I had my wedding here in December 2015. Chu Dong went out of his way to help me get my favorite green color ribbons for the chairs. As many weddings, lots of guest didn’t rsvp, but attended. The extra tables and chairs I had was not enough. Chu Dong was so nice to make quick adjustments by adding more tables in or I would have been very embarrassed and frustrated. One of the things he said that I’m very grateful for is, «don’t worry, just enjoy. I’ll take care it.» My wedding was fun and a success all thanks to my wonderful bridesmaids, groomsmen, and of course Chu Dong.

This is a PSA(public service announcement)!!! Please do not host your events of any sort here!!! I’m an event planner and I’ve worked at MANY venues… I can honestly say that I’ve now done one at the Grand Garden and I will NEVER do another event here again… a couple couldn’t pay me enough to work here again. The management team at this restaurant is horrific and doesn’t care about their customers… they don’t care about what you like or envision for you wedding, they turn everything down. It was suppose to rain during the wedding I worked and the couple had booked a photobooth… the manager told us to have the photobooth company to bring a tent ‘and umbrellas, he refused to let the photobooth into his restaurant! His reasoning was that it’s «illegal» to have a photobooth in a restaurant! I was like WTF?! I’ve worked hundreds of weddings and I’ve NEVER had anyone tell me that! After much«debate» we got him to agree to have the photobooth indoors. During the vendor set-up time, the management team hovered over everyone and acted as if we’re all amateurs and that we’re out to destroy his restaurant. The clients had paid for pin spot lighting and he told us it wasn’t needed and that we can’t set it up only because he wanted us to only use his lighting. Again, I had to fight him on it and told him that it had been paid for and that setting up lights did not hurt his venue in any way shape or form. Vendor meals: usually vendors are given some sort of meal during the reception… at this venue, they told us they didn’t want to give us a vendor table for us to put our stuff down, they said they will put our food in to-go boxes and we can eat it standing! That made me sooo mad! Does he realize how hard all of us vendors work all day?! our job doesn’t start when we arrive at his venue! He reluctantly agreed to give us a small table, but when it was time to give us our meals, they ended up throwing it on the floor in some corner… they couldn’t even put it on our table! During dinner service, his staff had removed the centerpieces and table numbers and put them away somewhere. When it came time to clean up, I was given only 1⁄3 of the framed table numbers back. When I asked the owner where the rest were, he looked and me and said«how am i suppose to know?!» I told him that his staff had cleared the tables and now I would like to get the personal items back for the client, his response to me was«well if they cleared it then go ask them where they put it, it has nothing to do with me.» AGAIN, WTF kind of answer is that?! Needless to say, they were never recovered and the guy could care less. Overall, they just have BAD customer service… sure it’s cheap to have your reception here, but it’s not fair to make your vendors work with such tyrants. You honestly get what you pay for. Do yourself and your vendors and favor and look for another venue to book your event at… i guarantee you’ll be so much happier then having your event here.

I had my wedding reception here a while back. Many people told me how great the food was. I didn’t get to eat it but I tasted the appetizer and it was awesome. Overall the experience was good. I liked that the restaurant was already decorated with real and fake flowers and all, so I saved some $ from doing that. This restaurant is specialized in weddings and events. I did not see if they have lunch or dinner specials. I went there once for dinner, ordered lobster and all their lobsters were over 5 pounds or so. It was an expensive dinner. The food was awesome though. Can’t complain about the food. It’s just not your regular dining place since it’s kind of on the high end.

Brides, if u want to save yourselves from tears of frustration and save your groom from going to jail for punching the hell out of someone in the face, AVOIDTHISPLACE!!! My fiancé and I were looking for a venue for our wedding and we stumbled upon this place. Though we were somewhat pessimistic from all the negative reviews, we stayed open minded and gave this place a try. We called the night before asking if the day of our venue was available, the manager assured us it was. We came around lunch time on a Sunday and the restaurant was dead empty(already a sign!). The manager was rude and arrogant right from the gecko. He told us to sit and literally SLAMMED3 albums that were filled with pictures of receptions that were no more recent than the early 2000s on the table and told us to look through them. While we did that, he bragged about how rich and successful he is(umm good for you sir!) Maybe he’s so rich he doesn’t need anymore business from this restaurant. I asked what types of decors were included and if I could request specific colors. His response was«ITDEPENDS! You don’t know until he day of» I then asked if I could replace the purple drapes that they had hanging with pink ones. Again, «ITDEPENDS on the day of». One more shot, I asked if a cake was included in the dinner packages. U guessed it, «ITDEPENDS!» What the f$ck do you mean? Depends on what??? If the dam cake fairy comes??? The deal is this: he brags about his restaurant being contemporary and«Vegas style». They do provide decorations, but it is to THEIR liking on the day of, not yours. You will be just as surprised as your guests will be on the day of your reception. Is that what we’ve all dreamt of, brides??? The decorations, flowers, colors, etc all depend on whatever they have that day. Your wedding theme might be pink but if they’re in the mood to make the dam place lime green and black on the day of, that’s what you’re stuck with. Happy wedding! Oh, let’s cross our fingers that it’s one of those good days where you will get a cake… He even said«California Is in a drought. You might not even get flowers. I might have to cut the bamboos in the front of the restaurant for centerpieces». Anyways, it takes a lot for me to write a review and I only write bad ones when it’s extremmmmmely bad. I don’t write good ones because I’m lazy, but I do spread the word lol Avoid this place at all costs!!! They will not cater to your needs. I have no idea how they even got some of these positive reviews. BULLDOOKEY! Oh by the way, he creeps me out. He sticks his tongue out like a lizard reaching for an extremely fat fly at the end of his setenses every so often.

I had my wedding reception here and I could not have been more pleased. Working with Uncle Don(not my real uncle but treated me like family) it was too easy. Restaurant is beautiful no need to worry about flowers and decorations it was all included. If your picky about your flowers you have the option to bring your own. The menu was amazing everyone loved the food. I could not stop hearing good things about how huge and tasty the lobster was and the peking duck. Everyone had a good time eating drinking and dancing. What else could the bride and groom ask for. Thank you Uncle Don and the amazing courteous staff you made my wedding so very special.

This place caters to weddings and small events-about 300 people max. Food(4⁄5): typical Chinese but consistently taste well. You can have foods cater but sometimes the food taste good, other times terrible. This place is consistently good. Yes, they use msg, but so are the others. Walnut shrimps, fried rice, fry fish, etc… Ambiance: 5⁄5 the decorations are great. For weddings or small events, guests can save money on flowers and decorations, since the restaurants provide all of these. The decorations are classy and good taste. Service: 4⁄5 decent service with waiters who are well trained to keep the tables clean and mess free. Cost:4/5 large portions for slightly higher prices Clean: 3.5÷5 decent Parking: 4⁄5 private lots but gets busy in weekend. Safe. Overall: 4.5÷5 I am leaning toward 5 due to ambiance and decent food. You can really save money in the long run with what they provide. A hidden gem among many restaurants in Little Saigon.

My wedding reception was held here! It was such an amazing time that my husband and I would never forget! Our wedding was small(less than 20 tables), but Mr. Don Pham made it look huge and gorgeous party. Since our wedding was full of DIY projects, he helped us arranged stuff and let us came early to prepare. He gave us such many good advice. Our guests really liked the food and service here. I used the centerpieces that this place offered to be borrowed, so I saved lot of money for the flowers. I loved everything here. The location might be a little hard to find but everything else worth to try!

I attended my friend’s wedding here during the weekend. It’s a really hard restaurant to find. At first, I wasn’t sure if the place existed since it’s tucked in the corner. It looks like there’s small Vietnamese shops but the corner is cut off by a small street leading it to the restaurant. Parking is confusing as well. I wasn’t sure if I could park in the area near all the other stores because some shopping centers tow you if you stay longer than 2 hrs. I don’t think they do but I’d rather be safe than sorry. They have parking in the back of the restaurant but it’s so dimly lit. Kinda of scary if you’re going to your car by yourself. Once you enter the restaurant, it’s like you’re taken to another world. It’s nicely decorated although some parts look fobby. Overall the décor is very nice. The food is average. Standard wedding food. There’s a pic of the menu on the Unilocal page. Lots of MSG in the food. Service is okay. I think this restaurant is catered for only wedding events and they have everything already set up.

I got married here on 12/2014, and we loved it. Yes this is the typical spots for asians/vietnamese weddings but who can beat great chinese food and a not so chinese looking banquet room right? Free Uplights, Free soda, Bring your own beer/liquor w/o corking fee? large parking lot, w/o having to valet? Who could say NO right? Great prices for the food that feeds 10 and people still had left overs to bring home… Chu Dong made this so easy for us, we ran our ideas over with him and all we heard was SURE, OK, YES, and luckily that was how it ended up! The guest loved the food, no one felt rushed to eat, the servers weren’t overbearing or taking away dishes before they were finished. Vendors had no problem coming in /out to set up, We Are So happy we booked our wedding here!

This place is hidden away in a dirt cheap plaza. I went here hoping to be served like a human being. I was met with contempt and an «I don’t care» attitude. The manager really didn’t care that vendors are people too. I don’t think he realizes that our recommendation could help his exposure. There’s a good space here, as a vendor it’s definitely on my black list of place to have a wedding reception.

I just had my wedding here this past weekend and all I can say is my wife, all our guests, and I had a great time! Although the venue is hidden in the back of a strip mall, it’s a diamond in the rough! Food: Plentiful, amazing, and very reasonably priced! Our guests took all the left-overs! Environment: They provide all the flowers and decorations. They worked very well with our vendors and all in all, were great! Management: Don is a really nice guy as long as you treat him the way you want to be treated. When he says he’ll take care of you, he will! We had some issues come up with alcohol and making sure no one under the age drank and we both(my guests and his team) made sure that was enforced. Some of the reviews will have some not so nice comments, but like I said, if you treat him well, he will treat you well! Cost: The venue is the most affordable place we looked at and the quality was amazing! Also, you can bring your own alcohol and just pay a small fee to have a bartender pour the drinks. If you have your reception there, you will have a great time! I know I did!

I came here this past weekend for my friend’s wedding. I was in charge of setting up the flowers. When we got there, it was already decorated. Which is a plus for anyone who wants to save money and not spend it on décor. But the bride specifically said she wanted to tone down the décor a bit and setup her own centerpieces. Anyhow, when we showed up with our flowers, this lady from management decides to put our stuff to the side underneath a table. Absurd. We ended up asking them to remove their flowers(which weren’t nice anyways) so we can put ours. The restaurant is contracted with a florist so they can’t remove any décor they have up. Since they have red, yellow, purple, orange, and white flowers up. You really just have to work with what they got. Food was meh. Management needs work. Servers were friendly. Location HARDDD to find. Located in the corner. You can’t see it from the streets. You will see a large plaza and a Bank of America. Turn in the lot and drive until you reach a corner. And there it is. Two stars was because the servers were on top of their game.

This review is from the bride! I just want to say I LOVE everything here! Don is one of the best manager I have ever met. He definitely made our wedding a dream come true. Everything was perfect; from the centerpiece, to the set-up, and to the food. EVERYTHING! He even went out of his way to make sure we came home safely, being drunk and all. I just cannot thank him enough. Before the wedding, we were extremely nervous about the restaurant because people/vendors were telling us how much they do not like the restaurant. So as a bride, I was already feeling the anxiety and the stress of that day. Therefore, my husband and I kept coming back to the restaurant and talking to Don about our arrangements and what we wanted exactly(because of the talks). Nevertheless, Don calmed us down and reassure us that everything will be beautiful. We trust him and. … WOW! Just Wow! Everything was indeed BEAUTIFUL. I just want to say, I regret letting the ‘talks’ get to me because it overshadow our trust in Don. Nevertheless, he came through for us and we could not have been happier. There is a reason why this restaurant last so long, and it’s because of Don that made it a legacy. Out of all the restaurant that I have been to, this will always be my favorite, not because my wedding was there, but because of the people and the service. Grand Garden all the way! Royal, you are too expensive. Furiwa, why do i need to put out more money to decorate your restaurant? Mon Cheri, I feel empty without music or at least provide the speakers. GRANDGARDEN the perfect restaurant for any special occasion.

Every time I come here, it’s usually for special events and parties, so I can’t say much about the normal dining experience here. However, I do find that the food is alright. There are some standout dishes, like the shaken beef and steamed fish over tofu. I used to love the shrimp and walnuts, but after a couple of times having stale walnuts in the dish, I’ve lost all love for the dish at this restaurant. The waiters are really nice and efficient, so if you weigh service heavily in deciding where to eat, Grand Garden might be a good option for you. Most people rent out the restaurant for wedding receptions and parties, especially because there’s a dance floor in the middle of the restaurant, and it’s not a bad venue at all. Like other reviewers have said, the decorations are not tacky in the least and there are plenty of flowers everywhere in the restaurant. If you need a venue for an event with good service and decent food, I recommend coming here.

Great venue to have a banquet or wedding reception, however the location is a but hard to find. Its behind all these vietnamese food shops that are a bit dingy looking in the abc market plaza. But on the Inside the venue is nice. There’s little you have to do to dress up the interior with its cute little crystal chandeliers and decorations. There’s a small stage and dance floor inside as well. Don’t know if that can be moved around. Food is decent, like any other viet/Chinese restaurant. I enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp, fried fish with sweet and sour sauce and chicken.

So pretty. Attended a wedding here recently. Just the right amount of chandeliers and crystals. The décor in general was beautiful. I just hated the tacky pink lights they used. Not sure if the flowers belonged to the hall but it was all orchids and there was sooooooo much of it. I wondered because the workers took the centerpieces away when it was time for dinner and we never saw them again. I was so happy that they passed out hors d’oeuvres as we were waiting for the other guests to arrive. Some of us were starving. The food was not the best Chinese food I’ve ever had but quite good. Please beware. There is a very smiley but CREEPY older worker who kept pressing either his belly or his junk into my elbow every time he came to drop off or take away plates. My husband actually thought this was quite funny… ugghhh MEN.

Came here for a wedding reception. This place was hard to find… our GPS system took us down a neighborhood and said we had arrived as we were parked in front of one the houses. After calling and asking, we realized it was in the plaza behind the wall of this neighborhood — still you can’t see the restaurant because it’s tucked in the very back corner behind other buildings. We had lobster, fried sweet and sour fish, crab soup, walnut shrimp, cold platter appetizer dish, peking duck, fried rice, seafood birds nest and that’s all I can remember. Every item was pretty good. It’s a good venue to hold a big party but definitely too hard to find.

What made this visit so wonderful was our waiter. He was very attentive to all 25 of us across 3 different tables. Some of us needed hot tea n water w/lemon and he was super nice about gettin those for us. The food was also delicious, we ordered the shaken beef, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, something with chicken, and something else = P. The waiter was really good about keeping track of which tables ordered what. He recognized that we were college students in town for a leadership conference and refused to accept our tips. I mean refused profusely! Kind man with the glasses, thank you for making our meal so pleasant. Most of us were from out of state and you helped make their stay memorable. I hope you read this post and feel special to have made such a wonderful impression on all of us =) We will definitely try to come back!

My brother had a wedding here years ago and they did renovations since then that made the venue look much better. The décor and lighting is good for a wedding. Food is pretty good. Although, management and security are a bunch of dicks. I have never been to a venue so uptight for vendors. I Dj’d at this place for my good friend’s wedding. While setting up, a person from management gave me attitude and dirty looks. Real absurd. I had to yell at them. All I asked for was a table cloth for my 8 ft table that I brought to use for my turntables so that it would look better in pictures. They brought it over and just starred at me and made a disrespectful comment. Personally, I think they put money for renovations(inside and out) and lighting that they are real particular with any setup around their equipment, which is fine, but don’t be rude. No one wants any liabilities. I was ready to pack up my equipment. I was less tolerable to put up with crap this day since I was doing this as a favor FREE of charge, took 3 trips from my car to the restaurant to move my gear, drenched in sweat, and having to figure out how to configure the stage space due to all the gear that was already set up by the emcee/band(double the equipment I had). The Emcee saw what happened and told me he did not like that same person because he was giving them crap for everything. Although, I think the waiters knew about their boss, and were very nice to us. They had empathy. Thank you to the waiters. Also, I noticed they kept moving the ice bucket and turning certain glasses in a particular position the whole night. Anyone that has been to an Asian wedding knows how many times the ice bucket gets passed around. That was one small observation that we thought was weird. Just gives an idea on how particular this place is. If you attend it may not matter. If you are paying them to have your wedding here, perhaps they will be very nice to you and I wish the best of luck. However, this experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I would never have my wedding here. ***Check out«Mon Cheri”***Nice venue with uplights and the floor is more spread out.

I’ve been here multiple times for wedding receptions and it’s just the typical asian type of wedding foods. I enjoy the food here, just as I do other asian wedding dinner reception foods. But this review is strictly for a day my extended family visited from the East Coast and we decided to have a fancy schmancy lunch here for a party of 20 because it was also in celebration of a 10 year anniversary as well. Sunday afternoon about 1pm and we walked in. It was empty and they were actually preparing for a wedding reception later on that evening. We were seated immediately as there was a long table towards the corner front of the restaurant, which perfectly sat all of us surprisingly; it was like they knew we were coming even though none of us had called to make reservations, lol. We had brought an anniversary cake to cut for dessert and the guy working took it for us. They took our orders, which was one of the sets that came with different items from their menus into a combo type of thing(kind of like the weddings how they have certain food items coming out one after the another). Food came out in a really good amount of time, considering we had ordered so much for our party. Everything was really really good. Customer service was over the top amazing! One of my relatives loved our server guy so much, he asked about his position so he could praise him on it! Turns out he was the manager of the restaurant and he was wonderful! Food was great, service was great. To top it off, the cake that he took when we brought it in? It was placed in the middle of the restaurant dance floor on the table that the bride/groom’s wedding cake is normally placed. They used an actual cake table to put it in the middle for us and even had«Happy anniversary» with my uncle and aunt’s name on the big screen projector on the stage of the restaurant. So basically, the manager had just used the whole restaurant to cater to our lunch and went beyond our expectations. Definitely special treatment status. Another family actually came in midway of our lunch and they were treated the same way. And even then, he still catered to us and had all of us stand on the stage, placing/telling everyone where to stand so he could take pictures for all of us. After doing all of this special treatment stuff for us, he even took the cake back to our table and cut it for us. We never asked him to do any of this, nor did we expect this kind of service from here. We seriously just planned to eat here, take out the cake ourselves, cut it ourselves, but he really just took over and did it all, going above and beyond. Never really thought anything much of this place until this past visit and their manager’s service. I seriously have to say that this is one of the best asian restaurant’s service I’ve ever been to. Best management; super friendly, helpful, funny manager. Relatives from the East Coast were pretty damn impressed as well, which was a plus. Loved it! Good food, overly amazing service; that’s how you win me and my family over. We had a blast!
