We had just driven up to Aberdeen from London arriving at midnight and were looking forward to a good night sleep in a 4 star hotel. How disappointing! The elevator, lobby, room, furniture, etc. are very outdated. The bathroom wood features had many scuffs and scrapes, there was a big hole along the bath were the wood covered the base of the bath. The shower curtain kept sticking to my skin while taking a shower. The soaps were of poor quality(what I would expect of a 2 star hotel). There was no fan in the bathroom and a sign asking to keep the bathroom door closed while taking a shower so ended up with a fogged up bathroom and had difficulty breathing. The TV was small and very far from the bed. The bed was a double or a queen but definitely not king size. The mattress and pillows were very uncomfortable. There was no mini fridge just a big hole were we believe it used to be, the power points at the desks were so close to the desk it was impossible to plug anything with an adapter. There was no AC in the room just a very old and outdated heater. There was a rip in the carpet and the floor was very squeaky. We also got disturbed by the maid for room cleaning although we had the do not disturb sign on the door knob. Essentially, the room was so bad that we checked out early(staying only one night out of 2) and moved to a lovely 3 star guest house around the corner with a much nicer room. I was a bit surprised that the staff at reception did not ask me why I was checking out early and did not get a refund. There are 2 and 3 star hotels that are cheaper and much nicer than this one.

This 3-star review is contingent upon not paying full price for the room. I give it a solid«average» for the 50 quid we spent, but if we’d paid the full 200 pound regular price and gotten that room, I’d have been angry. As an economy hotel, it’s quite adequate, but it is not the luxury palace it advertises itself to be. The breakdown: The bed was quite comfortable. I actually wouldn’t mind knowing what mattresses they use there because I’d get one for myself. The«free» wifi is actually only free in the lobby. In the rooms, it’s something like £10 for a few hours of Internet usage. Imagine paying £200 for a mediocre room, and then having to pay more for wifi. Geez. The toilet required several flushes before it’d actually flush, and when it did, the pipes groaned loudly enough to wake up a sleeping person. I could hear the pipes do the same thing from adjacent rooms. The floors also squeak something fierce, no matter how lightly you tread. There were no washcloths in the bathroom. Okay maybe in a cheap-o place, but I’d expect more from a luxury property. The really scary elevator was the only way to get up and down. The stairs are for emergency use only. The elevator shudders and lurches, so this is not the place for you if you have any fear of them at all, since you don’t even have the option of taking the stairs. The place was pretty clean, and the staff a mixture of stiff & pretentious and warm & friendly. I didn’t eat there at all, but they have a restaurant and room service. It was really convenient to walk to shops and restaurants, being right in the city centre.
