I just got back from their drive thru on University. After I paid the cashier for ten boneless angel wings, she simply walked off and was never to be seen. Meanwhile, a heavyset Hispanic female employee twiddled her thumbs, looked at the ceiling and texted while I waited for my food in the pouring rain. After a good ten minutes of doing this, she sighed and begrudgingly gave me my order. I have never encountered an employee as blatantly inconsiderate and disrespectful as this person.

Very huge fan of it! Awesome food for party or if you are just craving for fried chicken! Freshly cooked and big portion! We had fried chicken and chicken wings! They were totally worth the price and reputation!

Note: The University Parkway location has moved to 5954 University Parkway(Probably ½ mile further North) I stopped in to check out the new digs and I like them. Maybe slightly less seating than the 5475 location. The woman at the counter was patient and friendly and I perused the menu. I settled on the«Wing Special» of 10 wings, 8 wedges, and a roll. I added a Cheerwine on to that as well(obviously). The total was about $ 10.00. I had my food in about 45 seconds and settled in. The wings were large. Well seasoned and juicy. You can eat them plain or add any of the sauces available(BBQ, Honey Mustard, Texas Pete). I liked them all but stuck mostly with the Honey Mustard. The wedges were mostly good with a couple of the bigger ones being slightly undercooked. The side items and desserts looked really tempting on the hot bar. I look forward to going back!

I saw this name on Smitty’s note as the #1 chicken place in WS… So a foods over like me HAD to try it! Three girls and one boy ordered 50 wings and Mac&cheese and fried apples. And let me tell you, we devoured it!!! It was REALLY good!!! And the price is quite affordable!!!

I must concur with all that martyr said. Having lived in 20 different cities across the us, these are still the best wings I have ever had and I miss them dearly.

Sorry Martyr X, I have to agree with Kevin. The location is sketchy and the food is too. Not nearly the place that I remember from the mid-1990’s. I once would have scoffed at heading to a chain chicken place instead, now I say run!

ok, i had to write a review after randomly looking up my FAVORITEWINGPLACEOFALLTIME and seeing this joker give them a 2 star review from 2008!!! this is not a review of this particular mtn fried(i have been to almost all of them), more an endorsement of mtn friend chicken in general. so, first off, in the previous review Kevin G. refers to the cops are eating at the restaurant — that is huge +++++++, because cops love to get fat eating awesome food. any where that cops eat is going to be dope! have you ever eaten anywhere, seen cops also dining there, and left hungry and unsatisfied? i think not! also, he discredits this mtn friend by talking about another mtn fried location(akron, off of 52), which just doesn’t make any sense. ok, enough harping, on to the food. i went to college in winston, and lived on this stuff for 4 years — tailgates, frat parties, camping, lunch, dinner(sometimes both). i’ve also eaten my fair share of cold, day old mtn fried — still fantastic. i hope you like fried objects, because that is almost exclusively what they have. but, lets be honest, if you don’t, you wouldn’t be eating in a place called mtn fried. fried chicken, potato wedges, and some southern sides. but you always get the wing special — about a dozen wings and potato wedges(if you’re really hungry, get the moose, which contains larger chunks of fried chicken). the breading is just right, not too heavy but enough to soak enough fry grease to make the chicken super tasty. potato wedges are breaded in a similar batter(not as heavily, though). i have seen people get the other sides, but the potato wedges are definitely the go to side. why? i haven’t even told you the best part yet…*drumroll*…because of the NUCLEARORANGEHOTBUFFALOSAUCE!!! i would kill to get my hands on this stuff. i can’t understand why its not being mass produced. this stuff is so orange, you think its going to eat through your plate. and its so delicious — i have spent many a meal with the spicy sweats, wing crumbs and orange hot sauce all over my hands and face(a medical condition known as «sauce-face»). bottom line: if you are a wing lover, go to mtn fried. i dont care if its this location, another location, or even the food cart at the wake forest tailgates, just go. and pile up on the sauce. and remember, as their slogan says, ITSNOTGREASY!

Tried this place again the other day and it still isn’t what I remember from years ago. The portions are smaller. Even the chicken pieces are smaller. But still Texas Pete at your beckoning and chances are there is a sheriffs deputy in the building at all times. NOTSECURITY. EATING. Which I guess either way is a good thing. You guys gotta get some bigger chickens. There is a place on Akron right off 52 with the biggest, juiciest chicken I ever had. Of course thats in the projects so you better be hungry and ready. And don’t mind marge’s sawed off.
