A few years back Bastille was my favourite French restaurant in Belfast. After a couple of times it really declined for both my friends and I. Around summer 2015 we decided to give it another go as there was a groupon deal. We were both pleasantly surprised that it had got its mojo back. Maybe a different chef. I’ve been around 5 times since and each time it’s been very good. I usually opt with venison, duck or steak whereas my friends more of a fish lover. Between us we have had most of their mains and desserts(crème brûlée is top notch) and have been pleased. The staff are good, a little slow even when not busy but maybe it’s the relaxed French feel they want. The décor is like a little French café, unfortunately I find the chairs seriously uncomfortable so that’s my 4 star rating. Welcome back Bastille :))

Bastille, on the Lisburn Rd is the most authentic French restaurant in Belfast. Excellent selection of wines which I believe are personally chosen and imported. They have a great lunch menu. Usually on a Thursday it is steak and a glass of wine for £8.50. Usually a quiet spot and the service is excellent

La Bastille is nice. However in my opinion it’s good, not great. There are better and cheaper French restaurants in Belfast. My last visit, which was a quite a few months ago, was average overall, in terms of both food and service. I had a starter of French Onion soup and a main of boeuf bourguignon. Similarly my dining companions liked their meals but were not overly enthused. I’d heard great reviews about this restaurant and had been looking forward to trying it, but it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. I’ve tried it twice by now and don’t think I’ll bother returning. Ah well, close but no cigar…

The perfect Sunday! A beautiful meal with fantastic service from Olivia. Meal for 5 with a bottle of wine for less than £115. The crème de Brule is amazing

The food is unbelievable and they have some great lunch time deals. Hard to go wrong with the bavette steak, chips, mushrooms and red wine jus. The staff are very knowledgable about their wines and will guide you through the extensive selection.

Great place for Sunday lunch and I have always had a great meal here. The Sunday menu is great and 2 starters, 2 mains, dessert and a bottle of wine was only £55. The standard was very high as always so the price was very reasonable. The staff are just lovely and the restaurant itself was spotless and a really nice atmosphere. I’m definitely going to go to one of their Love Food Love Wine nights next time. Always a winner!

How I love French food. I once spent a month driving round France with my two best friends in a 1973 Vauxhall Viva, starting on the Mediterranean coast and making our way to Calais via the Dordogne valley, Tours and Paris amongst other places. I have very fond memories of flavoursome bread, powerful cheese, fish soups and mussels in white wine, a lot of weird, weird food otherwise, ridiculously cheap wine and trying to explain to mechanics, in halting French, that there was smoke coming out of our car(and we didn’t know why) in what seemed like every town we came to. Anyway, naturally enough my interest in French food remains, and so I was very keen to try Bastille when it opened recently. It definitely had a few teething problems not long after it opened — one particular episode even made all the local papers. But I’m very thankful that that didn’t deter me. It’s an unusual setting — under pavement level, but really gorgeous inside. The service was excellent. I had fantastic crab ravioli with onion soubise, then beef bourgignon, mostly to compare to my own. I’ve been making it for years(I defy anyone to name me better comfort food) but it wasn’t a patch on Bastille’s. Dessert was Man Of The Match, though… a Valrhona chocolate fondant. It took half an hour to come out — the waiter told me that the first two had collapsed — but by jaysis, it was amazing when I got it. Incredibly rich and velvety and I had a bit of a lump in my throat. It was that good. It amazes me that there are so few French restaurants in Belfast when French food is as delectable as Bastille’s.

Bastille is a very trendy restaurant on the Lisburn Road. I went here for a little romantic evening with my girlfriend and it certainly was that! The atmosphere is fantastic, really personal and romantic. The food really does make it a perfect evening. I got chicken, which was in the nicest sauce I think I’ve ever had(well, apart from Sphinx sauce…). Most of the mains were under £20 which made it great value for the quality and the great environment to enjoy it in!

Bastille s a gorgeous French Restaurant on the trendy Lisburn Road. Its a great place to go for a romantic night out if you fancy a change from the norm. The menu, as expected, is divine! You can be adventurous and really french it up or just enjoy some of the other dishes. We got a bottle of the house white and it was really great(I seem to do this more often than not.) and decided to go straight for the mains. I chose the lamb and my partner went for the monk fish. The food was really fancy and the different flavours just really complemented each other! The portions were good too and we didn’t go away hungry as is often the case in many upmarket restaurants. We had dessert too, couldn’t resist as we were in a nice place. I chose the chocolate fondant and my partner got the lemon cherry mousse. Both were beyond awesome! The prices are high but it is certainly worth it. A main would set you back between £15-£17 and desserts around £5-£6. Well worth it and I will certainly be coming back!

I visited this gorgeous French restaurant some few months ago with my boyfriend for a dinner date. Now I know there aren’t many French restaurants in Belfast but we faniced something different and I’d heard great reviews about this place.(I have a particularly hard to please aunt who ranted and raved about it, so I knew it was bound to be good.) We wanted to see for ourselves though. So off we trot to the über trendy Lisburn Road and down the flight of stairs to the quirky basement that is the restaurant Bastille. My aunt was right. Upon our entrance we were greated and shown to our window seat. Quickly offered a drink, we sampled the most delicious French wine(the name escapes me but it was their House white) and then after a lot of deliberation and enquiries with the waiter we decided on our food. For starter I had frogs legs(!) breaded and served with a garlic dip(they were gorgeous in case you’re wondering) and the better half had the chicken liver parfait with brioche and chutney. Our mains consisted of the freshly caught seabream and the slow roasted pork belly. Then for dessert we shared a crème brûlée(how sweet) and I cannot even begin to describe how good it was. Our whole visit we were treated to great service, the African waiter didn’t even mind that we kept calling him Australian(oops!) he was very knowledgeable about the food they offered(we really grilled him about our choices!) I was really impressed. Our bill came to a very reasonable price for such excellent food. I will definitely be back here. Top notch restaurant.
