Nice cosy pub near the canal path on the outskirts of Bath. Small selection of well kept beers. Haven’t tried food yet, but have heard its good. Best in summer when you can sit outside in large garden. Will go again!

There’s a nice beer garden, near the river, which is great in the summer. Inside, it’s homely and friendly with a nice atmosphere. I have had food here which has always been nice.

I stumbled upon this pub while on a popular cycle path from Bristol to Bath. Situated on the outskirts of Bath right next to the river, it is a very picturesque area and as a result the Dolphin is very popular with walkers and cyclists. We stopped here for a well-deserved pint and late lunch and decided to sit in the large beer garden and take in the views of the river. There was plenty of room for bikes, dogs and children and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Indoors it was quite dark, with a traditional wooden bar and dodgy patterned carpets and painted walls. We ordered some fish and chips and scampi and chips which were both tasty but my partner commented that his scampi was a little overdone and tasted like pork scratchings — I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not but he seemed to like it! My fish was good but I get the impression that most of the food here is frozen as it definitely didn’t look freshly battered. Our drinks were relatively cheap and I would definitely recommend trying this pub if you’re out walking or cycling in the nearby area.

The Dolphin is one of those pubs that you only really go to when it is a sunny day, due to it having a large beer garden which is situated right on the riverside — so I have no real idea of what it is like inside. I’m sure it has plenty of local regulars, but the entry from the street is not all that attractive, the Dolphin really comes into its own in the summer when it is accessed via the garden, from the path that runs alongside the canal. The beer garden has a nice children’s play area, and also a large cage(like an aviary) of little animals — I think they are chipmunks — which usually entertains little ones.
