I like the fact that Tate Liverpool Café is as excellent as Tate museums(Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool etc.) Tate Liverpool café doesnt just take the name for granted but worked really hard to maintain Tate’s reputation. We never came to Tate Liverpool café for coffee after the exhibition. I had always liked to visit museum cafes after exhibition and I loved Tate Britain café in London as well. But, it’s Albert Docks and the gallery café and Rubens café are just steps away. It’s been too cold today and we decided to have a hot drink before we left the docks. I was so glad we did. We ordered Warhol’s cupcake, carrot cake, flourless chocolate cake to accompany our green tea, blackcurrent tea, cappuccino and a glass of Shiraz. The tea quality was outstanding and served properly in a tea pot. My green tea was very much like the Oriental Beauty and the flavour was delightful and crispy. The cupcake was light and fresh, balanced by some chocolate mouse treat on top for sweeter tooth. I heard the carrot cake and the chocolate cake were great too. It’s just worth pointing out that it’s high standard even for an independent café. The the quality of them tea and coffee, the way of presentation– coffee art, proper tea pot; fresh and well baked cakes; fine cold beers and wines, with the artsy touch on the label and image, which art enthusiasts won’t resist.

Mum and I went for a day trip to Liverpool last Sunday, on what was the windiest day ever! We made it to Albert Dock around lunchtime and went in the Tate on the basis that it was the first place we came across. I’m really glad we did go in and would choose to go there again based on this visit. Mum and I both had the soup of the day, which was curried cauliflower. Sounds weird but was really tasty. Just the right amount of spice for my taste. The bread was good, and not stale at all(which I’ve had in cafes in the past). Mum had tea and I had some water, so nothing particularly special but was good all the same. There was a lot of choice on the menu and I was nosey at what other people were eating around us. There was a particularly nice looking pasta dish. There were quite a lot of kids around so I think they must have a separate kids menu. They also have high chairs and seemed very accommodating of people with kids, so if you’re going on a family day out this would be a good place to go. All in for two of us, we paid around £10 for lunch, which is great value. As mentioned above, I’d definitely go here for lunch again next time I’m in Liverpool.

In the morning, the café at Tate Liverpool is a lovely place to go for a coffee and a slice of cake. The light pours through the windows and the tourists and visitors are usually too busy snapping photos to venture inside. Go back between 12.00−15.00pm however and it’s a different story altogether. The high ceiling and hordes of tourists means it’s usually packed and noisy. If you can find a table where you can hear yourself think, chances are they’ll have sold out of the soup or sandwich you’re after. The choice and portion size of the hot meals aren’t the most fulfilling either. Take my advice and stick with a hot cup of mud and a slice of sticky pecan pie, lemon drizzle or flourless chocolate cake. You’ll thank me for it later.

The Tate Gallery itself hosts a gorgeous collection of artwork and has a nice little café on the ground floor where you can sit back and relax whilst you sip a warm mug of coffee and watch passers by. There is a wonderful selection of snacks and small dishes to take your fancy such as various sandwiches, salads and luscious cakes although the menu can vary between seasons. You can guarantee great food at great prices with a stunning spectacle of the Albert Dock. This is the perfect place to enjoy yourself with family and friends — young and old alike on a memorable trip to the Tate.

Just what I needed after touring the Tate LIverpool, a bit of nosh. Great selection of good products, helpful staff, fair prices. What’s not to like? Enjoy!
