The best pub in the Hale /Altrincham area by miles. That’s if you like a proper English pub! Its a Robinson’s house having said that you won’t find a better pint of Guinness anywhere!!? Bitter drinkers always have the Unicorn option but the Dizzy Blonde is always on tap and would be my preference. A busy pub almost every session of the week, frequented by locals but outsiders tolerated even Liverpool fans(landlord Alan supports Everton!?). I’ve been drinking in there for 15 years and if there is a jukebox I’ve never seen it! Gets a little busy on match days(Smokers even have an outside Telly!!) and as a supporter of the Mighty Blues it would be fair to say the pub leans towards the Red side of Trafford… The pub runs a great Golf Society with over 60 members and arranges 8 outings throughout the summer! Ask for Julian(Hon Sec /Pres) or leave your name and number behind the bar for him if you would like more info /want to join! Can’t comment on the Food as ‘eatin is cheatin’ … but they do a decent pork pie!

Hale is full of high end businesses and eateries and if you’re looking for a fancy restaurant then you have a good selection to choose from. If however you just want to grab a quick pub lunch there doesn’t seem to be the same choice available. The Railway is certainly your more bog standard local pub, complete with patterned carpets and a menu from the 80s. If you want to hang out at the bar with the locals and while away a few hours with a pint this might be a good place to go, but if you want a nice pub to quickly grab some hearty pub-grub then look elsewhere!
