Great product, many options, extremely fresh and a courteous staff. Been coming here for over a year and always happy with what ever I get. Staff recommends various ways to prepare fish. I also eat hear on occasion or bring home prepared meals.

I’ve been going to Westfield Seafood for about 20 years, ever since I decided to try every fish recipe in Pierre Franey’s «Low-Calorie Gourmet.» This is the essential store for anyone who loves seafood or for anyone who wants to learn to love it(as I did). I grew up on frozen fish, so the fish here was a revelation. Although I mostly prepare the fish myself, to control the calories, I’ve also tried a number of their prepared dishes and enjoyed them very much. The pumpkin seafood bisque, in the fall, has been a big family favorite. The staff have always been helpful about what’s good and how to cook it… but it helps to be nice to them, they don’t respond well to grouches. Vince, the owner, goes to Fulton Fish Market daily to get fresh fish. My nephew is a fishmonger in Minneapolis(first at Coastal Seafood, now his own restaurant) and we once visited all the fish stores within striking distance of Westfield. According to him, and from what I could see for myself, Westfield Seafood is head and shoulders above anything near by.

I am a newbie to cooking fish at home and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They explained to me the differences in flavor, gave me tips how to cook it, and were all around really pleasant. Yes, its a little pricey… but the fish is fresh and when it comes to quality you get what you pay for! I also bought a really yummy butter compote with herbs that went perfectly with the fish. I’ll be back!

I used to work in a fish market; so I was right at home when I came to Westfield Seafood for the first time. They have a nice selection with both prices and freshness both very reasonable. I got sick from something I ate here but it was because I didn’t cook it through, so not passing the blame. I would come back again.

Employees of a very well known doctors office in Westfield called in an order for pick-up(fairly large order) and the woman/girl who took the order on the phone was extremely rude in every way possible! When the order was picked up, one order was missing and we had to wait for it to be done and the man there was also not the most customer friendly. Food was ok, but we will not be ordering from there again and they won’t be getting any positive word of mount from anyone here!

The food is good– fresh and that’s all you should want when buying seafood. Not a fan of the lobster salad, missing something. I will agree with previous customer on service. The majority of the staff is friendly, one person is not. I opened the door at 11:59 on a Sunday and got in line. Someone took my order. Then a staff member walked loudly past me and put some sign on the door and as they walked back behind the counter, came up behind me and said now were open. I found it absurd. I came in a minute early but the door was unlocked. I wasn’t in there twenty minutes early waiting or banging to get in. Haven’t been back since and won’t.

The clam chowder had too many onions and hardly and potatoes and clams. Yuck! The staff was rude and didn’t want to help in selecting a fish. Don’t bother with this place.

This is one of the best places to buy fresh fish. The bad thing about it is that they have some employees are not very friendly, they do not listen to the customer. These employees are embittered faces.

This is hands down the best and freshest place to buy seafood in the Westfield area. Everything is super fresh — their salmon, shrimp, fresh seafood salads are all amazing. Plus they make their own seafood bisques and chowders and will cook lobsters for you, fresh to order. Just wonderful. LOVETHISPLACE.

Holy cats, do I love this place. They get their fish fresh from the Fulton Fish Market early every morning. You can either buy fish to cook at home or get pre-prepared food. I’ve only ever ordered the prepared food, which is totally excellent. They cook your food in about fifteen minutes(no delivery, so you do have to pick it up). It’s perfect for quick dinner when you’re in a hurry or have someone coming over. We get the battered shrimp and tilapia, which costs a little under thirty bucks and is good for a dinner and a lunch for four people.

It’s a fish store with a take out kitchen(no seating). The quality of the fish is excellent and you can tell it’s fresh. The staff is helpful & pleasant. The kitchen makes great sandwiches & platters ~ the Scallop Melt and the Swordfish Whoop-de-doo sandwiches are my favorites! They give you a side of cole slaw, tartar sauce & cocktail sauce. We’ve gone there for many years. If you’re coming from Cranford or Garwood, it’s right before the Westfield Train Station on the right ~ easy to miss. They should create a website, but Westfield Patch has photos & other info(hours)… here is the link:
The May 2011 review by Gerry C is disturbing… although she said she’d been going there for years and the fish was fine, she gave a rating of only 1 star because she was ignored when she entered the store… I wonder if it’s possible that the staff didn’t hear her come in? When they’re cooking in the kitchen, it’s loud behind the counter. After 30 seconds of any merchant not noticing a customer, the customer should say(fairly loudly) «Hi there». Their reaction(s) would tell you if they had an attitude problem. I’ve never had that problem at Westfield Seafood.

I disagree about the customer service. I have always been greeted with a smile and treated very well. And the fish is great.

Sitting near the Westfield NJ Transit station is a little gem that you could blink and miss if you were driving by. Westfield Seafood is a small, rectangular building along South Avenue with a parking lot in front. Its exterior is painted blue and white, colors you’d expect from a store selling seafood. Inside the store is set up much like a butcher shop. There are refrigeration units where friendly staff take your orders, cashiers to the side and a nice big tank of lobsters. The other side has freezer units where you can get everything from frozen calamari to frozen crab legs. They also have pre-prepared foods such as seaweed salad, lobster salad and stuffed peppers, yum! Today I ordered black bass for a dish I’m trying out. It wasn’t cheap, but nor was the quality of the fish. This fish smelled fresh and cooked so much nicer than defrosted fish I’ve purchased elsewhere. Best of all, they left the skin on, which was exactly what my recipe called for. When done, the fish was juicy, plump and flaked apart perfectly. On my next trip, I’m hoping to try out some of their prepared foods as I saw a whole functioning kitchen behind the counter!

There’s always a great selection of the freshest fish and shellfish by the pound. They also prepare food to go in their kitchen, with lunch specials, plus good salads – seafood, lobster, crab, macaroni, several kinds of potato, cole slaw, etc., and homemade soups and stocks. All the salads are made from scratch, except the wakame seaweed salad. The dry scallops that I bought here today cooked up nicely, and tasted very fresh. They have unusual items sometimes, too. I once got fresh opah(Pacific moonfish) here. Prices are not cheap, but, you generally get what you pay for.
