I just love this place. This is one of not so many restaurants I’ve been so far that deserve full 5 stars and for every time I’ve been there so far since they’ve opened! I love that little cosy atmosphere(no shouting of loud music) with the support of local artists, local sourcing of ingredients and fresh cuisine. No matter what I have tried — whether fish, meat or vegetable dish, all of them are full of lovely taste but not too overpowering. Also, I don’t normally drink gin and tonic — but if you go there, try! In the evening they have their special cocktails — I’ve tried turkish delight and I could get drank on just that :] Little tip — the mood can change from the casual/hipster lunch to evening dressy dinner. If you go for a lunch you will get all the lovely treats a bit cheaper :) going at the evening is really for me just for special occasion as usually, they are overbooked anyway: O

Moonfish was widely recommended to us for our visit to Aberdeen, and I booked a couple of weeks in advance for a Saturday night. Loads of people showed up on the night hoping to get a table — so that’s my word of warning, if you want to eat here you’ll have to book! The restaurant is in a bit of a strange location(but then, I think that’s just Aberdeen) so you’ll definitely want to check where you’re going before you set out. It’s a small, romantically-lit restaurant(read: dark, with candles) with nice artwork and the tables aren’t too close together. The menu is pretty simple — it lists dishes in a very basic way so you might want to ask the waitress for more information as it doesn’t necessarily give you an idea of what the dish is or how it’s cooked. Two courses is £30.95 and we both started with a gin from the huge list. I ordered the seabass escabeche(with shallot, sweet corn, sour cream, dill) and then the venison(with squash, pearl onion, pear). We were treated to an amuse bouche of sweet potato soup and nutmeg which was possibly the smoothest soup I’ve ever eaten. The seabass was nicely presented with delicate sprigs of dill. I wasn’t sure about the temperature as it was lukewarm which was a little unusual — I wouldn’t say unpleasant, but it was odd. The sour cream was lovely and creamy and bought the whole dish together well. Again, the venison was lovely and a good sized portion with quite a few generous slices. It was nice having the sweet touches of squash and pear on the plate. We had a look at the dessert menu but then decided we were too stuffed and would instead head elsewhere for a cocktail. This place comes in at a solid 4-stars. There wasn’t any one thing to stop it being that perfect 5 — the service was fine(perhaps a little too on the serious side) the food was lovely(but not out-of-this-world) and the price was pretty reasonable. I’m just not sure I’d rush back when I visit Aberdeen again.

This little place gets noisy once it’s restaurant is full(which is regular)! Delicious food, but even better Gin to accompany. Extensive list of local and imported gin to accompany dinner. The table water is served up in the empty bottles, nice touch. More towards the top end of the market for eating out, nice amuse bouche was given to us on recent business meal. Great place to head out with close friends or family too. Portion sizes a little small, but taste makes up for it.

A strong contender for favourite restaurant in Aberdeen: a great little hideaway where you’ll spend as long choosing your gin as you will choosing your food. Delicious!

This restaurant is a must visit when in Aberdeen. The owner and staff were friendly and provided outstanding service. Meal portions were perfect, and each selection was prepared flawlessly. The Halibut and the lamb was scrumptious and the carrot cake was to die for! We will most definitely return!

Had a great evening meal here, very inventive menu, the scallop /black pudding starter was excellent and the main courses all seemed good. Portion sizes are not large so enjoyed the cheese plate as well. Small restaurant so you should book in advance, it can be a bit noisy but the staff were very helpful.
