This is by far the best course I have ever participated and volunteered at. There is NEVER a charge for parking! There are several obstacles and the scenery is great! I definitely recommend this for any skill level that wants to try a mud run… If you can’t do an obstacle you just skip it but they are all doable for an average person.

This was my first mud event… Honestly I was nervous. But this was awesome. Professionally run, great value, challenging creative course yet totally doable. I was worried about dragging across the finish line, and chickening out of obstacles… I did ever single one, all five miles and I had an absolute blast! I can’t wait to go back and push myself harder! I never found those warm showers but the free cold beer made up for it. I love the free professional photos! I’m planning on volunteering this fall and going back next May on a free ticket! They run tons of promos and specials. The crowd was very friendly. Family and friends can come for free!

I won a free ticket to the Cedar Lake Mud Run at the GO! half marathon expo. My boyfriend and I decided to check it out, and traveled out to Wright City. The course was fun, but somewhat dangerous. Prepare to get very wet, especially with a high jump/slide into a pit of water. Afterward we went to the Cedar Lake Winery, which had a pretty lake view. Overall, I had a great time! I have never done anything like that before… and you get a bright yellow shirt to remember the experience. Would I pay $ 100 to do it? Probably not, but for free I had a great time!

So much fun! Great course and obstacles. Really well supported and organized. Had a blast… A bit sore the next day, but that is expected. WE did the 5 mile course which had plenty of opportunities to get wet and muddy. There were three opportunities to get submerged in water, plenty of climbing, crawling, clawing through muddy situations. I would do it again for sure. Challenging course, but not too difficult. There were people in various physical conditions doing the event, though many were fit. Thank god for the showers at the end. It will probably take a few showers to get back to normal. :)

The Battlegrounds is a first class event in every aspect. With my extensive background in timing and managing events, I was blown away with the organization, venue and post-race atmosphere of the event. The course is a permanent mud run facility with the ability to change the order, distance and type of obstacles from race to race. it truly is a runner’s course with awesome views, creeks, woods, prairies, fire AND a gigantic slide. But it doesn’t stop there, the post-race party is where the action is. First you get to rinse off in warm showers, but then the cool part is the race is hosted at a winery! A plethora of good food, live entertainment, wine and beer makes this one of my top choices for events in the area. A little insider’s hint… make sure you do the VIP Package. I got to experience this last year, right next to the band, all the food and drink I could handle. Perfection. I definitely recommend checking out The Battlegrounds. You’ll thank me for it.
