Bier Cell is fantastic little beer shop just around the back of Altrincham’s traditional market. I popped in while in town for the football and was massively impressed with their selection. In fact upon entering the girl on the counter apologised for the lack of stock due to the Christmas rush — if this was a poor selection then I’m a monkey’s uncle and it would put many other off licences to shame. One thing that was noticeable was that they were very heavy on traditional Belgian beers and while a large part of the shop was dedicated to European imports, there was still plenty of room for a good selection of local craft breweries. I was particularly impressed to see them stocking real rarities and Brewdog was well served. Most of these beers were ones that I had only ever seen on the BD website before and they even stocked this years prototype beers which again was pretty cool for a high street store to be doing. Prices as well were pretty reasonable with only maybe a small mark up on what I’d normally expect to pay. This isn’t a problem when you find a great independent business who have obviously gone to the effort to make their shop something special. On top of these beers, they also sell quite a few«beery gift packs» — the type where you get a glass with a bottle of something rare making this place perfect to pick up a present for those who are no nonsense hop fiends! Overall if you want good beer then go and check them out. Pi is just across the road if you want to then go and enjoy a beer out of the bar and a heartwarming pie for lunch or dinner!
