Frump in the Stump

The «Frump in the Stump» is the gatekeeper to Corrog Wood, «The Frump as it is affectionately known by locals is actually a dryad. A Dryad? I hear you ask! Let me explain, A dryad is a tree in Greek mythology, This tree keeps a watchful eye out for the forest and all who enter it. I found this «Dryad» or simple tree carving quite creepy and I am sure It would scare children, the story goes that a woman jumped into the tree to save it from being cut down. She must have been with Green Peace because that’s just mad.
The woods itself is equally mythical with a kissing gate and a 14 acre Forest park. The stand out part for me was the views from top of the forest. It is a particularly scenic area of North Down and you can capture views over Strangford Lough that are outstanding.
The Frump in the Stump is sure to capture plenty of imaginations, I even caught her winking at me as I passed, I think she was motioning towards the kissing gate.
All in all «The Frump» is a thing of beauty and it seems to lure you into the scenic Corrog Woods.
