I have to say that I am surprised by the amount of great reviews for this restaurant. The staff is friendly enough, but the food is mediocre at best. It is too greasy and I would recommend visiting a Chinese restaurant in Oxford over taking the time and cash to visit Parasol.(As an aside, I laughed out loud by the international traveler comment. I’m an international traveler too – and married to a Chinese man – and I have to say this isn’t even on par with the county’s standard Chinese fair.) Sorry, Parasol! thumbs down

I have been a regular weekly customer of the Parasol for over two years and I can say, without fear of contradiction, that it is the only choice for a quality Oriental meal in the most hospitable environment. Abingdon’s finest. Highly recommended!

This only merits 2 stars because of the context. It’s a chinese restaurant in a small town in the UK, so it’s setting the bar low from the start. We went for their all-you-can-eat menu. The appetizers were passable — although it’s hard to go wrong with satay skewers. The duck was OK, a little dry maybe but it was tasty and came with plenty of fresh spring onions and cucumber. The main courses, however, were almost universally unpleasant. The sauces tasted like the worst kind of supermarket sauces and the MSG hangover that night was the worst I’d had in years. If you’ve ever eaten decent chinese food, do yourself a favour. Don’t go to the Parasol.

As the two previous reviews have said, adequate, but nothing special. I would give three stars on the basis of the food alone, but the feeling I had on the Saturday evening I was there that we were being processed in and out in the smallest period of time possible means that I can only really give two.

Ive also eaten a few times at Parasol, being the only chinese ‘Eat In’ restaurant in Abingdon. The food is of good quality, but as the previous review suggests, nothing to get overly excited about or stand out from the crowd. I found the prices a little ambitious, taking into account the food is not the best, but I assume due to very little competition they can charge what they like. Small seating area, and on majority of occasions I have eaten there it has been quiet if not empty. The time we have gone in and its empty, everyone jumps up, and starts rushing around and they press play on their CD player to get the chinese music playing. quite funny. A fair 3 stars out of 5, as I feel they should take more pride in their food and service and not be so content on lack of competition.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times, and also used it as a takeaway. It’s tucked away, so you wouldn’t necessarily notice it. The food is pretty good — nothing spectacular, pretty standard Chinese fare, but well made. They tend to offer a decent discount for takeaway orders. Overall, worth using but nothing to make it stand out from the crowd!
