We are pretty new to Indian Food but this place made us want to come back! Janice was very helpful explaining the menu to us and helped us pick out some great kabobs. My wife had chicken and I had lamb, very delicious. The appetizers were great too!(veg samosa)

Excellent restaurant. The food and preparation is top quality. I haven’t had great Indian cuisine since moving out of Boston. It’s terrific to find a place finally in the suburbs that has this level of preparation. Even better is the service is incredible, friendly and the décor is immaculate.

We’ve ordered from Taj no less than 4 times since they arrived in town. The food is consistently tasty and we consider it our new go-to for Indian(certainly more convenient than our old spot in Quincy.) I don’t stray far from the paneer saag, it’s always great. My husband is all about the spice and usually goes with the rogan josh with goat or something else with heat. We also usually tack on an order of the bhel puri — particularly spicy at Taj FYI. I’d probably love it even more if it was less so. The naan is naan but who can order Indian without it to clean up all the delicious sauce on one’s plate? I’d skip it if we had naan at home, which we sometimes do, as I find takeout naan to be soggy once we get it home. They made a mistake on our order once and happily replaced the wrong item with the right one and let us keep the mistake. Good customer service there! We will be back again and again.

The best Indian food I’ve had in the south shore. Fluffy flavorful rice; juicy succulent chicken; tender, fall-off-the-bone lamb and goat; spicy, creamy saag paneer. Plus, the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. I’ve been here twice now and will definitely spread the word to friends and family.

Tonight was our first time here. When you walk in you’re welcomed into a clean and bright space with modern décor. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She made great suggestions that gave us a fantastic dining experience. I highly recommend the chicken madras with garlic naan… Outstanding!

Now let’s get real. This place has unparalleled Indian food. Go anywhere on the South Shore, the North Shore, Boston and beyond and you will not find better, more authentic Indian home cooking. Sure you can complain about the parking, the temperature, the lack of ambiance but when it comes down to the most important thing — the food — you can not complain. Regardless if you think you are the greatest food critic this side of Bangalore or a world traveller that camped outside of the Taj Mahal for three months during your Peace Corp days the food here is legit. Family cooking, family wait staff, a dining room full of Indian and Pakistani folks all digging through pots of homemade food.. . what’s not to like? One word of warning, the food here can be ‘sweat your cahones off hot.’ No I am not kidding. Hot like your cousin Manjunatha from Andhra Pradesh orders, hot. The only shortcomings are: No liquor license — well not yet. I was told(perhaps they noticed old Rusty T. always looks like he needs a cool beverage) the Weymo powers-that-be have been working at a Weymo pace in getting it to them. By having a liquor licence this will most likely put this place over the top of other Indian spots in the region. Can’t wait. Ambience — or lack thereof. Although this is a food first kind of place they might do themselves a favor and break-out and find a suburban ‘designer mom’ that can give them some short lessons on color and adding a little comfort. Look no further than down the road in Hingham as every stay at home mom is either a realtor or an interior decorator and one of them would love to have you on their resume. That’s about it but one other thing that might be helpful would be a laminated page of descriptions of the various dishes for the non-expert diners.

Excellent Indian Spot! Unfortunately, they are a little out of my way so I won’t make it here often but they are far and wide better than the other spots in the area(Indian delight and fishtail). I’ve been twice and both visits included free cauliflower soup. The soup was very good. I very much enjoyed the naan and shahi paneer on both visits. The pakora and samosa are also on point. Make your way out for this spot if you want Indian. You won’t regret it. PASS

This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to, ever. The ingredients taste fresh and high quality and the mix of spices is absolutely perfect. The eggplant(Baingan Bharta) was ethereal… perfect texture, amazing spice and the standard by which this dish should be measured. The Mutter Paneer(peas and fresh cheese) also wonderful, and the lamb curry was out of this world. Rice is flavorful and perfectly cooked. Lassi absolutely stunning. I have been twice and also had the Masala Dosa, which pretty much sent me to heaven and back. Sadly, they are not currently offering this dish anymore as it is a regional speciality and they don’t have a person currently to cook it; I’m disappointed, but also pleased they are sticking to what they know they can do well! The service was also very efficient and friendly and personal. This restaurant is not convenient to me(I live in Boston) but I can’t wait to return and am looking for reasons to be in Weymouth.

I am an Indian food newbie, but the people at Taj are very friendly and very open to answering questions. I usually get the delivery, although I picked up my food once at their location. The food is so good! It’s comfort food for sure! The delivery people are very friendly and so quick! I would recommend some chairs for people picking up their food for takeout in the restaurant, maybe along the wall. Love this place and I will keep ordering! I spread the word to everyone in the area also!

Tried this small Indian restaurant for the first time. I must say, I am absolutely delighted with the food. Limited selections but everything that they put out on the buffet line were good. For $ 11.95 per person, that was fair. Every dishes were spice right, not greasy nor cooked in too much cream. Lamb used in the curry was all meat instead of bones used in most Indian restaurants in the surrounding areas. Chicken tandoori was spot on. Chicken tikka masala was creamy and spiced mildly. The lentil soup was creamy(from the lentils used, no cream at all) and spiced right. Love the spicy onion chutney, the mint and tamarind chutneys were done right. The vegetable briyani was filled with vegetables, not greasy at all and had the right amount of spices in it. The dal tadka was the bomb. It smelled amazing when I was scooping it out from the hot buffet dish. One bite and I was in dal heaven. The saag paneer had large cubes of paneer in it, unlike most places that serves you a ton of spinach with little paneer. The chickpeas curry was good, not greasy at all. Gulab jamun was done right. The fried milk dough was all soaked and drenched in the sugary syrup with no dry spots inside. Definitely one of the better ones in the area. They give you fresh bread basket, you have a choice of plain or garlic naan, and chapati. If you can’t make up your mind, get all three. They are more than happy to oblige. The garlic naan lacks the soft chewy naan texture compared to the plain naan. Our server, the sweet girl, was very attentive. She is quick to get the kitchen to replenish the buffet line. The whole time we were there, there were a lot of South Indian patrons dining in the tiny restaurant. That’s a good sign to show you how authentic the food is. No MSG, that’s a great big plus. I do not mind the smaller selection as everything was good. I can see why some non-Indian patrons will not like this restaurant as much. The food weren’t make sweeter to fit the palate of most, it wasn’t as salty as other restaurants, and the cook is definitely not shy when using spices in the dishes. It was authentic, just the way I would expect a good South Indian cook to make the curries and briyani. Way to go! Will definitely return for more.

Went with my girlfriend and daughter and absolutely loved the food. They are vegan and the Taj were so accommodating. The vegi platter had a good assortment and the accompanying sauces and chutney were excellent. I had the Chicken Korma medium spice and it was spot on. Very flavorful and the chicken tender. Enjoyed the garlic nan with it. My girlfriend had the Dal Tadka and really enjoyed it. Also they press their own mango juice which was stellar. They said they do a buffett on weekends and will be back to try as well.

Absolutely 2.5 stars — and really justifies the«it’s ok» feeling. Went there with a group of 5 coworkers wanting to try the new Indian place not too far away from work. Have to start with the positives and then go down the cons. Service: 5 stars We were greeted on a warm Tuesday by very courteous staff. Smiling faces, very enthusiastic, we got seated right away as the place was empty for a 12 noon lunch on a Tuesday. Throughout our 1 hour stay, the service was very quick. our appetizers and then our entrees came out real fast — lightning fast actually. And the staff kept regular checks on our waters and anything specific that we may need. Great job! Ambiance: 2.5 stars The dining area is split into 2 small sections and can be best described as a small sized restaurant. So we were actually glad that we were the only ones eating there as it made the place look pretty full. It was a hot summer day and they have big windows. The place was definitely all warm — both due to the temperature as well as the courteousy of the staff. But given Indian food is hot as it is, this would be a rather welcome on a cold winter day with sun rays hitting you while having hot food. And then, evenings should be a different affair — post sunset. In essense, I would relate to this place more as a take out place than dining in. Food: 2 stars This is what it all comes down to. I cannot use the word«bad» because it will shed a negative light because clearly the food is not bad. But Indian food is very very specific. Chicken cooked in 1500 different ways out of which here in the States one can only get exposed to max 10 on a menu — if lucky, those 10 should taste different given the ingredients, the cooking methodology etc. My likeness or the opposite feelings for an Indian restaurant ultimately comes down to if the Chicken tikka masala tastes different than Chicken korma and chicken vindaloo and chicken rogan josh, etc etc etc. And fortunately in Quincy and other Boston suburbs, we have a couple of good choices where we can rely on that depth in preparation. So we ordered 4 different chicken dishes and 1 shahi paneer, along with chicken biryani and 3 kinds of nans. The 4 chicken dishes did not wow us beyond a certain point. They more or less tasted the same. Even more disappointing were the nan breads. Peshawari nan is supposed to be very moist, the fillings should be tasteful. This one was very bland. The other 2, just as forgettable. And the biryani — really didnt make the cut. The 4 pakoras and 2 samosas — strictly OK. The chicken tikka app — with 5 pieces, left a lot to be desired. And that was the consensus of every one — who successfully managed to fill themselves up — but couldnt make any difference of which was a hot dish and which was a mild one — as some had ordered. We all ended up tasting every one of the dishes like communal dining. Hopefully the chefs here make sure that while it is something that won’t make any difference to diners who really are not intune with customary Indian recipes and preparations, but those who are, will obviously notice the above. Also. They have Dosas mentioned on their menu. We asked for a cheese masala dosa — to which one of the ladies who was in charge of our table came back from the kitchen saying that the grill was not ready and they do dosas only in the evening. The menu to that effect is pretty misleading. They should make things less confusing and have a seperate lunch and dinner menu — if possible. Value: 2.5 stars That’s my take on the overall experience. Would I get take out or dine in here? I have my doubts because a couple of miles on the other side of the Foreriver bridge — there is much better an option with the quality of food that is out of this world. Rounding off to 3 stars because they are a new start up and have room for improvement. There is very little they can do about the actual dining space which is quite small. The outstanding service should match the quality of food to bring back customers who are into hardcore North Indian cuisine. That dosa situation was a bummer for sure!

While no closer to being knowledgeable on Indian Cuisine, I can say that this place was nice. Small, simple, and with soft Indian music in the background, it was sufficient. Of course I was the only one here at 3:30pm on Sunday, so I had the whole place to myself. I started with the tomato and coconut soup ;it tasted good. The entrée was lamb in a mild curry sauce. The dish tasted fine, similar to Fishtail in weymouth. I guess I’d come back. I’d like to find a popular Indian restaurant again with a crowd to validate that the atmosphere and Cuisine are authentic.

As others have said, this is a family-run restaurant where they know what service and quality are. We lived in India for many years and I can’t stand the food at most Indian restaurants in boston. This is an exception. Tasty fresh and honest. We’ll be back.

Ordered twice now and a variety of items and this food is very good. They have the standards and some stuff I have not had before. Their vindaloo could be spicier but other then that I can’t complain. Lamb samosas are Mother effing delicious. Delivery is crazy fast!

I don’t like to rate places prematurely, but this warrants mention. My first meal at Taj was a great experience. The tandoori mixed grill was spot-on and the portion was generous. Only open a very sorry time now, the owners have had success in other local ventures and appear to take a great deal of pride in the quality and presentation. Definitely worth a shot for those Weymouth and Hingham residents who have limited choices for Indian cuisine.
