Sunday evening in Hertfordshire — it is amazing how early ALL the kitchens close!!! Crazy. We had always wanted to try this simple place and it was the last kitchen open in the county as far as we could tell (all the pubs were closed long before 8, as was the Hermitage Rd in Hitchin as was our hotel (The George). Balti Spice is a simple eat-​in (bring your own booze — I did!) or carry-​out Indian restaurant. That said the food was good, flavorful and served well — and the manager is a really nice guy. Dinner for two for 20 pounds (or starve in the backwoods of Hertfordshire :()
