We noticed the entrance for Standard Tacos & Margaritas during a stop at Standard Market and thought, why not? I congratulate myself on a great decision. We ordered the $ 9 Meal Deals(2 tacos, chips & salsa, cilantro rice, and refried beans) with fillings of rajas, al pastor, and chorizo. We were given chips and salsa to snack on while the tacos were made to order. Hot, fresh, homemade tortilla chips. Yum. The tacos did not disappoint, and the salsa bar was fantastic. Here is a list of the options from the salsa bar: — Hot — chile de árbol: Ok this was pretty spicy. It was good but not the favorite. — Medium — mango habanero: Oooh this one was sweet and spicy! A good kind of surprise in a salsa bar. chipotle chimichurri: Our favorite! Creamy and spicy with umami galore, this one is a winner. — Mild — pico de gallo: It was fresh. Safe choice for the less adventurous diner. roasted jalapeño: Creamy and spicy. A good choice if you want to mix up the flavors a little. verde tomatillo: A balanced salsa. For when you’re not in the mood for sweet or creamy flavors. salsa roja: Eh it’s ok. pickled vegetables: Ok I would come back just to eat this. The pickled cauliflower was amaaaazing! We thought the cilantro rice was a little salty, but the refried beans were right on target. It’s rare for refried beans to taste this good! Thanksgiving is right around the corner and our family is not very traditional about the holiday. Maybe we’ll have Standard Tacos & Margaritas this year…

Premium margarita pitcher was tasty. One cup had salt, the other didn’t. Okay next the tacos… please put more meat on them! We requested one order have no cilantro, but in that order they missed the chile verde sauce as well. Chips are greasy and too thick. The salsa that comes with it was tasteless. The rice, however, is tasty. No one bussed our table with four trays on it. Water available was bottled only. This was their BBQ style spot on the other side of the market. I’m sure they will change it to something else soon.

We can’t drive in the vicinity of Standard Market without stopping at Standard Tacos. I love their shrimp and tilapia taco meal. And, my husband was hooked when he saw the salsa bar! The prices are really reasonable, especially for the quality of food you get. It doesn’t get better than 2(really good) tacos, rice, beans, chips and salsa for $ 9! And, you can wash everything down with their margaritas and sangria.

This was my first time in Standard Tacos really enjoyed the shrimp tacos. They were nicely grilled and server with a creamy chipotle sauce on corn tortillas with slices of fresh avocado. My wife had the el pastor tacos which said were delicious. We ordered the tacos as a «meal deal“which came with cilantro rice and beans and a serving of freshly prepared tortilla chips. I thought the salsa bar was awesome. I liked every one I tried. I couldn’t resist trying a premium margarita when I saw it was the daily special. It was very good! I was told was made with Patron. According to the sign, it was the special of the day on Saturday and was supposed to be $ 6. I was really disappointed when I got home later, looked at my reciept and realized they charged me full price??? C’mon Standard Market?!! Can’t you program your daily specials into your POS system? If you wouldn’t have overcharged me you would have gotten five stars!

Pro’s: Fresh ingredients, good seasoning, and overall well made food. Con’s: Pricey for what you get. The tacos are small, which is ok but you buy them a la carte, so a grown man could easily eat 3. Overall I think the quality of ingredients trumps the price issue. I’m willing to pay a premium for good quality ingredients. There are more authentic Mexican places then this, but what do you expect for a restaurant annexed from an upscale grocery store. It’s worth a try.

Came here for the Wednesday special of $ 5 burrito bowls with steak, pork or chicken but the protein is a surcharge is $ 3. I ended up getting a steak taco and an al pastor taco with a small horchata. So good! A bit pricey at $ 9+ for a small meal but real good quality. The salsas are awesome and my favorite was the chipotle chimichurri! The tacos were well seasoned and the grilled pineapple on the al pastor was a nice touch. The tacos were really small and overpriced. It was $ 4 for my steak taco and $ 3 for the al pastor taco. The scoops of protein were skimpy. Will definitely be back for the taco Tuesday’s(2 for $ 5) or burrito Monday’s($ 5).

their steak tacos are AMAZING and for $ 4 their quesadillas are huge, I was expecting a single tortilla folded over but these are super filling. Also their staff is so polite and friendly. Super glad Westmont got a cool, quick stop for good tacos!

Can’t stop thinking about the tacos from this place! Our cousins took us here for dinner on our last trip to IL and this place did not disappoint. Steak tacos and shrimp tacos were on point, nicely seasoned, flavor is well balanced. Their roasted jalapeño salsa is also good! A bit on the pricey side compared to your traditional taqueria tacos here in California but well worth it!

Tried this place on whim because I saw it and I love tacos, so why not. My brother and I both got an order of shrimp and steak tacos and we both thought they were great. The shrimp was cooked with a really delicious red sauce that was really tasty, though I will say it came out cold. The steak tacos was pretty good, I think next time I’ll ask for no cheese, it was a weird cheese goo. I saw some people complained that they were too salty, but ours were not. I also really liked the tortillas they use. But my one complaint would be the prices, it is slightly expensive for Mexican food. I think they have been listening to people’s complaints because they now have free water. Also they have a great salsa bar with like 6 or 8 different salsas.

This is an improvement on the dreadful Standard BBQ they had outside last summer, but this isn’t really much to write home about. The flautas were filling and presented well, but all the flavor came from the sauces, not the ingredients. The sauces were pretty good though and there were several to choose from(pico, salsa, creamy jalapeño and I think something like a mango habanero). The elotes was actually on the cob and way too salty. Tried my wife’s taco and thought Meh. Most definitely better options out there, so it’s unlikely I’ll be coming back.

I had their chicken burrito on $ 5 Monday burrito night… so good. They grill the outside to give it a soft crunch… way better than chipotle. The guac was super fresh and my margarita was just as good as the expensive Mexican restaurants. The salsa bar was awesome. They had some very unique salsas. Try the creamy jalapeño. You can’t find this quality anywhere else. I think they sell the salsas in the store?

Just had our second taco meal there. This time the ready made from the store. Sorry to say I think it is just average at best. For what you get, what you pay and the quality just is not worth it. Have had the fish tacos, pork tacos, elote and all the sides. Sad to say just not worth it. Loved the BBQ when they had it.

So i was had super high hope for this place but it was very disappointing. The steak was very dry and it didnt come with much, very skinny for what I was paying for. The shrimp, over cooked and super skinny that honestly I was shock how much each one was. The only thing good was the tortilla as it was not as dry as the rest of the content.

Have dined here once, and taken very large to-go orders on two separate occasions. Each time — tacos have been fantastic & very authentic; also have had the burritos and quesadillas — both were excellent and true to type. Atmosphere is clean and tight like all that Standard does — the whole experience wears really well. Chips & guac were good — super crunchy and full bodied with guac that’s obviously very fresh; didn’t mind having to pay for it. Why 4 stars not 5? I’d like to seem them expand the menu a bit — they’re clearly talented at what they do; so let the chef’s stretch their legs a bit! I’ll be back…

Fail! I was so excited to try this place out. I’ve been to their store(Standard Market) and their regular restaurant and have always been pleased. This taco place was a HUGE let down for me. The tacos I had were the Pork and the Chicken. You couldn’t even tell the difference between the two b/c of the greasy marinade they were cooked in. The meat was fatty and tuff. My b/f ordered the steak burrito. The burrito W/O meat was $ 6, if you wanted steak it was $ 4 more! Chipotle is cheaper than that! The only water you could get was bottled, no tap water.(Rip off). Plus $ 3 if you want chips and salsa. If you want good tacos in the burbs, head down the street to Taco Grill and Salsa bar. The tacos are awesome and the chips are free if you dine in. Won’t be back going back here.

I have to disagree with other reviews. I don’t mind spending three dollars on a taco when said taco involves well prepared tasty ingedients like slow cooked pulled pork with pineapple and delicious chimichura sauce or roasted tilapia. Chips and guacamole is fantastic. It’s nice to sit outside as well. Margarita was good. Made with patron. they will make your taco on lettuce if you want

We had dinner here last night. Two adults, two kids– all love Mexican food. I grew up in Cicero and know authentic Mexican food. This place was a hit or miss. Seemed a little expensive $ 47 for a family of four– the two kids were 1 and 3 so smaller appetites. We got 5 tacos, 1 quesadilla, 1 side of rice, 2 elotes, 3 drinks and a chips and salsa. Tacos– steak ones were WAY too salty. Shrimp ones were good. Rice– delicious. Tasted way better than it looked(it’s green) Quesadilla– good but as my husband pointed out, how do you mess up a quesadilla? Chips and salsa– chips were a little salty but came out warm which was nice and the salsa was blah. Quacamole(came with quesadilla) — delicious! Elotes– good. Not delicious but not bad. For me, the corn was Tom sweet but my daughter loved it so much we went back and bought another. They were very kind and accommodating when I asked for no spice and asked them to cut the corn off the Cobb since it was hard to do with a plastic knife. People seemed very nice although it took forever to order. Something went wrong with someone ahead of us in line and it slowed the whole thing down drastically. Drinks were expensive– a Gatorade was a few dollars. $ 9 alone was on a tea and 2 gatorades. You can’t ask for a cup of water. You have to buy one. Cheapest water bottle is $ 1.00. I’d go back for a quesadilla, maybe try another kind of taco and get some rice and elotes but I wouldn’t be able to convince my husband to eat here again. Honestly, the taco meat was sooo salty I hope something was just wrong with the batch we had.

Average at best. Tacos are appetizer sized portions. Spiced well is the only positive thing I can say and a decent sized patio which is why we came. Small salsa bar but they are not marked so no idea how spicy each is. Skip this and go to Taco Grill and Salsa Bar down the street.

While I’m a big fan of Standard Market, this extension is not a good representation of the possibility of a great place. I frequent the Grill and Cube, and had high expectations for the tacos. I was really hoping for a flavorful, off-the-chart meal, especially when the tacos are $ 3 and $ 4 a piece, not the case! Please keep in mind, my order was to go, or else I would have said something upon receiving. Ordered one arrachera steak taco, one shrimp taco and the elote corn. The steak was supposed to come with cilantro and onion, and what I received was a taco with a few pieces of steak, coagulated cheese and lettuce. The shrimp taco was mediocre, 4 small shrimp with a sliver of avocado, and the elote was an ear of corn with some cheese, pepper sprinkled on it and some lime sprayed on it – it’s much better at the Sox game! The tacos are small, and definitely not worth the price. So many better places in the area for good tacos, such a disappointment…

In my quest for Cali style tacos in Chicago I have found my home away from Mecca, and in the unlikeliest of places: the ‘docks of Westmont, IL… There were no Unilocal reviews to check out, this place was off the map — located at the Standard Market grocery store off Ogden, there is just a large sign outside that says TACOS… Being that it’s been my mission for the last three months to gravitate toward any and all businesses claiming to sell seafood tacos, naturally I went to check out the goods — preparing for another letdown but curious nonetheless. Shrimp tacos marinated in an orange/ancho chile adobo sauce and seared, then topped with avocado. I asked for it on a corn tortilla. Baja tacos with grilled tilapia, cabbage slaw, agave lime vinaigrette, and cilantro. They also sell adobo marinated chicken tacos with pickled onion, and marinated pork shoulder with grilled pineapple and Spanish onion. I ordered the shrimp and Baja tacos, migrated to their lovely outdoor patio, and proceeded to work remotely the rest of the gorgeous, sun-soaked afternoon. This is it for me, my new resting place in the ‘docks, right down the street from my job, and conducive to working — with the added reward of being just a damn nice place to chill where no one cares if you sit for hours at a time. So why 4 stars and not 5? Because it’s not Mecca, it’s not Oscar’s in Southern California where two seafood tacos are packed with fresh, healthy goodness and able to fill you up. The drawback of the tacos here is that they are small, $ 4 for the shrimp taco, $ 3 for the Baja and I easily could have eaten four tacos. So, yes, you’ll have to be a bit spendy to come here for food that is traditionally known as streetcart food. That’s not how the suburbs get down, obviously, but damn am I impressed by this place. It took me three months, from the interior of Chicago to the ‘docks, to find the grilled taco style. Now I need to get to Big Star in Wicker Park, and the layers of Pilsen still yet unexplored — to see how Standard Tacos stacks up to the big boys.
