Went here today with a very good friend of mine for breakfast. A nice old time diner, just the way I like ‘em.This was my 3rd visit and I had another great breakfast. Owner and cook Don is a friendly guy and knows his way around the grill. He is a grill master for sure. Great prices, great people, and good chow that’s what you’ll find here. Opens 4:30 am. Closed Mon. and Tues. cash only. If you have a big appetite like I do, try“the mess”. Simply awesome…

Solid diner fare. Friendly staff, slightly run down, but still worth a visit. Sadly breakfasts only(but opens at 4, early birds take note).

The Green Island Diner is my childhood. Let me tell you why… When I was in the 5th or 6th grade, my Dad would let me come to work with him at his part-time job(now full-time) during my Summer vacation. Half the time was spend on the computer reading Backstreet Boys fan fiction(don’t judge me, admit it, you did it too), half the time was doing the job of someone who had an engineering degree(I’m not lying on this one, I got to play with big ovens and everything!). Afterwards, we both would be ravenously hungry. We were still living in Worcester at the time, so we would always go to the Green Island Diner. I loved coming here. I loved everything about this diner. The only seats were at the counter top. I could watch the one guy that worked their making my delicious breakfast while I happily sipped on my chocolate milk. This was the type of diner that had the wood encased refrigerators and freezers. My mind is a little hazy on the details of what I got, but I always got breakfast, even thought it was 11:30 at night. I remember there were always homefries piled on the grill. I remember the simple menu that was posted above the stove. I remember there was always another guy or two sitting at the counter top with us. My Dad would chat up the owner, who was always really nice, and then he would teach me about all the stuff we had did that night(when I stopped the BSB fan fiction thing) and I would ask him a million questions. Crap, I’m getting all sentimental. But you know what? I don’t care. This place reminds me of my happy summers spending time with my Dad. I don’t really get to do it a lot anymore, since I live kind of far away and he works 2 jobs(again). I asked him if he remembered the place, but he only remembered what street it was on. However, he did tell me that it’s still open! So, the next time I find myself in Worcester, I’m definitely taking my Dad here.
