Being here was like being in Bizarro World. Having been to Palm Springs multiple times before, where there’s a huge Gaymart, I was expecting something similar out of this one. This Wilton Manor iteration is half the size of the one in Palm Springs. They have similar items(the obligatory supply of Andrew Christians, as well as GoSoftwear, Cellblock etc), but not nearly as much selection. And so it just feels very strange.(I had the same feeling going to the Hunters in Wilton Manors too) The store is a little bit of a disappointment for me, but I can appreciate the convenience of a store like this near some of the main bars — sometimes you don’t realize you need that bottle of lube until you’re already out drinking. With that said, if you’re looking for more of a selection of items during the day, you may want to check out Pride Factory(which is a few miles away) instead. Far more stuff there.

The name gets 5-stars, but the place gets 3. I mean, how can you not love the name?! Anyhow, Gaymart has been a staple on the drive for years. For as long as I’ve lived here I’ve heard that this place was closing– never mind those rumors. They are constantly adding new merchandise, updating the store albeit not THAT much, but still, updating it none-the-less. The staff is always friendly; greeting you immediately and helping you with any questions you have. Now the good, not my «goods», but the merchandise. They sell shirts, tanks, shorts, underwear, jocks, lube– oh my! This place has a wide variety of everything. Some of the prices can be a little high, however, compared to most«gay merchandise» it’s pretty standard. Now not everything is my style here– a lot of cargo shorts and shirts with too many pockets of the complete opposite– clothing where my nuts are exposed– not my thing either. Fortunately there is a happy medium.

As the name implies, it’s a Mart, for clothing and fashion. and it’s Gay as hell(caters to gay men). I LOVE this place. It has unique hard to find clothing items that you won’t find just anywhere. Looking for those tight short booty shorts? Looking for that sleeveless thin hoodie? Perhaps some leather sequins chaps? You’ll find it all here… AND the prices are reasonable. The workers here have always been friendly and super helpful. Just stocked up on a bunch of stuff here because the prices are wayyyyy more reasonable than San Fran or Weho. 1 star for friendly service 1 star for unique hard to find items 1 star for being a super gay friendly business, but accepting of all 1 star for great low prices And just like Ah-nold, but with a gay twist, «I’ll be back… to do more shopping!»

Just here when I visit Fort. Lauderdale, the store was dirty… the clerk was a old mean lesbian that looked and acted pissed off. Kinda looks like a underwear store at a flea market…

Cute. A balance of kitsch and practical. Kind of like if a highway convenient store attached to a gas station… but glorified for WM. You can find some cheap accessories there for your… private moments. And I will most definitely have to make the time to further peruse their HILARIOUS card selection!

This is a long standing business that caters to the community in the Wilton Manors area. The store has a lot of options for the gay man. The surrounding community is a haven in South Florida for the gay community and you can be sure that there is no stigma in this area as they are an integral and valuable cultural contributing members of the community. Always a great place for locally owned businesses that anyone might.enjoy.

Great place to grab some last minute swim wear before I boarded my Caribbean Cruise in early December.(sorry for the late review) I was not able to find swim wear in a pinch in California. Next time I’m in Fort Lauderdale, I will be stopping in to say hello and make a few more purchases! I wish I could remember the gentleman’s name who helped me(Mike? Patrick?) Either way he was great! My friends bought a few items as well. Feels good to spend my money in an LGBT business.

I guess this is a must-do while on any jaunt to Wilton Manors. I mean, come on. The name is hilarious. Why am I in Wilton Manors? Another story for another review, I suppose. Because of the play on the name, I was led to believe that this was some kind of K-Mart for gay men. I assumed that maybe this was a one-stop shop where Wilton Manors goes to buy lawn and garden equipment, and maybe checks out the blue light special in aisle 5. «Attention Gay Mart shoppers?» Nope, not to be. It’s mostly a clothing emporium aimed at gay men. There’s a whole wall devoted to flashy underwear that I, as a straight guy(let’s get that out of the way, in case there was any… ummm…“confusion”) would never wear. But, if one of your life’s designs is to walk around San Francisco’s Castro district in nothing but your skivvies, you might want to first stop in to this here Gay Mart and check out the goods. They might end up supporting *your* «goods,» who knows…

So where do the gays go to do their shopping and where do they get some of those good sexy looking threads? Gay Mart, of course! Located in the Shoppes at Wilton Manor is Gay Mart, a clothing store with a selection basically with a focus toward gay men. Now if you thought that gay men and straight men wore the same clothing, you’re only partially correct. Not all men’s attire is interchangeable between the two. Some gay guys do wear straight clothing, but some straight guys do wear clothing that even a bull dyke lesbian wouldn’t be caught dead wearing, let alone a gay guy. Anyway, now that I’ve probably either enlightened everyone or simply insulted the humorless, I can talk about the clothing. There seems to be endless sales going on here. All of the prices seem reasonably good but all of the quality isn’t. So, you have to be a shrewd consumer in order to get the best. Many of the items are sort of novelty in a way or have stupid little logos or sayings on them. Now, if you don’t really know the meaning of those logos or sayings, particularly if you are straight, a metrosexual or just plain naïve, you best find out before you buy. Just ask the clerk, he’ll be sure to know and you knowing can save you from some serious embarrassment. For example, words like«pitcher» or «catcher» have nothing whatsoever to do with baseball; and lord help you if you buy that sailor’s shirt that says«seafood» on the back of it.

It’s a tradition to swing by Gaymart on the way to Alibi or Boom. It’s a great place to purchase swimsuits, trendy clothing, etc.; but I have my best luck there with sale items; i.e. underwear, shoes, etc. The best part, you can already hear the bass beating in the store from Boom next door. You might find yourself dancing around the store!

A cute place to find a last-minute tanktop for clubbing. I enjoyed muscular fellow clients who were pleasantly flirtatious in the fitting room(no, not like that). Quite a few eye candies and a large selection of clothing. Yes, I would visit again.

It is rumored that GayMart is struggling and may close. I’ll keep you posted, but, with the poor service and just«ok» clothes, I’m not surprised… See below: GayMart, in the Shoppes at Wilton Manors, is a semi-trendy place to find sportswear, club wear, jeans, trunks, t-shirts, cards, and accessories. Though some of the clothes are«cool», the prices are high for the quality of merchandise, which tends to be low. Gaymart clerks often don’t greet guests as they enter, shop, or leave the premises. In my experience, a little extra customer service can make a big difference in the competitive retail market that exists in Wilton Manors. GayMart is probably best used as a source for trendy swim-trunks and t-shirts. Price: C(high price for sometimes poor quality) Service: B(not always friendly, don’t always greet visitors) Atmosphere: B(a nice retail space but poorly organized and a bit hodge-podge.) Front End: B(again, not very friendly, even when they take your money) Location: A(2.3 miles from downtown Ft. Lauderdale) Valet parking: NA — Onsite shopping center parking Overall: B– Recommendations: Go to Tops and Bottoms, or any retail chain. You’ll get similar quality for a more reasonable price.
