Awesome guy, Mario who runs/owns this spot is personable, and provides an experience not often provided in businesses today. He is talkative, friendly, and very welcoming. The haircuts are great too — I will definitely return when back in Hartford.

Gotta give it up to Mario for getting me a great cut on the cheap. Stopped in today after a mysteriously weird experience at my previous barber. I walked in today – as I’ve done many times in the past, and dude looked at me like he’d never seen me before. He then gave me the«do you have an appointment» line and told me I’d have to wait for hours for a cut. While I don’t mind that as I know the man is busy, what I do mind is when he had NOIDEAWHO I AM. I gave him an assumed name and he bought it… let me walk… and he’ll never see me again. I was a good customer, tipped him well. Tough crap, man. Enter Mario. I’ve walked by his shop a few times and decided to give him a go. With one guy ahead of me, Mario made some great conversation and spun some great tales. He shook my hand and looked me in the eye, asking me exactly what I wanted. And he delivered. I got a great, no nonsense cut here… in 20 minutes or so… for $ 20 plus tip. Mario does not do shaves. Haircuts, conversation, humor is what takes place here. But I’m telling you, he’s good. I’ll be back when the mop gets unwieldy and needs another shaping. Glad I took the chance and wandered in today. Mario’s joint is a great little find in the Park Road area.

Mario is the man. Great stories if you get him going. Does a great job. Often will close pretty early if he has people sitting in his waiting room so don’t get there right at 6. Walk-ins only.

Great barber. Mario is sociable, friendly, and well traveled. You would be amiss to go yo any other barber other than here if you are in the area.

I went to Mario for the first time and got a great haircut. Mario was very nice, introduced himself, shook my hand we chatted for a bit. It’s strange how many places treat you like a stranger but Mario was very friendly and gave a great haircut. It was $ 20 well spent. I will definitely be going back.

Mario’s a really nice genuine guy, the place is a one-chair little shop where you get individual attention and conversation like I always wanted and never got from a barber at those bigger shops. He does a great thorough haircut too. I’m kinda cheap so $ 20 is more than I usually pay for my haircuts, but the pleasantness of the experience makes it well worth it.

It’s Mario’s shop now! I’ve been coming to South Quaker Barber Shop for about a year now. I try to get there early Saturday mornings, before the crowd hits. As of July, 2013, Mario’s the new owner, and he’s running the whole show. Great haircuts, great atmosphere, good conversation, no snobbery. If you’re tired of getting the same old cookie cutter haircut, this is the shop for you! If only there was room for him to park that vintage VW microbus in front of the shop…

Excellent! Amazing value, quick cut, top quality! Don’t go to the chain salons. Local barber shops are where it’s at! Note: I believe this place is now called Quaker Lane Barber Shop.

Closest thing to an old time shop as you’ll get in WH. Early hours but a good cut. Mario is a real nice guy that knows the area. And for a good cut with a straight blade neck shave, you can’t beat $ 15.

The address should say South Quaker Lane, this is offa Park Rd near Quaker Diner I stopped coming here cos I stopped working in WH Center and got a job in Hartford. As if I couldn’t drive down Park Rd ever. No I was a moron and started going to a Salon at Westfarms and putting Paul Mitchell shit in my hair. And with a Salon they ask you«who’s your stylist?» like it’s not bad enough ya gotta commit to a wife or a girlfriend, now ya gotta commit to Colleen or Staci. Well Colleen or Staci never put hot lather on my neck, scraped it with a straight razor, and covered it with a hot towel. This place is easy on the wallet, and face it real men get haircuts in barber shops.
