If I could leave a review less than zero this place would be in the negatives. I am baffled as to why there was no parking because the food was disgusting, the décor was in authentic, the service was poor, the menu was over priced and limited. I have never encountered a restaurant that serves roqueford dressing. The best part of the meal was the half stick of butter in the baked potato. Don’t order the lobster bisque aka coagulated cream with chunks of something nasty in it. Do your wallet and stomach a favor and take the next stagecoach out of Wilmot.

I’ve lived in this area most of my life. I remember going to Stage Stop as a child for special occasions with my family. I had not been to stage stop since the 80s, so I didn’t know what to expect. I took my girlfriend out for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The menu is simple without all the frills. Meat and potatoes! The fresh meats are grilled over an old charcoal grill and the smells are extraordinary! Their butter is amazing and no shortage of it! They serve large portions and you definitely don’t leave hungry!

Okay I’ve dined at WSS several times with mixed quality on the steak and service. Positives: 1. Everything included with the steak: salad, trio of home made dressings(French, 1000, bleu cheese) on a stand, baked potato, ¼ lb of butter angles between the spud, sour cream & chive dollop from your ample service bowl. 2. Reasonable pricing $ 26-$ 31 steak. 3. No hassle re-do if your steak fails muster. Negatives: 1. Beef quality, temp and service inconsistent. 2. Wine list is low end. Tips: 1. Check out the menu and order immediately upon seating to avoid service delay. 2. Have a beer or soft drink. 3. Sit by the grill. Your waiter must pass by you to serve all other tables. You’ve got that collar when you need it! 4. Cash only; ATM inside

We are regular customers and have been for over 10 years and have always enjoyed our visits. In fact, we have told everyone we know what a great place it is & worth the drive. In fact we took a large group of people from work, who live in Chicago here 2 weeks ago and spent over $ 300. Tonight we were going to take another group of 11 people from work there. We made the reservation a few weeks ago and called late this afternoon to confirm it and add one more person. Well, they«lost» our reservation. Didn’t apologize, offer to make amends, nothing. If fact, the person we talked to refused to let us speak with the manager. After talking this place up, we were embarrassed to have to call our work colleagues and tell them what happened. Ever try to make a reservation 11 people at 3PM on a Saturday before mother’s day? Left a bad taste in our mouth. We won’t be inviting anyone there again and its unlikely we will return. The Stage Stop can ride out on the horse they rode in on.

We’ve been there quite a few times and always had a great meal. This time… not so much. We brought friends with that had never been there promising them the best. I was embarassed. The salad was wilted, like it had been premade and in a cooler for a day. The lobster was unseasoned, stringy and actually cold in the middle! The steak was nothing special. The waitress came by at least 4 times to ask if we were done. My husband still had a half plate of food! Annoying. I doubt that we will ever go back. Overpriced as well. That meal was definitely NOT worth $ 100.00!!!

I agree with the person that says… how can you not enjoy Stage Stop, I have been visiting Stage Stop for over 20 years, and it’s not in my neighborhood, so I don’t frequent the place. It’s a «special day» place to visit. So yes, it can be more expensive than you’d regularly spend. But if you like Steak & Lobster and potatoes… Stage Stop does not disappoint. Planning a visit this week for my birthday celebration… my mouth is watering already!

Don’t get me wrong, the food at Wilmot Stage Stop warrants more than two stars. My ribeye and baked potato was delish. My gripes are on the price and service After being seated by the hostess we sat at our table for around twenty minutes, no water, no menus… finally I had to go ask if they had forgotten about us. The places wasnt that busy, too. Things improved after that but really, I have no idea how long we would have sat there… So a couple of not exactly huge ribeyes, with potato and salad and a couple of martinis was $ 100 without the tip. I don“t know, maybe its me, but does that seem like a bit of money? Maybe I’m too used to dining at Taco Burrito King.

Wonderful place to visit to see what life was like in the 1840’s. However, they cater to blue hairs evidently. Steaks and lobster were unseasoned. They did offer garlic salt at the table. Be sure to ask for extra butter. That’s a joke. They are definitely busy on the weekends. Went on a Monday. Great mixed drinks. Cool factor– charcoal cooked steaks. They just need to season them b4 they touch the old fashioned grill. Can’t eat at the bar. Must have a table.

Great place with very friendly staff. The drinks are awsome and the bartenders were very friendly. Love the history of the place. The homemade dressings and deserts were fantastic. The filets we had were not the best cut of meat kind of fatty and the lobster tail was not cooked well.

I don’t know what the bad reviews were about a couple of weeks ago… perhaps the owners saw and made some changes because my experience was fantastic. My husband is trying to convince me to go back again today when we just went last night! My steak was cook perfectly. The lobster was amazing anf the potato? To die for. Give this place a chance. For me it was definitely worth it.

I’ve eaten here a half dozen times or more over the course of about 5 years. I really enjoyed this place but it seems like the last 2 – 3 times I’ve eaten here, the quality has gone way way down(along with the amount of butter they give you in your baked potato, not that I need a whole stick). We ate there last week for our anniversary and my ribeye was nothing but fat and gristle. The lobster tail was either over cooked or just of poor quality because it had absolutely no flavor. When you’re paying over $ 100 for a meal you expect a little more. I remember feeling the same way the time before that too but just chalked it up to an isolated experience. Now I see a pattern developing and I’m disappointed. Hopefully they can get their act together because it used to be a real treat to eat here.

I would give this only one star if it weren’t for the bleu cheese salad dressing that I could eat with a spoon. Otherwise this place was good 20 years ago. Or maybe I just had zero expectations back then. Either way this place will remind you of your grandparents musty old home that they will never leave. The food is terrible, and the pound of butter that comes with the potato is just gross. I don’t know why anyone would be a regular here. Save your money and go elsewhere.

The building is part of Wisconsin history. Visiting the 3rd floor is a must and will give you a hint of what life was like back in the 1800’s. Stand in silence and just peer into the rooms. They busted theirs and we have it better because of it. I couldn’t stop reading everything on the 2nd floor. The food is great, but if I had to pay what I did to only experience what I did upstairs I’d happily do it again.

Actually, this placed is way over priced and the quality of food is really not as great as I expected. Lobster tail was not cooked correctly and the steak was way off of my requested type. Very disappointed with the service as they are extremely slow and there’s staff everywhere. It was 15+ minutes before the waitress came to my table. When you get a plate, they slap a wedge size butter on your plate; the size of a piece of cheesecake, which is a complete waste. Regardless if it’s part of history on why they do it. Kind of retarded to me. For the disappointing quality of food, I think the high price of food is to pay the huge staff you see on Friday’s and Saturday’s, when the service is not great. If you visit this establishment, you must go upstairs to the gallery, it has a lot of history and you will see things probably that would blow your mind. That was the highlight of my experience at this establishment.

If you’re looking for Wisconsin steak place without having to drive way up North — You’ve got it here! Pros: Steak(I had the ribeye), waitstaff, the Brandy Alexander Icecream, homemade salad dressing Cons: Bartenders(a bit cold), rolls(if you care about them? they were just regular decent plain), very simple salad(but hey its a no frills old school wisconsin steak place) Went here a week before Easter. It was crowded with all types of Wisconsin. Table had all cuts of steak, some lobster, shrimp, even chicken. I can only speak for my meal — ribeye medium was perfect. Well ‘fatted’ but not too much. Potato with the lb of butter? *check Salad sampled with all the dressings let me know someone was making these in the back. Very good! Grilled onions — a TON. Mushrooms. Great. Order the Brandy Alexander Ice cream. I think they call it ‘ice’? Its literally the size of your head… brandy alexander ice cream on top of /in a martini glass. 3 people working hard and we couldn’t finish it! Avoid problems: Make reservations!!!

We went here on news years eve. He ordered a $ 30 porterhouse medium rare came out extremely well done. The server came back after like 20 mintues he lost his appetite so asked her to take the steak she said she’ll throw another on. He said no that’s ok were done. She gave him a huge attitude like its our fault the steak is way over cooked. I had the fillet medium it was pink in center but completely charded on the outside. Couldnt enjoy it. Not going back

We had a great meal here. It’s an old school supper club type place. Parking can be a challenge but the drinks, steaks and lobster bisque are top notch. The place could stand to be updated with some new carpet but I liked the big tables, friendly people and the fun/creepy museum.

I’ve been coming to Wilmot Stage Stop ever since I can remember! This was always a place that my family came to celebrate special events, birthdays, graduations and so on. So this restaurant has a special place in my memory — mainly because the food is pretty darn memorable! One of the first things I love about this place, is the historical significance it offers. It’s an old hotel from the days of the Gold Rush and it even has the museum upstairs to prove it! I love going upstairs and seeing the old hotel rooms frozen in their original forms. That is definitely a must-see when you visit. But beware of the narrow steps to go upstairs(they’re like 5 inches deep– people back then must of had small feet!) and the floor boards in front of the rooms, which are a bit worn. The décor of the remainder of the building attempts to take you back to its hay day, with the striped wallpaper and the lanterns on the walls. It’s a good attempt, but the music that plays while you eat takes me back to New Orleans, rather than the music of an 19th century hotel. Although in their defense, I really don’t know what that is supposed to sound like, I just figured it’s not like New Orleans Jazz. Now the food. Their menu is pretty basic — meat, meat, and more meat. If you’re a bodybuilder, come here because you’ll get your protein fix. But if you aren’t(like the majority of the patrons), you’ll still enjoy your food. I normally get the chop steak, which is just epic. I sometimes branch out to other areas of beef, which are equally as good. Their meat always is great quality– I prefer mine cooked medium rare. In addition to the meats, they offer some pretty great soups. I prefer the award winning Cream of Lobster– simply delicious. You also get a house salad with homemade dressings which are simply mouthwatering. I also enjoy adding a lobster tail for $ 9.95. It’s certainly worth the extra charge. The butter they service with it comes with its own personal tea light candle, and it brings your butter to the perfect temperature for dipping your lobster tail in. Lastly, you get a monster baked potato that comes with a chunk of butter that will make any cardiologist cringe. But, hey, it adds flavor. If you plan on visiting the Stage Stop, be prepared for a hefty bill, but it is so worth it. Also, remember that no credit cards are accepted(which is extremely inconvenient in my opinion — they need to change that). But anyway, if you’re traveling through the area, definitely pay Wilmot Stage Stop a visit.
