We were making our first visit to Pittodrie, and I figured a stop at Pittodrie Bar was an essential part of the process. Kick off was at 3pm and we arrived around 2pm to a totally heaving bar — as Sean T mentions in his review. Honestly, as soon we were in the door we didn’t have much room to move, it was properly standing-room only. Getting served at the bar took around 10 minutes which actually isn’t too bad of a wait with all those people looking to get their beers in. A Corona and a pint of Strongbow was less than £5. There were huge screens on showing the football which seemed to be what most people were doing — I guess you might as get warmed up for the real thing down the road. Overall, I didn’t mind this bar. The crowd were all pretty friendly and didn’t seem to mind when I had to make my way across to the other side of the bar for the loo. It was definitely very gender biased — apart from the bar staff, there was one other female in the bar which might not suit everyone. I reckon it’d be a lot more pleasant when there wasn’t a game on, but for a pre-game pint it was perfectly acceptable.

When I lived in Aberdeen, this place was the closest pub to my house, so it became my local. Situated about halfway down King Street — it’s handy for home support coming from the south and west of the city going to Aberdeen games. The pub itself is unremarkable and on match days — unless you are going — it’s best avoided. It is a ‘football’ pub and can get a bit mental for a few hours either side of a game. That said, it’s a neighbourhood boozer that is quite simple, but gives you what you want: nice cold beer, good value, plenty of space, a cracking jukebox, friendly regulars and polite staff. I generally don’t drink Tennents — I think it’s a bit rotten — but at the Pittodrie Bar, it’s my first choice. I’ve never had a finer pint of Scotland’s most popular lager anywhere. On the whole this is a well run, well maintained community pub. For me, any trip back to Aberdeen always has to feature a visit here.
