This is a difficult review for me to write because I feel so conflicted about Kimberly’s. As far as the results, I would give the salon 5 stars. I have extremely curly, very thick hair — and it’s long! My roots, unhappily, are more gray, um — I mean silver(!), so I get them colored about once a month. When I leave the salon I KNOW my hair looks good, and this is all thanks to Valerie. She really knows what she is doing. One thing I particularly like about Valerie is that, since I like to change up the highlights in my hair, she always goes along with the changes but is careful to make sure that the color matches my complexion. Just because a color looks good on a model doesn’t mean it will look good on you, so it’s important to have someone give their professional but honest opinion. Also, Valerie is brave enough to blow-dry and flat iron my hair straight when I ask her to — no mean feat considering how curly and thick my hair is. She does a great job with that, too. My hair has tons of movement and shine when she’s done. But wait — there’s more!(As they say on those cheezy, late night infomercials.) My scalp can be sensitive to the dyes, so Valerie told me about a little trick: she adds packets of artificial sweetener to the squeeze bottle and it actually works! And just in case there is any residual sensitivity, she gives a terrific, thorough shampoo. So, you ask, if I am raving about Valerie, why only 5 stars? Well, the downside — and this is a big one for me — is that the way Kimberly’s schedules clients the stylists don’t concentrate on just one or two clients at a time, but on multiple ones. This means that, like this morning, I got shampooed and conditioned, but before the conditioner was washed off I was sitting with my head tilted back into the wash bowl interminably. My head was freezing! I had wet hair and a wet scalp and as soon as the warmth from the water wore off it got cold(especially because the air conditioner was on). I finally had to ask for someone to rinse me off so I could warm up. My appointment was at 9 and I didn’t leave the salon until 11:40. This was just for a touch-up — no cut or special styling(we just did a quick blow-dry to keep the curl). I only get 2 days a week off from work, as I suspect most people do, and this is just too much time to devote to getting my hair colored. If Kimberly would give her stylists more time between clients, and the wait time were cut down, I believe I would give this business at least one, and maybe even two, more stars. Come on, Kimberly — work with me here!
