There must be two ‘Café Bar’ places in the airport as the photos attached to this one don’t look like the one I was just in, also the reviewer mentions running to the gate and this being handy, I think this one is out on the pier where the higher number gates are. I was in the ‘Café Bar’ in the arrivals hall as I was picking up and sadly not at the airport to go anywhere nice. Doesn’t matter though, as I love being in airports anyway and like soaking up the travel excitement vicariously(people watching to put it bluntly). With this and my relatives slight delay, I decided to have breakfast as a bit of a treat for making my way up the motorway through huge(for NI) amounts of snow. The prices were not clearly listed but being tired I never thought much of it, so when I ordered a muffin with scrambled egg and bacon and a coffee(Americano) I was more than a little surprised to see this re-heated breakfast ensemble arrive with a bill for £6.90. Hitting me like a truck came the reality that I had just ordered food in an airport… DOH!!! The staff were OK, 2 ladies on, one was friendly enough but not overly enthused to be there and the other a little abrupt. So the service could be a little warmer. Anyway I took it to my seat and started the aforementioned people watching. The seating area was OK, but the arrivals area of the airport isn’t its most attractive feature so its not the nicest place to sit. The muffin itself was quite dry and a bit tasteless with only a small amount of bacon, the coffee, it was pretty middle of the road. This place would get away with being described as ‘a little below average’ if it was somewhere else and so charged reasonable prices, but alas it isn’t. Charging far too much for barely average food may be quite a standard practice in airports the world over, but hey, we don’t have to like it!

We know we’ve all done it… you see your gate come up on the screen and before you know it you’ve bolted down to the gate and then have a long wait minus food and drink. Some clever soul has put this little café down beside the gates in the International airport. If your gate number is 20+ then you can potter down with the knowledge that there is drink and the possibility of a snack down here. There’s a small list of coffees/teas and some bottled beers and ciders at the usual slightly over the top airport prices. A small fridge has got bottles of water and some lonely looking sandwiches should you forget to grab something for the flight. The service was good and there was a nice seating area opposite. Pros: Handy and nice seating area Cons: Airport prices.
