My very first new patient appointment was scheduled over the phone approximately 3 weeks ago, the time and date were set and I recorded it on two different calendars. The appointment was made for 10am on a Monday morning, the Friday before I got a «courtesy call» at exactly 4:15pm, the message simply said«in regards to your appointment on Monday, please call us back for further instructions». The call went to voicemail and of course I didn’t get the message until the office was already closed. ** I’d like to point out Here that if the woman who left the message had simply stated my appointment time(that was apparently different than what I had recorded) this whole mishap could have been avoided.** Knowing that usually there is a fair amount of paper work to tend to on your first visit I showed up at 9:40 for my 10 o’clock appointment. The lobby was a ghost town, no exaggeration; I opened the door and saw no one. It wasn’t until I proceeded and got about 2 feet from the front desk that I saw who I assume is the receptionist. Mind you I walked into a silent empty lobby, closed the door, banged around(because you see I had my 4 month old in tow in her clunky carrier) I marched up to the desk sat my bag on the counter… No greeting, no response(no she wasn’t on the phone) I sat the baby/carrier on the floor… still nothing?! Then I took over«Hi, I’m Ashley and I have a 10 o’clock appointment» Her response verbatim«Oh, actually it was at 9:30, sorry» I swear if I had walked out she wouldn’t have said a word. I worked in a medical office in this town for 11 years, that’s not how this situation should have been handled. When I said«That’s odd, I recorded it in two places as being at 10am» she shrugged! She actually looked at me and shrugged. I woke my infant up got her changed and dressed to load up and head in for my appointment at the Shiny New Doctors Office and it was by far the most disappointing first impression I have ever encountered. I have another appointment scheduled for next week and I’ll give it a go once more, but I’m already disgusted with the lack of compassion and professionalism displayed. Had I been given and explanation«I’m sorry, I know it looks empty but he has back to back appointments starting in 15 minutes» or «Oh my, I’m so sorry about the miscommunication» or even and unsolicited opportunity to reschedule I might not be so annoyed, but I literally waited and when nothing was presented said«Ok, so I suppose I should reschedule something then, right?» If this is going to be self-serve medicine then good luck, Wimberley already has some of that. I’m not looking for any type of consolation or notice of action; I’m writing this because if this happened in my clinic I’d want to know how utterly disappointed my client had been so that I could put into place practices and/or policies in an attempt to prevent any future frustrations.
