The Beaten Docket is a place that I wouldn’t make a point of going to on a night out. I’ve been here a few times and like many of the other reviewers, its been because I was waiting on someone or something. The place has a kind of locals only feel. I think the people who go here are more loyal to it due to the fact that the Crown, one of Belfast’s most popular bars is just across the little side street. With such tough competition, it can be forgiven for not trying to hard to out do its far superior, national trust backed rival. There’s a taxi depot that runs just along the road beside it, and I think many of these guys keep it afloat.

Had to laugh when I read the other reviews, as they mirror my feelings quite well. We came into the Beaten Docket while Christmas Shopping last year, we had gone at night and had had a number of drinks on our travels, and as such, had chosen to leave our cars at home. Not being one who is terribly good at keeping on top of train times, we duly landed round at Great Vic St Station, only to find we had a considerable wait for the next train. At that time in the evening, there is little by way of entertainment at the station, so we decided to make the short trip across the road to the nearest pub, which was the Beaten Docket. It is quite spacious and comfy inside, and the staff were extremely friendly. They had a bouncer on the door, who greeted us and informed us that it would be quiet(he wasnt wrong) We happily got a drink, which were reasonably priced, and sat and waited until it was nearly time for our train. Quite an unexceptional visit, but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back in the same situation.

Probably not a pub that would be considered one of the more popular pubs in Belfast. It’s nicely laid out inside, with a big long bar greeting you as you go in. On the few occasions I’ve been in this pub, I’ve found it to be a bit of a strange place with a bit of a cliquey feel to it — not that there have been that many people in it when I’ve been in. I’ve just never found it to be a particularly inviting bar. If you read the reviews you’ll see that the likes of the Crown, and Robinson’s, which are just facing it, are much more popular. Pretty sure it’s called the Beaten Docket due to it being beside, and facing, two bookmakers/betting shops.

The Beaten Docket is another of my «waiting for the train/bus» pubs. it’s a good place to stop in for a pint if you’re waiting for a connection at Victoria Street. I guess it’s called The Beaten Docket because a lot of lawyer types go there. Or used to go there. I didn’t see to many lawyers when I was inside though. Unless maybe they’re in disguise. There’s a downstairs with a full, room length bar and an upstairs function room with a smaller bar. This floor is a great place to sit and look out over the bustle on Victoria street if you’re in a people watching mood.

This bar is situated across from the Europa and is handy to have a before or after you go show at the Grand Opera House which is also across from the Beaten Docket. Upstairs can be hired for functions.
