 10 minutes to receive our order of drinks and the bartender showed no urgency. Only 2 people in our group ordered mixed drinks; the rest ordered bottled beer. The food options are pretty standard bar food. We split an order of the chicken spinach artichoke dip quesadilla, which tastes exactly like it sounds. The quesadilla tortilla was a bit greasy on the outside, but other than that, it was delicious. The biggest issue I had was at the end of the night. We asked for our bill and the waitress literally took more than 20 minutes to grab our bill. She continued to chat with the bartender and grab other customer drink orders while completely neglecting our request. Overall, great atmosphere, decent food options, but awful service. Maybe it was an off night, but I do not plan on returning in the near future.

We came to Valley Junction for a farmer’s market and yet once again were drawn to our favorite«neighborhood» bar(like this one much better than our actual neighborhood bar!!) Billy and Scott are our favorite bartenders and they make sitting at the bar a fun experience! Billy and Scott are entertaining as they banter back and forth with their customers and each other. Last night, there was live music, delicious pulled pork sandwiches, and friendly people. We will be back next Thursday to sit at the bar and enjoy the Billy and Scott show!

The food here is pretty typical of bar food. The food is good, but nothing unique about the menu. I would agree with a couple other reviews about the service. It was slower and the server seemed to run on their own schedule. Overall, not a bad place for when you are craving some bar food.

My first time in I was treated very disrespectfully by one of the managers and I will not be going back. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or what but he ruined any chance of getting my business again; I have never been treated so poorly anywhere else in Des Moines or elsewhere.

There are things I like about this place – proximity and friendly staff. Some of the stuff I’ve had here is decent(the burgers), but the Spin-Art Chicken Sandwich Is just not great. Just low on taste with rubbery chicken. The Blue Moon was flat and a tad warm and the Yard sauce is a tad spicy. I do enjoy their tenderloins.

The burgers here are awesome, and made to order, so no dry hockey pucks here! The atmosphere is relaxed-it’s definitely a bar setting-and the drinks are decently priced. The service, though, is slow slow slow. Any time I visit, whether slow or busy, the staff never seems to be in much of a hurry. But if you don’t mind a little slower service, this is a great hang out!

Most come here for Iowa games but we come for the pasta! The service is always pretty quick and the wait staff always nice. Definitely give this place a shot for more than just normal bar food.

Great bar & grill in Valley Junction. Huge menu, great tasting food, lots of tvs, awesome staff, big westside patio for that afternoon/evening sun and solid prices. Love The Longest Yard!

This is bar food. But it is very well made. Weekends include great live music as well. Bob Pace played last night, and he is a frequent act. Superb show! And no cover charge. Burgers and sandwiches are very good and the service is excellent!

Good bar food in a quaint Valley Junction pub. The menu is standard pub fare but it is quite good. They also have ample TVs on the walls for viewing any games on at the time. Their claim to fame is their half yards and yards of beer, which come it glasses of said lengths.
