The Whisky has the best national acts and now the Ultimate Jam is there every Tuesday night. We love hanging out there because of its history and because you can see the best live music LA has to offer. The bartenders are great, drinks are strong and security is always polite and friendly. Hands down one of my favorite places to hang in LA.

It’s the Whisky — what can you say? It’s a classic, and timeless, same as it was 30 years ago. You love it or you don’t, but it is what it is. Hope it sticks around at least another 30 years. Great memories here…

The door security are so rude and miserable. You come out fora good time and they treat you like shit coming in. Puts a damper on the night. Miserable human beings!!!

I love this landmark venue! I went to so many shows over the years and the place is still the same. I spoke with the owners of the venue and they have reassured me that the club will remain open and just as it is for generations to come. This comment meant a lot to me since so many venues and historical locations are either being demolished or revamped. But not the Whisky! Go Team Whisky! The photo I posted here was on my trip to LA in March 2015 where I went with two friends to the show just to stroll down memory lane …

Smaller than I would have expected, but the sound was excellent. Weird guidelines about keeping pathways clear, despite the immense crowd, but the security guys were nice, so it was okay. Drinks were expensive at $ 8 for well and not nearly strong enough. Watery, even. I’d go back for the tours and get drunk beforehand. Then supplement with beers inside.

I love this place. My friend(s) hate this place. It’s a rock & roll and punk music hangout. Lots of hour long concerts for average $ 20 plus drinks. I have to return for a lot concerts and drinking. I always say that, but I’ll really have to call a cab and just be roll with the night.

As an avid concert goer this venue is obviously one I had been dying to attend for years. I went to see the band Fleshgod Apocalypse. I loved that the venue is rather small with both an upstairs and a downstairs. It was a sold out show so it was packed. Downstairs got completely full but if you don’t want to be in the pit area you can just go upstairs and still get a great view of the stage. Upstairs is a bar with a few beer and liquor selections. I enjoy craft beer so I was disappointed that they didn’t offer a larger selection of beer. Their best offer was a Blue Moon. I also liked that it is located on Sunset so you’re walking distance from other bars/restaurants/stores so if you have time to kill before a show or want to save some money and grab a drink somewhere else that is an option.

I’m here at the very least once a month for a concert. It’s an amazing venue that has been a foot-in-the-door for many big names in the rock and roll universe.

I’ve only been to the Whisky a handful of times over the years and I’ve always had a good time. Its place in rock n roll history alone makes it a venue worth seeking out and its ability to endure on The Sunset Strip has truly been amazing. It is a bit grungy and worn but hey, if you’ve been around as long and seen all it’s seen you’d be a little haggard too. My most recent visit there was to see an old 70s heavy metal act called Satan(the night before Easter Sunday, natch), and the sound and the lighting were all good. The security and bartending staff were all cordial and chill and my friends and I had a good time. I was so tired by the end of the evening I sat in one of the reserved booths at the back but nobody chased me off. It was pretty close to closing time, after all. Anyhoo, I’m always game to see a show at the Whisky. STEPHJUDGEMENT: Historic venue that’s still and active part of The Sunset Strip.

Another historic piece of LA’s rock n’ roll history. The Whiskey is still an active music venue with shows most nights. It’s a dark and kinda grungy venue — the stage is set high so the visibility is great. Small space & standing room only. There’s a second level with a photo booth which is fun. Good place to drink beer after beer while watching a Van Halen cover band. Cover to get in is a bit pricey but it’s a cool place to visit on the Sunset Strip.

A long long time ago, I came here to check out live shows. I was but a young high school student from the south bay. All I knew was surfing, skating, and rock/metal music. Fast forward to a few years ago, I came here to see my cousin’s band play. He was the last band to play, and he did well. The crowd was more or less the same as I remembered it from my high school years. I came here earlier today to check out a band playing tribute to Pink Floyd. The start of their show was pretty good. The lighting and sound was on point. The songs they played brought back many good memories. The place was packed, it was hard to make your way around this place. But the experience was ok. There is an upstairs area for VIP. There is also reserved seating lining the back of the venue adjacent to the bar. Restrooms were clean, and the staff was friendly. My friend and I stayed for half the show, then took off for dinner. This place has not changed much in the past decade, but I’ll say that’s a good thing. If you’re a rock and metal enthusiast like me, then check this place out.

We got to come here, finally, after living in LA our entire lives, to see our son and his band perform twice. The original home of the Go-Go Dancer… no Go-Go-Dancers on either visit. Oh well. We always sit upstairs, and that can be pretty uncomfortable at those tables, trying to see downstairs to the stage below. But well worth it seeing our son, a huge Hendrix fan, fulfilling a dream come true. Security is good, each person is individually screened through at the door. The older set, like ourselves, don’t have to feel out of place with the much younger crowd standing downstairs in front of the stage. Parents and other family members of the various bands performing, are, for the most part, seated upstairs watching with pride. You can almost feel the Hendrix/Morrison rock history vibe of past years gone by.

The Whisky is about what you would expect from a place called The Whisky A Go Go except there wasn’t much Go Go and more Whisky than anything! This venue is a part of history if your a music lover and a fan of The Doors, Alice Cooper, & Motley Crew to name a few as this was pretty much their starting point place. The venue it self is alright I’ve been here twice over the years and both times I’ve seen security be excessively rude and hostile to pretty much everyone and this last visit was no exception as I watched them grab one of our friends from stage left and quickly usher her out of the venue simply because she had a drink on the floor. Apparently that’s not allowed and none of us were aware of this a simple notice from security would have done a lot less damage than throwing someone out! This venue is nothing special anymore it’s run down and run by rude people who could careless about the patrons who visit the venue, I say this as the previous visit of mine I believe I was also thrown out for something completely retarded and wasn’t able to play with the band I was in. The venue has overpriced drinks and some food if your going to come here and watch some music but that’s really it as there nothing special about either or so take your risk with the two. The venue offers valet parking out front for a somewhat decent price but I’d seek out street parking as it’s a bit cheaper and sometimes free if it’s on select days! Overall I really don’t see a reason to come here again for a show or an event as I really feel this place is not so great anymore and the history is only what’s keeping it alive!

The world famous Whisky a Go Go. I am so happy that I finally got to experience this historic venue on the Sunset Strip. I came in here on a Friday night(September 25th) and Lynch Mob were playing. I missed the opening bands but that didn’t matter(I don’t know the opening bands anyway.). The guy at the ticket booth said it was $ 25 in but I was hesitant so he put it down to $ 15. Legend! ;D The sound in this place is absolutely amazing, 10⁄10. However drinks are pricey. I had no real complaints though as I was on vacation. If you love rock and metal music like me, then I highly recommend checking out the Whisky.

History alone in this place just makes me like it that much more. The Whisky is such a cool venue. Too bad I don’t get to make it here too often, as they don’t get a lot of acts that I am a big fan off. But when an artist I like comes through I always try to make here. So its LA and its Sunset so expect that drinks are gonna run you between $ 5-$ 10 depending on what you are drinking. That comes with going to shows in most venues around LA so I really don’t let that affect my review. The venue is a smaller toned down venue with pretty much a great view from no matter where you are at. Except that support beam right in the middle of the dance floor. But you have to keep the building standing to enjoy the place right? The ghosts that haunt this place from all the amazing acts that have come and gone through here give it an amazing feel. If the walls could talk oh the stories they would tell. I know that sounds really cliché but its the honest truth about the way the Whisky makes me feel. CHEERS!

A buddy of mine had scored tickets to a performance by Krokus at this location, and invited me to join him. Not really my scene, but I figured«eh, what the hell, it’s free — why not, right?» I ended up having a better time than I expected. Krokus turned out to provide quite the impressive and lively show for their audience, as did the two bands opening for them. The security personnel at the venue were pretty easy to deal with, as they were friendly enough in my encounters with them, and their cursory pat-down for weapons at the door did not encroach into molestation-territory. The structure’s air-conditioning system seems to be quite solid, as the atmosphere within never quite hit«sweltering» levels, despite the occupancy level being pretty much at the maximum. Parking options in the area are admittedly at a premium — I parked about a block away at the structure at 9000 Sunset for $ 10.

My buddy and I came here to check out John 5& the Creatures. It’s a pretty decent venue to check out local new bands, obscure bands, former has been bands, or soon to be has been bands. You might catch some up and coming bands but I don’t think place has produced any decent acts lately like they used to in the past. It’s been ages since I’ve been to the club scene on Sunset Strip but Whisky has always been the place for metal and rock bands. It almost seemed like you had to wear some leather and spikes to be in this club. Not quite that way anymore but this place will always be known as the place of metal music. The venue isn’t that large and gets crowded by the mosh pit area. If you don’t want to get caught up in the madness, go upstairs and sit at a table. I thought there would be a food and drink minimum for sitting at a table but no one came to check on us. I believe there’s a two drink minimum if you sit at one of the tables or booths downstairs. Food is mostly bar food like burgers and fries. There wasn’t any table service upstairs so we had to order directly from the bar and wait about 15 minutes to check on our food. They didn’t bring out the food to the table either. We had to go up to the bar every once in a while to see if our food was ready. They just place it on the edge of the bar with your name on it. The food is nothing to rave about but wasn’t bad for bar food. Everything is straight forward, no modifications or customization. All burgers are cooked well done. No option for rare or medium rare. My friend ordered cheeseburger & fries and I ordered a turkey burger & fries. They were both very standard tasting but certainly acceptable, especially when you haven’t eaten anything for 8 hours. Not sure how they work the lines here but there’s one side for people with actual tickets and another with computer printouts(will call I guess) but they let the people in will call line go in first. Not sure if this is what they always do but worked out in our favor since we just had computer printouts. Unfortunately it was still about an hour after we were suppose to be let in so the whole show started really late. We got really frustrated waiting for all the opening bands to finish, but it was all worth it to watch John 5 shred on his Telecaster. It definitely was an awesome show, although I don’t think I’ll stay out this late on a weeknight. I felt like a zombie the following morning. If you come early you may find some street parking. Otherwise you will have to park in one of the paid parking lots. It’s freakin expensive too. I paid $ 15 to park right by the club, which was almost as much as the cost of the ticket.
