Airdrie, Airdrie. Little town in North Lanarkshire. Loads of money was spent extending the line to Edinburgh, and most of the money was spent between here and Drumgelloch, with new bridges etc built and widening stations etc. this station is huge. Why Airdrie council don’t take advantage of this in trying to get people from both Airdrie and Edinburgh to come here. The station looks great. Shame, they left the old cabin office. What they were thinking, I’ll never know. Get a new building that doesn’t stand out like a sorethumb and I’ll give you 5 stars.

As far as destinations go, if you are leaving here or heading in the opposite direction, you are heading in the right direction. At Airdrie train station there is not a lot to do or see and as for facilities there is a snack bar on site with limited selection and opening hours. There is an open waiting room that will keep you dry as long as you don’t mind the wind. Outside the station within a few minutes walk there is a taxi rank but at most times there are no taxis, for shops in the area are now limited to betting shops, charity and pound lands. In the summer it may be nice but when winter comes it can be depressing.
