Ever since I discovered my love and passion for long distance running during the summer before ninth grade, I have dreamt of running a marathon. In high school, at the height of my racing career, I herniated two discs in my back. I consulted multiple doctors in the Boston Area to see what I could do. One doctor told me that I would never run again, but I was certain that my running days were not over. With great fortune I found my running guardian angel, Fay Manei( ), an incredible physical therapist. She and I worked together for six months, and the hard work paid off because I was able to resume running. Over the past five years I have raced in four of half-marathons, run numerous 5k/10k road-races, and rekindled my competitive racing edge. This year I will be running the New York City Marathon, and I have endless gratitude to Fay for helping me get to where I am today with running.

Boston Back Rehab Center is an incredible resource located right in the heart of beautiful Winchester Center. After struggling for years with neck and back pain, I contacted them after receiving a piece in the mail. I was elated to learn that the center was started by two incredibly warm and devoted women with deep academic backgrounds, Dr. Fay Maneii with a Masters and Doctorate in Adult Orthopedics and Melissa Milling with a Masters in Public Heath, training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and deep knowledge and formal training in Pilates and Ballet. After a thorough consultation, I immediately started working one-on-one with Fay in personally designed sessions once a week. Through these sessions I learned the basics of proper stretching, balance, core strength, posture and ergonomics. Things I knew were important but needed technical guidance and instruction on. After practicing with Fay over an 8 week period, I then graduated and started working with Melissa and Fay together who hold weekly group classes that support all processes relating to back, spine and core strengthening — a weekly Pilates and Yoga class on Saturday mornings. I have been taking the classes now for 11 weeks and I have learned so much thanks to both of them. If anyone is suffering from back trouble or if back and spine health are something you need or want to focus on, you should contact Boston Back Rehab Center. The one on one support and integrative therapies and programs they develop are life changing and their nurturing and unique approach to back and spine are unlike anything that exists. They are a private practice devoted to this specific issue and they are fantastic both professionally and personally.
