I am in Wichita on business and was craving Chinese. I orders delivery from Lee’s and was greeted on the phone by a friendly and well spoken lady. Upon delivery, which only took 25 minutes, I could smell the sweet aroma of the General Tso’s chicken and fried rice. My food was still piping hot and ready to be devoured. The rice was delicious and satisfying. The general Tso’s chicken left room for more to be desired. The sauce was so-so and not very spicy, I ordered the medium, and the chunks of chicken were huge. The crab Rangoon was a little off. The strong taste of cream cheese overpowered the crab but it was still delicious. The value of the food was still excellent at a price point below $ 20 including delivery and tip.

Wow. Just wow. I was shocked to find this little gem in Kansas of all places. You’d be hard pressed to find a more authentic Chinese restaurant outside of China. There is a huge difference between American Chinese food(your general tso’s, beef with broccoli’s and such) and authentic Chinese food. Both of which they have, and the latter being presented on a special, smaller, side menu — which you may have to ask for. Where else are you going to find such authentic dishes like Peking Duck?! Lees — that’s where. The do both versions very well. Flavorful and fresh. Friendly and attentive service. Truly, a restaurant worth going out of your way to visit. Anyone giving it negative reviews either A) doesn’t know what they’re talking about or B) just happened to stop by on a — what I’m sure is rare — off night. Well done Lee’s. A MUST for anyone in Wichita craving that comforting Chinese food night!!!

Truly home made, authentic Chinese! They offer two menus– authentic Chinese & more American? Go for the shredded duck & mushrooms & also try home made crab Rangoon & sauces!

The food here is excellent if you know what real chinese food taste like. If you don’t then DONOT order off the authentic menu. If you like Americanized Chinese food you’ll hate it. Their American Chinese is just average but good. Their authentic menu is excellent.

I don’t know why they get 4 stars. I had rice noodles with beef and black bean sauce. I am a harsh critic which it comes to chinese food. they are very nice but the food was edible not terrible but not 4 stars either.

I rank a 3 as ok, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. I had the beef w/broccoli, my wife had Hunan chicken. Both were average. Hot and sour soup was good, but not as good as others that I’ve had. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Very friendly service but the Orange chicken was a little dry and the sauce had little flavor. The steamed rice was a little stale too.

There are not many individually owned Chinese restaurants like this in town anymore. Lee’s restaurant has been in business as long as I’ve been alive, and I can see why it has a loyal customer base. Quality ingredients, unique menu options, comfortable atmosphere, and friendly and helpful staff makes for a nice dining experience. We enjoyed it, and will gladly return.

This is another place that’s close to my work which is why I gave it a try. I don’t think their lunch buffet is that great, so I prefer to order from their menu instead. Even though their lunch combos are a great price, it’s just not enough meat for me. I enjoy their hot and sour wonton soup. Whenever I’m feeling like crap at work, this soup saves me! I’ve also tried two of their noodle dishes(I think it was Cantonese Pan Fried Noodles and Beef Stir Fry Wide Noodle– they have several different noodle dishes and I get them mixed up). You definitely get your money’s worth with these because the portion is large enough for 2 people to share.

Staying a night in a nearby hotel, to catch an early flight the next day, this place was highly recommended by the hotel staff, so I thought I would give it a shot. Boy howdee, am I glad I did! It was just me, so I can’t review all their dishes but the General Tso’s chicken was amazing. Large pieces of chicken in a sauce so tasty, I wanted to lick the plate. The hotel worker had said her favorite was the ‘house fried rice’, so after enjoying every savory bite of my meal, I got her an order of the fried rice as a thank you for a wonderful recommendation. The service is warm and friendly, they offer to do the spicy sauces at three levels of heat. The medium was perfect for my taste buds. I only wish this was in my hometown, so I could go back, again and again and again.

I like everything I have tried here. They are quick for takeout and always very pleasant. I wasn’t too impressed by the buffet, which is not really their thing.

I was tempted to try their Buffet, but I have been craving ‘King Pao Beef’ and their Buffet had ‘Kung Pao Chicken’. Same in many restaurants, the lighting was dim — so I couldn’t really peruse the menu(not to my satisfaction anyway). So I asked my Server what veggies were in their ‘Kung Pao Beef’ and she gave a very accurate description of what was in it. She ran back to my table to make sure that I understood that the Entrée included Peanuts, which I thought was very Smart! Since my Entrée was being cooked just for me – I asked her to tell the Chef to «Blaze it Up’ and to go a little heavy handed with the heat! Made me wonder how bland is the food in the Buffet? I don’t think the Chef took me seriously, because it ‘s about a 3 out 10 on the heat — not bland, but not HOT either. What I did love were the precisely diced fresh veggies, Can’t say that I even noticed the Peanuts — So there weren’t many! But I really enjoyed the Presentation. The Entrée was brought on a Pedestal with a Cover and the white steamed rice was served separately. I did ask for a small bowl /cup of Hot & Sour Soup — which the Server got from a Tureen on the buffet(made me double think NOT getting the Buffet!!). They kept refilling my Iced Tea, which is important to me! Many people came in and ’Enjoyed” the Buffet and I might try it next time. .. .. .. .. . Here’s why I didn’t give it a 5 Star rating. LUNCH was $ 15.46 with a tip it was $ 18.46 — that;s a serious chunk of change for lunch! Now, I had leftovers and will get another meal out of it, for sure — but $ 18 plus is WAYTOOMUCH for lunch!

The only Asian restaurant in recent memory that has excellent customer service. From our waiter to the manager, service was prompt and friendly. Our friends from Hong Kong recommended this place for it’s Chinese menu. I was intrigued due to the various sezchuan options. This may have the largest selections of sezchuan options in Wichita(not saying terribly much though). There’s also a default Americanized Chinese menu, which you can grab next to the forks;) Anyways, here’s the breakdown: 1. shui zhu yu– the only szechuan dish(fish) we ordered and it was not spicy as it should be. Lacked ma la(tongue numbing spiciness that does not overpower flavor of dish; characteristic of szechuan dishes). Passable, but would not order again. 2. some tofu with eggplant dish– Husband asked for basil eggplant, and the waiter said he could do a combination of two eggplant dishes. The eggplant was firm and the whole dish passable. 3. some chicken dish billed as chicken hot pot– not a hot pot, more like chicken in thick brown sauce. They used dark meat and it was passable. This dish was highly rec’d by our friends along with the black pepper steak. Better than the majority of the Chinese restaurants in the area in that they at least try to inject some authenticity.

In a recent New Yorker article profiling the Fujianese workers emigrating from China to the U.S. to work in Chinese restaurants, there was this quote from a worker: «Do you know why Americans don’t like eating meat with bones in it? They’re too lazy!» The sentiment is in full play at Lee’s, the first restaurant in Wichita to have a separate menu catering to authentic Chinese dishes, One of only three restaurants in the city to offer such a luxury, though you’d have a hard time believing it without prior knowledge: the Kellogg overpass has transmogrified it to a dingy late night eatery in service of the nearby hotels and little else. They’ve been around since 1981 and it looks like it. While the majority of the food that comes out of the kitchen is undoubtedly of the General Tso variety, the Chinese menu has simple pleasures. Hotpots of all varieties are offered, and ordering one with chicken will produce simple chicken wings cleaved into thirds and tossed in a simple sauce of ginger, garlic, and tien tsin chiles. You might not find any new revelations about Chinese cuisine while you pick your way through the bones, but the extra work does make you feel a little superior. The braised duck dish is a little more impressive, if only because you are presented with all major parts of the bird, broken down and roasted to a reasonably crispy crust. It may serve as reason alone to work through the Chinese menu, especially considering when it’s $ 13 and enough for two. As one of only three restaurants offering a Chinese menu, it’s difficult to fault Lee’s for hanging in there as their prime real estate has been relegated to a frontage road so many years ago, but with two sprawling menus from which to choose, it feels unfocused.

Excellent selection, two versions of the menu allow you to choose between authentic Chinese and local signature dishes. Nice atmosphere and great service. Not to mention, the food was fantastic. Try the garlic beef entrée. Spot on.
