The previous reviewer is right, it *is* tough to enroll your students in this school — if they are elementary students. The school is trying to build enrollment for junior and senior high students, so don’t be put off if you have an older student. My children have been students at The Academy since our oldest was in kindergarten(she’s starting high school in the fall.) We lucked out when we enrolled her, because we reached out early; we are an out-of-district family, and we knew we had to move swiftly if we wanted her enrolled here. So, I reached out two years before she was ready to start school to waitlist her. This was back when K-12 was in one building at the old Mapleton High School, and a LOT has changed since then. Now, pre-K and early elementary(K-2) are in their own building near the DeVry campus, and 3 – 12 is housed off Lowell. The new buildings are VERY nice, and classrooms all have Promethean smart-boards. This *is* a great school for elementary students. They focus on core knowledge, and students are encouraged to achieve. Our son is a 3rd grader who is currently enrolled in 5th grade math! Junior/Senior High is still in a growth mode. You won’t find the selection of extracurriculars available at public schools, but there are plenty of options. Class sizes are small, so it’s easy for students to get extra help and personalized education. The teachers and staff are also doing better with staying in touch with parents than they have in the past. Don’t be put off by fears of the waitlist. Reach out early to improve your chances of getting your child enrolled, just like any other charter!
