I have been bellydancing on and off again for more than 10 years and absolutely love the meaning and beauty of the dance(which is never mentioned in any class). Then 3 years ago I went island hopping in Hawaii, visited a luau and fell even more in love with the hula dance because the meaningful storytelling component was inspiring and beautiful. The dancers were mesmerizing and incredible – fluidly combining ancient and modern dance variations. I have never seen the hula dance like that since. After the luau, I headed to Waikiki market the next day and bought a hula skirt. Been intending to start ever since – but as with everything timing has to be right. I finally made it Today to Halau Na Pua Mai Ka Lani Nuioka – and I am officially in love with hula dance. Tristan and Chris are awesome and welcoming! I adored that the meaning of the dance movement and Hawaiian words were discussed and proper form was underscored. Both Tristan and Chris were great historians! We will definitely be back.

I am currently taking hula lessons here and having a blast! We meet once a week on Sundays and for only $ 15, we get an intensive three hour dance class that includes an hour of basics/warm-up, our dance repertoire, movement clean up and learning a new dance. The teachers are both very passionate about hula and you can really see that they truly enjoy teaching others. They also have free introductory classes on the first Sunday of every month so be sure to check it out!
