Driving to Seattle we needed a spot for a delicious light lunch and their Bento box hit the spot! Plenty of rice, just enough meat and a nice assortment of cooked, pickled and fresh vegetables from near and far. I’ve been to Japan once and this was pretty authentic! Get your bento box and head to the little park next door for a picnic. Quick and delicious, now back on the road.

Take out only? Never heard of this place. Drove around the block twice trying to find it. Walk in and only two Asian ladies on the floor. Menu without pictures. Relatively cheap honestly. They explain they do not advertise. Only by word of mouth. Gyoza, Dragon roll, spider roll. The Gyoza is ridiculousy good. The sauce is balanced well. Starts off smokey salty and ends in a nice hotness. Really really good. Exceptional really. Sushi was also really interesting. A lot of subtle flavors that came in waves. Perfect rice, texture and flavor. Eat here. Amazing.

Since my last review I’ve been back several times. The menu here is so extensive that I get to try something new almost every time. This place hits home runs all through its menu. I tried the curry bao, a nice change of pace from the BBQ pork(a favorite of mine). They do Okonomiyaki here, off menu. The texture was a bit softer than I’ve had elsewhere. It was huge! More than enough for a whole meal. They do a variety of fillings, but the octopus was suggested to me. The slight fishy flavor and little chewy morsels contrasted nicely with the soft pancake and sweet/creamy sauces on top. I also finally tried the bento box, which came with all sorts of goodies: teriyaki chicken, bamboo, nori, carrots, steamed cabbage, just to name a few, on a big bed of rice. The shiitake mushroom in the box was especially delicious. I highly recommend this place for a takeout meal(or a snack, they have musubi, hum bao, sushi): you can’t go wrong anywhere in their extensive menu.

Love this place! The food here is really good and fresh. I usually get the gyoza and sweet pork buns. The lady is very nice and loves welcoming newcomers!

I came in to the place expecting great things based off of the other reviews here. While the food was not bad(by any means), I don’t feel like it was anything particularly extraordinary. My mum and I have been trying sushi places in Yakima as we find them ever since our favorite placed changed management and the old sushi chef we adored isn’t there anymore. We’ve yet to find a place we liked as much. Based on what we read here, we thought, this might be it. This might be our replacement. But it’s not. The Chicken Yakisoba was beautifully boxed, smelled great, had a great flavour, but was a fair bit more dry than we’re accustomed to(and prefer) in our yakisoba. Not a deal breaker since our main desire was the sushi. The Cuke/Eel roll was good! Could have used a little bit more eel, I feel it was overpowered by the cucumber. And the rice was more bland than what we prefer. I know the rice isn’t supposed to be anything –special– in sushi, but it should have a little bit more than just rice flavours. I think the old sushi chef at the place we liked before it changed management put a little bit of rice vinegar and mirin in the sushi rice(I’m not sure though as we never asked). The Yakima roll was strange. The smoked salmon had wonderful flavour, but was again, overwhelmed by the counter-part(apple this time). Speaking of which though, apple felt very strange in the sushi. Sweet and unorthodox, and just didn’t seem quite right. I also had a Red Bean Steamed Bao. This, I am SO pleased with. Absolute favorite part of the whole order for me. I have a massive weak spot for red bean paste, and it’s hard finding it in Yakima. I’ll definitely be coming back for more of these, even if nothing else. Mum had a Pork and Vegetable Bao. She said the bread had a strangely sweet taste to it that didn’t really work with the savory filling. But she had high praise for the filling. Overall, we were kind of disappointed. There were so many high praises sung here, and I feel like it just fell short of the expectations set up here. The food is good, but nothing to write home about with the exception of the Bao, in my opinion.

Absolutely amazing! I was in town for 3 days doing an install and came across this place after the first day let out. I returned 2 more times before leaving town because it was just that good. Everything they make is flavorful and delicious. Whatever it is that they do to their rice is one of the things that helps make it perfect. I felt that I’d gotten my moneys worth for each visit and every time I wanted more. I didn’t get to go back on the last day in town as I had a few hours to drive after the day ended, but I wish I’d of gone back once more. Only one pitfall… take out only. I’d of liked to sit and enjoy the food with something to drink while I was there. It’s still a 5 star place, even being takeout only. Go and enjoy some delicious sushi

i am a sushi snob and thats because I used to work as a sushi chef for the past two years. I also make a lot of my own Japanese food as a lot of japanese places where I’m from had some pretty crappy stuff outside of sushi. This place does both sushi and Japanese dishes amazingly well. I had the takoyaki, negi-hama and an okonomiyaki with octopus. I got pretty full off the takoyaki and negi-hama roll but at the okonomiyaki anyway cause I’m a fatass and it was that good. The prices are really low also. Its probably because its takeout only but that shouldn’t deter you from eating this magnificent shop’s food. Take your order to the nearby Franklin Park and eat it there. I still can’t believe this place is in Yakima. I’ll be going at least once a week.

The area is quiet, there’s all kinds of greenery around and its so clean inside and the tea sets are so tempting to buy. The sushi is AMAZING, everything was fresh and wonderful and fantastic service, no one nicer. I can’t waaaaiiiit to eat here again! Soon!

This is the best and most authentic Japanese food in town, hands down. It is a shame they are carry-out only, but I am sure that helps keep the prices down. I always call in my order at about 11:45 and it has been ready to pick up on my lunchbreak and I have never had to wait. They have this stuff down to a science. They have a weekly special(with pics if you follow them on Facebook) and I try it each week and have never been disappointed. The cook does something amazing to the rice so it’s flavorful(subtly) and so minimal soy sauce is needed. This was apparent in the spam musubi(try it!!!) and this week’s special, the pork cutlet and egg katsu donburi(so good I may get it again this week while it is on special!) I also highly recommend the curry-veggie steamed bao, as well as the scallop takoyaki. Finally, their sushi is amazing and for a really great price. Normally I would just keep ordering sushi(because, delicious) but as I have worked my way through the menu, all of the other non-sushi dishes have also been so good, I am now confident that I don’t need to keep repeating the same boring order. Trying unfamiliar food at this place isn’t scary or traumatic. Everything has been DELICIOUS. All of the thumbs way, way up!

Wow, Nice Find!!! Was pleasantly surprised when we went into this little hole in the wall. This place is «take out» only but it makes up for it in service and quality of food. All of the items that we have ordered so far have been excellent and the owner bent over backwards to get a special order(Mochi) out for us. We also had the Bento box. One with Salmon and the other with Teriyaki Beef. Both were excellent with a nice variety of vegetables, seaweed, Gyoza, and Dumpling. Will definitely go again and again.

Best Gyoza I’ve had since moving back to Yakima. Can’t wait to return and try more of what these ladies have to offer! Incredibly friendly, we felt like regulars even though this was our first time. Excited to have found this little GEM!!! :-)

Good lord. This place was great. Funny town to find a kickass sushi place. It’s takeout only, but worth it. Super fresh, beautiful and delicious. I had a dragon roll and a small smoked salmon/apple roll. I’ll be back for sure.

Great little find on our road trip, thanks Unilocal! The sushi was fresh and delicious and beautiful to look at. The scallop dumplings we ordered were rich and delicious!!! If we lived in Yakima this would be a regular spot. Terrific takeout food.

I was in Yakima on accident and the last thing I thought I’d find in the area was a stellar sushi place — boy, was I wrong! Obento House is strictly take out, which I actually really enjoyed, and has a host of asian dishes from BBQ Pork Buns, Miso Soups to simple sushi and rolls. The fish was fresh and the staff /owner was absolutely delightful — I don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to eat there again, but I definitely recommend it to anyone cruising through!

Simply amazing. finding genuine artisan food like this is one of life’s gifts. I had a spicy tuna roll and something I’ve never had(rice around pickled vegetables). I enjoyed how the owner rated the spiciness, enough to make you cry or just to make you sweat. It was a good roll with great wasabi and picked ginger. The rice roll with picked vegetables was simply wonderful. The rice was so flavorful and the pickled vegetables were great. I seek out picked and fermented vegetables and these were outstanding. When in Yakama this is a MUST visit. Next time I’m in town I’ll head strait here.

This is not a restaurant but a take out kitchen storefront hidden in a little medical plaza. I was absolutely shocked to find this place while randomly walking in the area. The woman running the place is very courteous & does an amazing job. REALJAPANESEFOODINYAKIMA? I never thought it could be possible! But Obento House is servin’ it! Sashimi is not on the menu but she will make it if you ask. The rolls are huge and tasty. I also tried takoyaki(grilled seafood dumplings) for the first time and was blown away. The dumplings were soooo very tender and soft & simply delicious. Chicken gyoza were very yummy, too. I have been absolutely in love with every sushi/japanese creation I have had from Obento. But… my anti-fish partner was not pleased with either the beef sukiyaki nor teriyaki he has tried. The meat is in very small, chopped pieces and the sauce was rather sweet. :(So I guess I’ll be running by Burger Ranch for him after I pick up my sushi from now on. A real gem in this little town! But do try to stick to the sushi & bun/dumpling creations.
