This was my third time at Maggie’s Grill. I have to fess up though I do know Richard, one of the owners of the place. That wouldn’t affect my review but you should know. The first two times I was at Maggie’s was with my daughter and in a short time it has become a tradition for us to eat there when she comes home. The sandwiches are fantastic(I particularly recommend the Reuben) as is corn bread which is a big favourite when we go to the States. Maggie’s make theirs with a bit of a kick courtesy of peppers. It is lovely. This time I ate with a friend and it was a Tuesday evening about 7pm. The place was going like a fair with more than a few people being turned away because they hadn’t booked beforehand. I chose the Mixed BBQ Platter with a side of coleslaw and my companion had the Cheeseburger. Both were excellent and even though I am a big lad it was difficult to finsh the meal as there was so much. Maybe I’m getting to be a wimp in my old age. Corn bread was as usual excellent as were the mixed pickles that were also on the side. The restaurant is located near the Talisman building so when I saw Talisman beer on the menu I took that as a sign. The waitress also recommended it as she felt it had a citrussy edge. I love limes so that was enough to persuade me and it was an excellent beer. I enjoyed it so much I had a second. Along with a Root beer. I know it’s a strange combination buyt I find it hard to get Root beer so I take advantage of every opportunity. :-) Maggies used to sell Budweiser and I was a little disappointed that it is no longer available but there is quite the range of craft beers also available so I can’t complain too much. Needless to say I will be back.
