Went in with my pops to get a tuneup on his bike. They were great. Warm atmosphere. A bit pricy, but worth it in the end.

When you’re buying a bike, the shop is almost as important as the bicycle itself. You need unbiased advice you can trust from a knowledgeable staff, great prices, and reliable, expert service — not to mention good inventory. Whippany Cycle has all of these. They don’t sell Trek, Cannondale, Specialized or Giant, so if you’re looking for these brands, look elsewhere. They specialize in Raleigh, and they carry Fuji and a few other name brands, as well. That said, the bikes are quality, and the prices are lower than other area shops. Chuck and Chet at Whippany will help you find a bike that suits your needs(road bike, hybrid, mountain bike, etc.) your body type and your budget. There’s never any pressure to buy, and if they’re ordering for you, deposits are nominal. When I was shopping for a road bike earlier this year, I went to shops where the staff was trying to sell me $ 1200 bikes when I was clear about my less-than-a-grand budget. It was suggested, in another shop, that I order a Trek that I hadn’t yet ridden — with a 50% deposit! The only place comparable to Whippany in service and value was REI, and at the end of the day, I’d rather give a local shop my business — especially when I know that Chuck and Chet will be there in 5 years, and the guys I met at REI are probably already gone.(Also, I couldn’t find any reviews on the REI bike. And it had flowers on it.) Whippany is exactly what you want in a local bike shop. I’d trust these guys to fix my bike properly, price the job sensible, and stand by their work. Another great thing — they sell used bikes here.(Last year, I got a cool-as-anything ca 1960 Armstrong road bike for $ 150 — including new brake cables and a super-comfortable new seat. Best darn purchase I’ve ever made.) If you’re looking to get back on a bike, start with their used selection in back. It’s huge, well-priced, and they’ll fix up your bike any way you like! So, clearly I’m a fan. These guys have been here forever, and most Morris and West Essex folks got their first«real» bikes here. There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long. They’re just that good.
