We were driving on the Hutch, headed to JFK for my husband to catch a plane when he realized our brakes weren’t working. Yikes! Luckily he was able to get us off the highway and Kalvin and his guys at Mamaroneck Service were the 1st station we came to. One of Kalvin’s guys looked at the car right away and diagnosed the problem(leak in brake fluid line) in 2 – 3 minutes. He repaired it within 90 minutes. We were going to catch a cab to an car rental place so I could drive my husband the rest of the way to JFK. Kalvin said, «No, just take a cab to JFK, it’ll be quicker and ultimately less than the cab and car rental combined». He was so right! Steve made his flight :) and the repair was maybe $ 140. The car’s been great since. It was such a pleasure to be in a tough situation like that and feel there was someone who truly cared about us and wanted to do whatever he and his staff could to get Steve to the airport and fix the car. Once Steve was off in the cab, I bought a good quality charger for my dying phone(plug and cord for $ 10, not bad at all) at this gas station of Kalvin’s, went up the street ½ a block to Lombardo’s and had a lovely glass of wine, bowl of lentil soup and fabulous side salad w/Gorgonzola cheese and Italian dressing(see excellent separate review of Lombardo’s). All in all, considering how horribly the hole in the brake line could’ve been, not such a bad afternoon, after all. Thank you Kalvin and staff!!!
