The France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center is located at 355 S Martin Jischke Dr, on Purdue University’s campus. I recently visited this state of the arch fitness center and was fascinated by all of the things it has to offer. The CoRec has nine basketball courts, an indoor hockey rink, an indoor track, a massive weight room, a swimming pool, saunas, locker rooms, rock climbing walls, a smoothie bar and all of the cardiovascular machines one could imagine. Also, they offer classes and inter mural sport opportunities to ensure that Purdues students are staying active. The fitness center has a clean feel to it and a large staff of employees who are always on their feet looking to help customers. One thing that I disliked about the rec center is their hours. They’re open from 5:30am-12pm on weekdays, 8am-12pm on Saturday and 10am-12pm on Sunday. As the only fitness center on such a populated campus it would make more sense to be open 24 hours like the previous rec center that was torn down. Additionally, I noticed a problem where gyms were all filled up and kids were sitting on the sides of the gym waiting to play. I noticed this problem again in the weight room where all the machines were occupied which interfered with people’s work outs. I highly recommended visiting the CoRec if you have the access, as it has state of the arch fitness equipment. Overall, I enjoyed the co rec and think it has everything and more that an individual needs to stay active but at times it becomes crowded.

Probably one of the most well equipped gyms I’ll ever use. They recently got a lot of new equipment(cables/crossfit rig) and they are planning I heard to expand the amount of squat racks and platforms. It can be a little busy during peak times but that’s expected. Lots of classes, groups, and programs to take advantage of.

Great, but stay away from the climbing wall. Employees will yell at you and watch you like a hawk for«safety» violations, though they could never explain why you are being unsafe. Bad vibes. Go to Climb Lafayette instead if you’re into climbing. Otherwise, great facilities and classes.

I’m adding on a star after hearing about the rec center at the university of Kentucky from my girlfriend. We really do have the best rec center in the big 10.

They tore down the former CoRec and built this abomination on top of it. It opens at 5:30 during the week, 8 on Saturday, 10 on Sunday. Absolutely ridiculous hours, especially on the weekends, considering it used to be 24hrs. The layout is a jumbled mess. They’re so caught up in «preserving the equipment» they have people patrolling 24/7(well more like 14⁄5) to tell you which rule you’re breaking. Its best not to touch the machines, back up slowly, and find a fitness facility that actually encourages good health. Very disappointed, you’d think renovations would be an improvement. A perfect tribute to France Cordova, though.
