This was a really cute winery and I really enjoyed my time chatting with the owner. Hamon Haven Winery has been opened for a year(Spring 2014). They are located outside of Lexington, Kentucky. Tastings are from Monday through Saturday, however you must call ahead of time and schedule. They offer light food(cheese and meat trays), winery and vineyard tours available, and small private parties/events welcome with reservations. All above please call. What I love about their wine list is that it’s simple(8 on the list) and not overwhelming. Here is what we tried: *Catawba — The Catawba is an American cultivar best known to exhibit mango and tropical characteristics. The grape is used to make a blush, fragrant wine with strawberry-like flavors. This was my least favorite, only because I am not a huge fan of Catawba grape. But this red wine still had a great flavor. *Chardonel — Chardonel is a grape used to make a pleasant white wine similar to one of its parents – Chardonnay. It has been known to exhibit apple, buttery, citrus(general), fig and pear characteristics. *Seyval Blanc — This grape produces a white wine with vibrant fruit flavors, reminiscent of pears and citrus fruit. This full-bodied wine is well balanced, semi-dry and fills the palate with apricots, supported by a citrus background. My favorite! I definitely bought a bottle of this! *Traminette — Traminette is a white wine with an elegant, floral aroma, and wonderful, spicy flavor of its parent — the Gewürztraminer. *Chambourcin — This French/American hybrid produces red wines of light to medium body with fruity aromas. It exhibits cherry and earthy/spicy complexities. *Norton — This is a robust red wine. Flavors found in this wine include coffee, chocolate, spice, raspberry, plum, and cherries on the nose, and palate and a unique, but intriguing flavor profile, soft on first taste but firming up with a good core of acidity in the finish. *Blackberry — This common fruit contains vast amounts of anthocyanocides, which are powerful antioxidants that help to reverse cell damage caused by free radicals, and are reported to be instrumental in preventing heart disease, cancer and strokes. This wine maintains the distinct blackberry flavor, slightly sweet and full bodied, pairing well with desserts, chocolate, or enjoyed by itself as an apéritif. They had chocolate/dark chocolate out for us to try and WOW! It really paired well with this wine! Very delish! *Chardonnay — A light, crisp, fresh white wine. Semi dry with hints of apple, pear and citrus flavors. Wine pricing is very reasonable. Starting at $ 14.00 on up. Tasting is $ 5.00 but if you buy a bottle, tasting is free and you get the souvenir glass with it! Beautiful vineyards, patio and love the set up of the tasting room(very clean and open). I really enjoyed my time at Hamon Haven Winery and I recommend you stop by! The owners are very friendly!
