BESTBACONEVER! Mama Steve’s is a family tradition for us and we are always greeted by the warm and friendly staff. No, it isn’t upscale, but it’s exactly what is expect my grandma to bring to the table. Delicious homemade breakfast favorites. The kids are always big fans of the silver dollar pancakes and hot cocoa, typed generously with whipped cream. I’m personally a fan off the fact they have Vanilla International Delight creamer for my coffee. I enjoy everything being served with a bit of love by the staff, who really do exude the best in hospitality(as if you were dining in their own home). Prices are reasonable, food is delicious, servers are delightful. Yes, the atmosphere is a bit outdated… but it adds to the charm. Don’t go for a fancy meal. Go for a family meal.

My parents and I ate here on our second day in Williamsburg. The day before we ate at Southern Pancakes and Waffles and the differences are both good and bad. We ate here at 8:45 on a Monday morning in late June. This place is certainly quieter than Southern and more decorative. We could actually have a conversation at our table, but the place wasn’t very busy. The service was slow for such a slow morning. The waitresses are all wearing old fashioned dresses and hats. The décor is vey cute. The food is a bit pricer than other pancake houses. Instead of 4 plain pancakes that cost 8.00, we all would have preferred 3 pancakes for a cheaper price and then ordered a side. My mom ordered 2 eggs with her pancakes and it added 4 whole dollars to her meal. Too expensive when there are 50 other pancake houses to choose from on Richmond Road. My french toast was more expensive than Southern and was less food and not as good. Overall this was a cute experience for the eyes, but a mediocre experience for the stomach.

This is probably the worst place that I have eaten at for breakfast. The hostess pointed us to our table– it appears to be customary to point guests instead of escorting. My husbands potatoes were cold and my vegetarian omelet had a toothpick piece lodged into my food. The waitress apologized, but I think the damage and confidence that I had in producing quality food was gone — I couldn’t tell, if it was used but the thought was enough– instead I order a bagel — you know play it safe. I realized that they were unorganized as I listened to other guests regarding food being mixed, missed or cold– we were not alone. I am not sure, if they had a manager and if they did they didn’t apologize for the mishaps. The check arrived, the omelette was gone but my check was not compensated and when it was mentioned, I received a «huh» stare. My score is two thumbs down. No way no how will we return here.

Went here for lunch yesterday. Place is certainly older, but service was good. Our waitress was very nice. Food was ok, my kids got pancakes, which they said were fine. Iced tea was brewed nicely, and we are big iced tea lovers. My club sandwich was alright, the bread was kind of wimpy, and a little too much mayo made it a bit messy to eat, but the turkey was good and bacon cooked nicely. Husband got chicken Caesar salad that had a good amount of meat on it, and good tasting, there was just some strange items vegetable wise that you usually don’t see on a Caesar salad. The place was extremely quiet, but we were there around 12:30pm, and they close at 2:00pm. I felt the pancakes were a bit expensive, over $ 8.00 per plate.

We were seated right away but sat at our table for 15 minutes and no one ever came by to give us water, take our drink order, or at least say«we’ll be right with you»; so we got up and left. Awful service.

Actually was intending to go to Southern Pancake & Waffle House, but the GPS said we had arrived when we got to Mama Steve’s. Thought maybe they had changed names. My husband wanted juice and was only told about 2 flavors, even though there were actually 2 or 3 more on the menu. The food was filling, pretty good, and moderately priced. Didn’t realize until driving away that Southern was about 2 businesses down.

Service is horrible. Was only given 1.5 cups of coffee because they were going to close in a half hour. Food was not worth the price. Overheard the waitresses talking about the people who came in at 1:30 saying«if they are really hungry they can go to McDonalds» as they didn’t want to serve someone so close to closing. With so many other pancake houses around, there are much better choices.

As local, we were out of the house at breakfast time and thought we’d try one of the non chain restaurants for a big breakfast. First off the décor and uniforms clearly have not been updated in decades. I ordered the platter breakfast with steak and eggs and silver dollar pancakes. My husband ordered the chipped beef and biscuits. Nothing was seasoned and nothing tasted homemade, even my pancakes looked and tasted as though they were manufactured frozen pancakes. We couldn’t even finish our breakfasts. We both had coffee and a side of bacon and our meal totaled over $ 40 before tip. We will never go here again. This felt like a place that only benefits from tourist and not return customers. I felt like I was in a before scene of Restaurant Impossible for sure!

Took my out of town family here for breakfast. Breakfast was great! Eggs were done perfectly, portions were large, prices very reasonable. The service was perfect. It was our server(Shayna’s) first day and she did an amazing job. Will definitely come again.

Initially ordered the Strawberry pancakes but was persuaded to order the blueberry pancakes, as the strawberry ones were not fresh strawberries, while the blueberry ones were fresh. Four pancakes were delivered, covering pretty much the whole plate. Had blueberry syrup to go with it. Very tasty. Wife had an omelet, which she was able to enjoy being gluten-free. Not as good as Shorty’s, but definitely a place to return to.

This place is way too pricey for the quality of food that’s served. I ordered an omelette and added 2 pancakes for an upcharge of $ 2.99. Hey it’s a pancake spot right?!! Why not tack them on. Upon being served the pancakes they looked like they were made with cornmeal. Not only weren’t they appealing they didn’t taste well either. I would have been a lot more satisfied going to a chain restaurant such as iHop. The waiter James was awesome and attentive, but not overbearing. If it wasn’t for him this place would get a 1 star.

Cute costumes and decent pancakes. The location is easy to get to and parking is not a problem. The main drawbacks are the high price and rudeness of the staff.

Some of the worst food I’ve ever had. A freezing place with disgusting food. I got the vegetarian omelette in an attempt to be somewhat healthy at a pancake house and it was cooked with about a pound of American cheese in it. Also ordered rye bread toast hoping for another healthy alternative, but it was doused in overly salted butter, which gushed out like soap out of a wet sponge. My sister got scrambled eggs and they tasted like dishwater. Stay far away from this terrible overpriced place.

Stay away! The décor is hideous and the food terrible. They must prey on tourists because as my husband said, there is no way they get return business. $ 32.00 for breakfast for 2. The French Toast was plain, no cinnamon, the sausage links were not cooked well enough, the coffee tasted like instant. Save yourself and your money.

You know the story where the Starship Enterprise gets too close to a black hole and has to use all their power to break free throwing them into a time warp and appearing back in Earth’s orbit in the late 1960s? Well if they beamed down for breakfast, they would appear here at Mama Steve’s. This place opened in 1968 and I don’t think it has changed at all. Having had two daughters attend nearby W&M, we would always seem to drop in for breakfast here on our visits. Not the best nor the worst you can do in Williamsburg but just comfortable and predictable. Navigate their menu carefully as some items are well priced(large OJ for $ 2.25) and others are not(side of bacon for $ 4.95). They have a good selection though of egg breakfasts for $ 7.95 that seem to hit the sweet spot. I have also had their french toast but surprisingly not their pancakes which is crazy since it is a pancake house.

Now I’ve been to Mama Steve’s House of pancakes a few times and every time I’ve come it’s been a pleasant experience. If you’re coming down to Bush Gardens definitely worth stopping in simply for its affordable diner-esque experience. I can’t stress enough how they emphasize on the older diner feel. At first glance its a warm inviting area but you will notice it’s always busy. Wait times may differ and may be long so be prepared. You will however have a very friendly staff that will apologize about wait times regularly. Even after being seated you will experience wait times, so if you’re in a hurry. Don’t come here! The food is presented just like mama would. The first bite will give you an idea if you will like it or not. The coffee is is good and doesn’t taste like chalk. The funniest thing about this place is that the pancakes don’t look appealing while the rest of the food does. The applewood bacon & eggs with hash browns and sour dough toast, is the bees knees. It won’t blow your socks off because I mean it’s just breakfast but you won’t be disappointed. In short: Stop by Mama Steve’s if you have time, want an older colonial feel and on a budget. It’s worth your time at least once! Edit: After writing this review, we received a hearty and warm apology because they sent our food to the wrong table. They compensated us with free beverages.

Excellent spot. Hubby and I went here for breakfast on a saturday morning. It wasn’t crowded at all and we were helped immediately. Our server, Tammy, was excellent(it was her first day). The food was excellent with the exception of my husbands ham in the plantation platter. Make sure you ask for the virginia ham if you order this dish. I’m not sure what ham we got first but it tasted sour and was waaaaaaaayyy too salty. Tammy took very good care of us. I posted pics already but couldn’t linkthem to my review…
