New Years Eve. Full house. Reservations at 9pm. We arrived at 8. Found 4 seats at the bar after about 20 minutes while we waited for our table. Staff working to ensure that everyone is having a great experience. Great drinks and live music downstairs. Table ready on time next to the huge windows overlooking the outdoor courtyard with large outdoor heating towers. The barn was beautifully decorated with white Christmas lights. Food Arrives, my daughter’s boyfriend loved his Prime Rib, cooked perfectly. My daughter had the Scrod which she said was ok, but bland. My wife had the duck which is always good and enjoyed it. My only complaint– I ordered the Filet Homard, it arrived without the lobster. When I inquired, I was told matter of factly by the server that they were out of lobster– no advanced notice, no apology. The filet was delicious but not what I had ordered. Overall, a great experience, and we appreciate the effort that the restaurant staff puts in and the sacrifices that they make personally to ensure that the patrons have a memorable experience. BRAVO LaFrance Hospitality!

Hello, this was first time here, «tavern», or pub as I would call it was available only, the upstairs was not!!! Very small, very tight down there(compared to upstairs, I would imagine). And yet, prices don’t reflect that! our experience here, for my wifes birthday was unfavorable… so I’ll be brief. Keep in mind, as I give details, that, for the price of the meals, I expect to be blown away in all aspects of our plates…($ 25.00~~~40.00). My wife got sirloin tenderloin with lobster over risotto cakes and asparagus 36.00, my mistake in ordering was peppercorn encrusted scallops with garlic risotto and asparagus 28.00…let me start with, the food was not hot… at all, pet peav of mine. I don’t know what I was thinking…“peppercorn”(see pic)!! One bite… mouth on fire, eyes watering… etc. Spent the rest of meal scraping off the peppercorns!!! I could go on… the strong fish-on-it’s-way-out smell from the bacon wrapped scallops app, as soon as placed on table!!! But… I won’t…suffice to say, at these prices, won’t be back. Maybe the pub grub is great… dunno?

Efficient and quick with the food. I’m a huge clam chowder advocate — it tastes really good. Oysters A triple plus — love it — great environment and people. Will definitely be back. Thank you

Disappointing — did not match our expectations for a country inn in this beautiful town. Though the menu is extensive, the preparation is marginally acceptable, and the overall experience doesn’t justify the price of a meal.(Basic fare: one Chicken(small overcooked breast), one Baked Scrod, one small dinner salad, one dessert, one bottle of wine = $ 90) Service was slow but became annoyingly attentive after the meal was served. Had to look at obnoxious TV monitor stuck in corner of dining room with equally obnoxious ‘E Network’. Better prepared, more flavorful food can be found down the road at Marguerites or down Horseneck Road at The Bayside.

I recently hosted an event with 49 guests at Bittersweet Farm and want to share my mixed reviews. First the good. The venue(the loft) was wonderful. It’s a very rustic setting elegantly staged. We did a buffet and the food was outside our main room which made the flow work well. And the food was quite good. I received many positive comments. We were hosted by two young girls who did their best to accommodate all our asks and while we had the room from 11:00am to 3:00 with another party t follow, we never felt rushed out. Now for the«needs improvement». I did see a manager twice, once a the very beginning and once just before food service. But never in our function room and she never spoke to me at all. We served Coffee, Mimosa’s and Bloody Mary’s at a self-service drink bar. Several times we were out of glasses or beverages or coffee creamer. Each time I had to «go find» one of our servers and this happened about a half dozen times throughout the day. With a party of 49 at a cost of $ 3,000 I expected someone to be in the room at all times, let me even be so bold as to presume it would be a manager, managing. I asked who would make the count and the young server said the manager usually comes in. She never did and the young server did the count. Even when it was time to remit, the bill was brought by one of the young servers. As I reviewed it I had a question on what the meaning of «service charge» was. When I asked the young girl she said she didn’t know because she didn’t usually handle that part, but she’d go ask. She, the young girl, returned with the answer«that goes to the house», not very helpful. If I am wrong about having a manager in the room overseeing don’t you think a manager should have appeared to explain the billing question? It left me wondering what the $ 450 service change was for. In the end, it was a great event. I would consider an event there again BUT I would certainly consider other options before committing. When you are hosting 49 people at a special event you shouldn’t have to worry about details that are the venue’s responsibility. It just put a little added pressure on the day.

This is a lovely spot, the food was good and we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. This restaurant and wedding venue was the perfect place for the wedding we attended. Everyone had a lovely time surrounded by the warm unpretentious atmosphere and attentive waitstaff. It isn’t gourmet but certainly a very pleasant and enjoyable place to dine and have a wedding.

We got married here May 2015 We wanted a rustic barn themed wedding, but other venues were just too far, and costly. Bittersweet Farm is reasonably priced, and works well for those looking for this type of venue. Our coordinator Lindsay was so sweet, and helpful, and really made sure our vision came to life. The staff was friendly, and polite. Everything flowed smoothly the day of the wedding, thanks to her. The grounds are beautiful, and the interior is cozy and intimate. Everyone kept telling us how great the food was, and even though we did the tasting, and chose the food, I was wowed with everything yet again.

Always get the filet here and always satisfied. We went later in the evening once and there was a band playing, I suggest going early if you want a quiet meal.

My husband and I eat out frequently. We hadn’t been to the Bittersweet Tavern in a number of years. no particular reason. We thought we’d head out there and have a cocktail and some oysters, then dinner. The oysters were perfect… clean and fresh, perfectly chilled! We both had the prime rib. It was cooked to perfection, exactly how we ordered it. Our server, Nanette, was very pleasant and attentive… not overbearing. Just right! We’re looking forward to our next visit… I’m thinking, next week! Yes,…it was THAT good!

Havent been to Bittersweet Farms in many years. Received a few gift certificates from a client for Christmas and it is local to my home so we decided to try it. We have been on two different occasions in the last two weeks, once on a Thursday, once on a Tuesday. Both times the food was exceptional but the service was dreadful. Waitresses rushed us thru interactions both times, rarely checked on us, had to have the hostess box our food, had to ask the food runner for more water etc. As someone who is in the restaurant business, I have sympathy for busy waitresses. But neglecting tables is another problem. One waitress barely listened to me detailing my food allergy, as if it was of unimportance. If it wasn’t for the gift certificates, I would never return.

Our rustic wedding was here on Friday. Everything went great the day of. The food was really good and the venue was really nice inside. We did the ceremony and reception in the same main level. We are extremely happy with how everything came together. The only negative is that we had to deal with a constant change in coordinators that we worked with. Because they left Bittersweet Farm or got fired, I am assuming. The first two did not write down all the details we talked about. This led to much confusion 2 weeks before the wedding as we tried to work everything out that was wrong with our new coordinator Sarah. All and all we would not have wanted our wedding to be anywhere else. Bittersweet Farm was great. Thank you.

This is a review for bittersweet as a wedding venue, I have not been downstairs in the tavern. The wedding was outside down in the field and it turned out to be a bit unexpectedly chilly for the first Friday in October. Only negative I have to say is that myself and several other family members had some issues with our shoes and the grass, because the area that they set up the ceremony in was a bit of a haul from the parking area. Perhaps a walkway of some sort could be put down for those who aren’t warned of the outdoor location ahead of time. The inside is beautiful! Very rustic, lots of wood, lovely wicker and lighted accents throughout. Our wedding party had tables set up both downstairs and in the loft above and both bars were up and running throughout the night. Tip: the upstairs bar does stock hard alcohol! The appetizers I can’t comment on, the couple selected all items that had shellfish so I was unable to partake. For wedding food, theirs was pretty close to some of the best I have had. I had baked scrod, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Thank the skies above I was not fed frozen veggies at a wedding for once! The broccoli was fresh. The scrod was with a simple ritz and lemon coating, but was a large portion. The mashed potatoes had the red skins dispersed throughout and were the right consistency with a few small lumps throughout. My sister had the prime rob which was just a tad pink in the middle, and to my indiscriminate taste(when it comes to red meat that is) felt it was tasty am not hard to chew or eat

Cape cod oysters were delicious and refreshing. Came with sort of pickled onion garnish. Very good compliment to the oysters. Had a very light meal and carrot cake for desert. The Carrot cake was very good. Not too sweet, just right. Overall very good food and a relaxing atmosphere.

We came in late at night so maybe the reason we got soggy slaw and broccoli. My baked potatoe was also long past hold time, where it had that brown color towards the skin. If the cheesecake was made in house it was too hard, almost to the point where you needed a steak knife to cut it. If not find a new vendor. Waitress was nice though.

Once upon a time, I adored this restaurant. Now, I wish I’d never heard of it! Stay away from ordering meals here, the chowder and mashed potatoes are the only thing worth eating, and their«famous» corn muffins are good smeared in butter. The lobster salad, was a $ 2 bag of grocery store bagged salad with a ¼ lobster tail tossed on top at best. For $ 19, we could do way better. The stuffed sole, flavorless, until I added salt anyway. It would take a lot to drag me back to this mediocre try at food.

Not sure what all the 4 or 5 stars are about. My experience at the downstairs«tavern» was a 2 at best. The best part of our meal was the below average service. It took 15 minutes before our server even came to our table. The food left much to be desired. I ordered the $ 15 fish tacos. They were basically a frozen tilapia fillet in a hard shell with cole slaw and plastic cheese on the side, no flavor. It was like they have never seen what a real fish taco tastes like. My girlfriend had the fried oysters-flavorless, except for the taste of overused frying oil that left a bitter aftertaste. We were with a few other people and all of their dishes tasted like they were out of the freezer and flavorless. If you want a family-owned Applebee’s, this is your place. If you want fresh and tasty food, look elsewhere.

I had the pleasure of stopping into to Bittersweet Farm last night with some family. I honestly didn’t even know this place was around. It is a hidden gem, thanks to Unilocal for helping me find it. We all took advantage of the $ 19 prime rib special! What a bargain! You get French onion soup, Caesar salad and prime rib for $ 19! Our meat was cooked perfectly and we were all full to the max, nobody left hungry that was for sure. They even had a live one man band which was excellent. I had a great time and will definitely be back when I am back in the area.

Located in a quaint area in Westport, MA. Has nice ambience at first glance but later found it to be very noisy inside. Lighting is nice and cozy I should say. Not a great place to have a quiet or romantic dinner! Food I would say is mediocre. They need to provide some vegan options. They did try to give me alternatives but I wish they had more non meat options.

Nice place for dinner. Casual basement seating we enjoy with our young grandson. We go here whenever we visit family in Westport. I wish they took reservations for the basement seating. They also have an upstairs seating which is a little upscale from casual. They do take reservations for the upstairs seating.

The Good: The clam chowder and littlenecks with Portuguese chourico. The Bad: 35 minutes to receive appetizers and another 30 minutes to receive entrées on a Tuesday at 5:30. For my entrée, I ordered the peppercorn scallops and they were very mediocre(Overcooked/dry). I expect something like this in Chicago not back home in Massachusetts.
