As promised in my first review, back in town and back a the A La Carte Café for dinner. If they were located in my area, I’d be there every week tasting the specials! We ordered each special and were not disappointed! So yummy that we exchanged plate half way so we could each get a little taste of both dishes. Owners and staff are always warm and friendly. Everything is a great experience. This time, the smoked catfish appetizer was recommended and super yummy! Open for dinner from 5 – 8.

This place is a great place for lunch in West Plains if you have the time. There are plenty of healthy options, and it tastes fresh. I’ve eaten there twice, and the food always tastes great. But both times I’ve been there, they were having issues of some sort. The first time they were running super behind because they has a crowd that they were not prepared for, and the second time that I was there, they were out of the first two things I tried to order. Both times I ended up with good food, but it took a while. The staff is super friendly, the food is great, and I will probably continue going there when I have longer for lunch. It’s a great place, and I love what they are trying to do.

West Plains has a great new lunch option. The A La Carte Café is located in the adorable Court Square, across from the Howell County Courthouse. It features locally sourced food and offers a surprising variety of healthy lunch options. It is run by a family of very friendly, passionate people. They also have local music here on Friday nights. I’m not going to lie, I was very pleasantly surprised to see such a healthy lunch option in a small town. Unfortunately, the A La Carte Café was slammed the day I went for lunch. The people who run this place are kind of in over their heads(or at least it appeared that way when I was there). We had to wait almost 40 minutes for our food. I ordered a drink with my meal, and after 30 minutes of waiting I finally went up to the counter and asked for it. By the time our food came, my dining companion had literally three minutes to cram her sandwich down her throat before she had to leave. That does not make for a pleasant dining experience. The food, however, was good. I had the chicken gyros(which were on special) and it came with a fruit cup. The two small gyros came on a wheat tortilla with grilled chicken, feta, olives and red onions. The tzatziki sauce was obviously house made and delicious. My friend ordered a sandwich that came with delicious Italian-style potato salad. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the type of sandwich she had(possibly egg salad), but it was tasty. Their website recommends that you call your order in ahead of time«in the morning» so they have enough time to make it. I’m afraid that’s not a viable business option. You need to accommodate the people who walk in to your café, too(and in less than 40 minutes). I really really hope the A La Carte Café irons out their new-business-kinks, because this has the potential to be an amazing place that offers wonderful locally sourced food.
