Ye Old Liquor Shoppe

The have everything you will ever need. Good small liquor store decent prices. I tell everyone that’s close to me to go check them out.

In West Haven, I think that Ye Old is the best liquor store. I will even drive across town to go there even though there are probably three liquor stores closer to my house. It’s a relatively small shop, but looks can be deceiving because their selection is quite good related to their size. They have all the basics and then some. Did you know that they will special order items for you? Obviously speak to someone at the store for specifics, but I have gotten a case of Pipeline Porter from Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii delivered just for me to Ye Old. This is a huge plus for someone like myself who lived out west for some time and learned to appreciate many of the craft micro brews of that region which are usually unavailable in this area.
Another plus about Ye Old is the staff. A few of the guys there really know their stuff when it comes to wine, especially the one who usually wears a cap and glasses (sorry, never caught his name or I’d give personal kudos!). They have an unassuming, unpretentious attitude when talking with customers which makes you feel comfortable asking for assistance. Also they don’t mind if you take your time browsing and they don’t bother you if you don’t ask for help which is nice when you just want to grab something quickly.
Prices are average to less than average for the same brands at other shops.
The parking lot is kind of bad: A high curb and not much room for maneuvering. Someone backed into my car as I was pulling into the lot one time because he had his music blaring and couldn’t hear me leaning on my horn. Needless to say, I usually try to remember to approach Ye Old in a flanking manner by driving down Third Ave and parking adjacent to the building in the street, which seems safer.
I give Ye Old 4 rather than 5 stars mainly because of the parking situation. Also, no offense and obviously it is kind of a gritty neighborhood package store, but some of the clientele is a bit sketchy or unkempt looking. I only say this with the intention of notifying someone who may not have been there so they know what to expect, not to judge the people who shop there, because obviously I’m one of them and it’s in my neighborhood. I’m not even suggesting that anyone should trek from towns away to visit Ye Old. It’s not going to blow your mind (unless there’s no other place that will order your Deschutes Black Butte Porter from Bend, Oregon and you really need your fix). But for me it’s the go to place in West Haven to procure my adult beverages.

Great place and nice people. If I ask for an alcohol that I do not see, they will actually order it for me! I love this place! I have also gotten some drink recipes from them and the drinks were amaze-​balls!!!
