Ahh yes the Pump Room :) What a fun experience! High tea in the UK. Quite fancy with live musicians playing classical music, beautiful china and table settings, and tasty dessert treats. My sister and I had a lot of fun with this experience. The location is great because its right off of a major courtyard in the city.

I had high afternoon tea at the pump rooms. I must say I was very disappointed. The food wasn’t anything great. The ambience on the other hand was. The pump rooms are beautifuly decorated! You get a, feel on how it was back when Jane Austen lived in Bath. Really beautiful. I would recommend going here for tea and scones.

«Just Go In And Do It! Spend a Little Money — It’s Worth It!» This is a must-do after you see the Roman Baths. Heck, you’re in Bath, for heaven’s sake! Just do it! Spend the money and do it because how many times are you going to be able to do this here! We’re only here once. This is the conversation my boyfriend and I had as we debated outside whether or not to go in. It was pricey for us, so I just ordered tea and I think he had a crumpet of some kind, or pastry and coffee. You’re there for the experience, or at least we were. The trio of musicians playing on the little stage was beautiful, the interior was beautiful, the wait staff was beautiful, and you’re having an elegant time in a beautiful setting. Totally worth it. Just sit down and enjoy your short time there. And drink the Bath water!

This was during our trip to Stonehenge and Bath and I really wanted to have afternoon tea, so we decided on Pump Room since it’s pretty famous. We got there and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table even though it didn’t seem that busy. We sat down and our waiter comes over to say hello — he did not smile at us ONCE throughout our entire meal. I got the traditional afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco and my boyfriend ordered the club sandwich. Everything was okay — nothing spectacular. The most memorable part of the entire meal was being ignored by our waiter the whole time, even when we wanted to ask for the check. He took so long to even come to our table to charge our credit card, another waitress had to come over to us as we had to make it back to our tour bus. I wouldn’t recommend this place — I’m sure there are other places that have better service and better food.

My first high tea experience in the UK! The Pump Room wasn’t included in an article I read listing the 25 best tea rooms in the UK, but Unilocal reviews and several family members who are familiar with the British tea experience highly recommended it. I’m glad I listened because finishing our tour of the Roman Baths with high tea on site was superb! My husband and I chose the afternoon tea package for £22 per person which included one of each of the following: 3 types of sandwiches, salmon pâté, bruschetta, scones(2 each), 5 different desserts, and hot tea or coffee. Honestly, everything we tasted was delicious even though I was skeptical when I read some of the ingredients on the menu. We both chose hot tea that was The service had been excellent until we were finished and waiting for our bill and hoping anxiously for our server to see us stretching our necks to get his attention. We saw him look our way several times but still didn’t come to ask what we needed. Finally, another server caught on and helped us finalize the bill and package up the desserts(as the rest of the food was plentiful). The setting itself is gorgeous with high ceilings, live piano music for part of our time there, and as I mentioned being on the site of the historic Roman Baths. Overall, I wouldn’t trade the experience of dining here for the world as it was a great memory to make and was well worth the price. Definitely do the Roman Baths tour and dine here before or after, and ask about the special package deal if you choose to do the Thermae Spa bath/pool experience as well!

The food was ok, live piano, it is always busy and you always have to wait to have a table therefore service is a little bit slow, staff has to work really hard so they are scatty due to tiredness I think ?! All and all it was ok experience.

Husband and I went to the Pump Room for tea yesterday after touring the Roman Baths. We had a reservation for 2:30 but they seated us early(at 2) and it wasn’t too busy at that time. The first waitress we had was slightly rude, she seemed offended that we only wanted to order 2 pots of tea and 1 order of scones, as we weren’t too hungry and were also trying to keep to a budget and the £22 per person for the full service tea was too much for us. The second waiter we had was very nice as was the other staff person who cleared our table. The scones and tea were delicious! I think it was a little overpriced for what you get but then again it is a big tourist attraction — I admit I mostly wanted to go there for the appeal(I’m a big Regency era fan). A good overall experience though! Recommended for a nice afternoon treat for those who are history buffs.

FINALLY! I had tea in the Pump Room! I’m a huge Jane Austen fan and this was a must see while I was in Bath. We showed up at around 3pm on a Monday for afternoon tea. I thought we’d be queued up and have to wait but we walked right up and were immediately shown to a table in front of the piano player. Gotta love off season! Our server greeted us quickly and took our order — afternoon tea with two different types of teas(Earl Grey for me and a fruity one for hubs) with their standard tea snack setup — there was a macaroon, strawberry cheesecake tart, scones with clotted cream and jam, tea sandwiches, some chocolate cake and some cookies. Yum yum yum. Meanwhile I also ordered a chicken club sandwich and it was SO delicious. I didn’t intend to eat all of it but I scarfed it down like it might run off my plate. Haha. Our food was out quickly, everything tasted great, the tea was delicious and I was a pretty happy girl by the end of the meal. No complaints at all here.

I have been here twice and I really like the Pump Room for tea. Actually, I don’t even drink tea and I still like it. I like the fancy trays of sandwiches and desserts, I like the piano music, and I like the fountain where they hand out that water from the Roman Bath, which is supposed to be a miracle cure from before the age of modern medicine. I drank it once. It didn’t cure anything as far as I could tell, and it wasn’t the best water I’ve ever tasted. It was similar, but not as bad, as the water at the forest preserves and state parks. We used to call it «egg water». I think it’s sulfur that gives it that odd taste. Even though it is not good water it is served from a very fancy looking fountain. The last time I was here the server was a big strange. Asking about my English heritage and thinking it was hysterically funny my grandfather was from a particular small northern town«because that’s a poor little town and no one ever leaves, HAHAHA! Everyone around there is very pro-UK.» Well, obviously, someone did leave.(My impression was always because there was a lack of jobs available at the time, but I guess there aren’t that many people interested in «recent» history.) We were there in the summer and this server seemed very young to me. Anyway, the food was very good.

We stopped here to warm up and have the afternoon tea service after taking the free city tour. It was lovely. My husband and I shared a pot of the pump room blend which was delicious. We then shared scones and sandwiches. It was just what we needed to recharge and venture back out into the cold drizzle.

So we had tea here after touring the Roman Bath. It was my 1st time having afternoon tea in England so I was looking forward to it. My cousin, who is English, says this place is pretty grand. We settled on 2 regular English teas and 2 champagne teas, reasoning we’ll sample both options. So the ambiance & décor is fancy schmancy with the servers dressing semi-formal and proper. Our server was awfully friendly and had a quick wit about her. The food was good. I discovered that the Brits take their scones with jam & clotted cream, which is damn delicious. I was told to slather a glob of that stuff on my scones to which I said, «this can’t be good for my arteries.» But alas, I’m on vacation so to hell with caution.

We decided to splurge for the tea tray, knowing it was expensive, but was surprised at how little it included when it arrived. Enjoyed the ambience, especially the piano player. Don’t come at the end of tea time… they were turning over the dining room while we were trying to enjoy our tea.

The Pump room is the afternoon high tea place in bath that is located next-door to the popular roman bath. They are connected and you can actually see the roman bath in the windows facing the inside of the building. The pump room is popular with tourists and locals it seems so expect a wait/turned down if you didnt make a reservation. It is very traditional afternoon tea from the layout with the traditional furniture and classical music coming from the string instrument and piano to the food selections such as scones, and tea sandwiches. the place overall though is beautiful. the menu is simple but I recommend getting one of the sets located at the top of the menu. I got the one with smoke salmon whichever one that was lol. It basically comes with a tea of your choice(they give you a tea menu), champagne, your main dish, and your desserts. The food was so-so, I’ve had better at other high tea places around the world. I gotta say though the ice cream is pretty darn good. Service was so-so because it was slow and my waiter laid out my silverware wrong –_– lol. Overall, I had a good time but I think one time here is good enough for me. If you have never been I def suggest going once. This is a place more for elderly people to go for high tea, but for my generation, we might prefer somewhere in london more.

I’ve been to the pump room about 4 or 5 times, and I have to say that the experience has always been enjoyable, if not a bit touristy. It is a lovely spot for tea, and it should be tried at least once in your life, for the décor alone would make Jane Austin proud. However, my favorite thing to do is purchase a glass of warm water from the baths an 18th century character who always claims imbibing the water is good for your health. I don’t know about its legendary health benefits. It taste pretty nasty, but hey still alive and kicking so maybe there is something to it. In any event, don’t look for it to be bottled and distributed in your local 7 – 11 anytime soon.

We were told that breakfast or afternoon tea at the Pump Room is a must on a visit to Bath. We had to make reservations for the next day since they were fully-booked. I was looking forward to the experience after all the hype, but was unfortunately disappointed. The food did not live up to my expectations at all. The service was also so-so. I understand it was the holiday season, but nothing was worth the price we were paying. I’m being generous — the stars go to the elegant architecture and the classical music trio serenading us, not the food or the service.

We went here for breakfast after arriving on a train from London. I wanted to do afternoon tea, but that wasn’t going to work as we had an afternoon tour to Stonehenge and Lacock. I had two fruit scones and some jam and my husband had two warm mature cheddar cheese and chive scones. Both scones were good, but the cheese & chive ones were the best! Husband had a coffee and I had a pump room sunrise. It was refreshing and went perfectly with my scones! Try one with your breakfast. The room was nicely decorated and we even had a live music trio serenading us. It was a lovely experience and I recommend it for a nice start to your day in bath.

I was worried that this would be a tourist trap but it’s totally not. I enjoyed having afternoon tea here while visiting the city of Bath. Their afternoon tea is pricey but not overly expensive. I think the ambiance and service makes up for it. I ordered scones and Jasmine tea, their clotted cream and strawberry jam that accompanies the scone was addicting and absolutely delicious! Well worth a visit!

The Pump Room would attract business even if they served people dog food since people eat here because they’re tourists, because they read about the Pump Room in an old novel, because the room is beautiful. I doubt locals say«let’s eat at the Pump Room because they have the best food or most creative cuisine.» Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised that the food wasn’t bad. In fact, our pastries were pretty good(the traditional bath bun was only ok) as were the cold refreshing drinks. The room is beautiful and a musical trio(piano, violin, and cello) performed on the stage while we were there. The Bath spa water was interesting tasting and not as bad as I thought it might be.

If you had only one chance to experience the traditional(albeit stereotypical) British afternoon tea, this would be IT. Well worth the 17 pounds for full tea set of finger sandwiches, scones, and petit fours. I didn’t go there expecting superb pastries or sandwiches, but really for the experience. Nothing beats sipping tea with a raised pinkie, while swaying to the background string quartet in such a posh surrounding. The clotted cream is exceptional, easily something to die for or from.
